The Detroit Pistons have fired coach Mo Cheeks, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

Well, at least he got more games than Rob Chudzinski.

Lionel Hollins or George Karl please. I don't think either are amazing, but both are good coaches and provide experience and a respectable track record.

Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted that the frontrunner for interim coach would likely be John Loyer, although no real indication has been given one way or the other as such. CBS has a tweet from Brandon Jennings which would make one think that the news did not get all the way around the locker room ahead of time either, so some folks were taken aback.

EDIT: Submitted without comment...

One has to wonder if Cheeks would still have his job had the pistons drafted Trey or MCW. In that case they could have traded Brandon Knight for a SG that's capable of averaging more than KCP's 7 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist per game.

...Yeah I'm thinking Dumars is more to blame for the Pistons' woes than Cheeks.

Doesn't surprise me.  Feels like Joe is on the hotseat as well.  Cheeks hasn't been able to get this team to gel, and considering that was supposed to be his strong suit I'm not surprised he was on the outs.

Everyone besides Joey D saw this coming as soon as the hire was made. Joey, we'll always have the bad boys and your early front office days when you turned the Pistons around, but you need to get the hell out of Detroit now.

Even when considering the roster logjams and positional mismatches and court spacing issues, I was expecting the talent on the roster to carry us to a 4 or 5 seed.  If we're the ninth seed despite having a healthy squad, that falls squarely on the head coach.

Wow...I could have told you it was stupid to hire him in the first place. Lawrence Frank? Mo Cheeks? Why do you keep hiring these failed coaches that weren't that great to begin wtih.

Is a joke. You have roughly 30 teams (?) and you can make the playoffs with a losing record easily. Yet, being mediocre is worse than being bad. In the NFL, the worst team didn't have to wish on a ping pong ball of odds to get better players. In the NBA, half of the teams are in tank mode and don't even hide it just for the chance to get one of the 3 players a year that can make you better. Meanwhile, once in as a player or coach, you have zero incentive to try as you WILL get picked up (even if to literally never play all year for millions of dollars) by someone. Fab5 for life and all but Howard is still in the NBA, ffs. lol. The league tosses out 6 teams a year worth watching due to its own design. Throw in the fad of "buddy up" teams and there is even less talent to go around. How could anyone give a shit about the NBA? Detroit will be good again in a decade.....then get old....then suck again for a decade......then get lucky....then get young.....then get good.....then get old.....and so on. Key word there being "lucky". Not lucky? Throw on another decade of mediocre basketball, just like half the league at any given time.
