OT: Pistons Back in Playoffs For First Time Since 2009
Good news for us Detroit fans. The Pistons beat the Wizards to quality for the playoffs for the first time since 2009.
Reggie Jackson sure had himself a game. 39 points and 9 assists. Pistons won 112-99.
I swore off the NBA back in the mid-2000s but this Pistons team has me more excited about them then usual! Good for them.

That was a bad time to swear off the Pistons

This is Reggies team. I'm glad we paid him
I'll admit I was a lil skeptical about the amount of money Detroit gave him. he has a few things he needs to work on but this is his 1st year as a full time starter, as time goes on he'll learn the in and outs about running the team. Im excited about the future of the Pistons they just need to lock up Drummond at season end.

The amount was never going to be a problem. With the cap going up, his contract is going to look like amazing business in a couple years. The national media's disdain for the deal was laughable

With Enes Kanter getting the max I'm surprised some NBA team didn't throw some extra loot my way since they obviously have money to blow

I just didn't believe his skill level justified that much money, like I said I was wrong.

Good Day. Tigers also won to start the year 3-0
Love Reggie. Love this team. Don't love Andre sulking on the bench at the end of the game.

It's been noticeable lately, hasn't it?

If he could make a fucking free throw, he could play most of the 4th quarter. It's his own damn fault.
If his free throw shooting was any worse, the ball would end up going behind him.
It's my opinion the Pistons need to stop meekly taking him out of games when the other team goes into hack mode. The Bad Boys wouldn't have put up with this shit. Dennis Rodman was a poor FT shooter too and if other teams had repeatedly hacked him, Laimbeer would've turned up the Laimbeer to 11.
No Pistons team ever won a title that wasn't nasty and intimidating as hell. If the opponents want to play fouly-foul, then I say start giving it back in spades.
Drummond needs to try shooting free throws underhand. Seriously. Some guys just can't shoot them overhand. It's worth a shot.
Let's go Stones!
I was a huge fan of the Shaq and Kobe Lakers teams. Rooted for them over Chauncey, Big Ben, Rip, all those guys. I was young and dumb and now full of regret.
Forget that. DEEEEETROOIT BAAASKETBALLL
Same! And I held a grudge over the Melo situation, so I was too busy hating to enjoy a great team. All in for Detroit basketball now though.

You held a grudge when the won a title despite that move?

Yes. Grew up 10 minutes away from the Palace and still couldn't find it in my heart to forgive them

Talk about being on the wrong side of history...
As a Bulls fan thank you for putting this miserable season to rest for us.

Dre and Reggie are non negotiables but everyone else is fair game to trade IMO. It's great we made the playoffs but we aren't going to get far without at least one more All-Star player. We would be in great shape if Reggie is our 3rd best player and Dre is 3b.
Wheel and deal, Stan.
No way in hell will Dre be a 3b player, he hasn't even came close to his full potential yet, the kids only been playing basketball for like 6 years.

hence the "great shape" part.
He can rebound and block shots but he can't shoot FTs so he's a major liability at the end of games. 39% is not good.
He has developed an OK hook and back to the basket game but relies heavily on lobs to get baskets.
There's not a team in the NBA were Dre would be the 4th best player on the team.

Warriors and Thunder.
He would be unplayable at the end of games for this current Spurs team.
edit: He's unplayable at the end of games for any team that wants to win games.
Durant, Westbrook, and who?
Curry and who?
Leonard and who?
Just like a the pie % besides those 4 no one else on their team has a higher pie rating then Dre

KD, Russ, Ibaka.
Steph, Klay, Draymond.
Khawi, Aldridge, and honestly, Duncan is more valuable to the Spurs than Dre would be. An organization like that would never pay for a guy that doesn't have basketball skills.
He's better than Ibaka. I could argue Dre over Klay or Draymond especially since Steph's shooting opens the floors in ways they'd never experience elsewhere. And he's better than Duncan at this point, it's hard to watch Duncan play some nights. He just doesn't have it anymore.

Anyone that doesn't have guard skills is basically unplayable for GS. Andre would start and get huge minutes everywhere else. You're comparing his skills to players who are completely different. There is still a place for a rebounding and dunking machine in this league despite what GS has done.
Rebounding, dunking, blocking shots, playing good team defense are no longer bball skills? Yes, he is terrible at free throws, that doesn't invalidate his worth as a tier 2 NBA player and tier 1 big man.
thats it. Drummond is no worse than 5th in that group.
Dude has been a great pickup. If he continues to progress like he has, he could be that 3rd fringe All-Star player to go with Mr. October and Drummond.
Honestly, I'm hoping that the Pistons can use their mid-first round pick to spend on Caris. Stash him away for a year to let him heal and he could present another matchup nightmare on this team.
Tobias can play, no doubt. But if it means we can package him and/or someone else for an All-Star, you have to do it.
Inge was an all-star.
Bring back Brandon Inge!!
of the first or the beginning of the 2nd for Caris, but I'm not sure the Pistons can risk a pick in the 18-20 range on a guy they aren't positive can stay healthy. Rather go for one of Marquese Chriss, Wade Baldwin, Demetrius Jackson or Thon Maker.
Hell no on thon "thin man" maker. That tiny human will get injured. His body is simply way to small. These giant men in the NBA will abuse him.
but a lot of good prospects have had a build similar to him. Amir Johnson was 6'10, 205 coming out of HS. Clint Capela at 6'11, 220, Porzingis at 7'3, 230. Then you've got Maker at 7'0, 220. Sure, Maker needs to put some weight on, but I don't think he's built all that different than Johnson, Capela or even Skal Labissiere.
I would be shocked if maker is 220. Let's see what he weighs in at the combine.
He weighed in at 218 at the 2015 Hoop Summit and 219 at another camp in 2015. I'd be shocked if he lost weight in the last 12 months.
I guess I just have to remember he is 7'ft. But it's not just the number of his weight, look at his body style, ectomorph. The least desrible body type, he will never pack on mass. To be a good player he would basically have to be KD, and good luck with that.
Thon Maker makes Keon Clark look like a bodybuilder.
If Dre was your 4th best player, you probably have one of the best teams of all time. If that's what you want for the Pistons, you're asking an impossible task of SVG.
He has oodles of potential still to be found and he's made great strides on the offensive side of the court. Needs to shore up his defense and be more consistent. If he just becomes a 50% FT shooter, he will be able to stay on the court longer. And I think it's possible because his stroke is pretty solid. Mental thing right now IMO.
Core of the Pistons are all 26 or under. So they have yet to hit their strides. Depending on the offseason, I think we could see a big jump forward for them next year.
New York sports fan at heart, since I was a young lad (Giants, Knicks, Rangers, Yankees). But as a Metro-Detroiter, I'll always root for my hometown teams as well. Go Pistons!
NYR or DRW?
Always root for my NY teams over my DET teams. But in this case I'll root for the Wings, gotta get in the playoffs!
Glad to meet a fellow New York fan. Giants, Knicks, Rangers and Yanks too.
