Seriously we couldn't score a run off JASON FREAKING GRILLI. We deserve to lose this game. I just want someone to score so I can go to bed. And McCann is going to the DL which sucks balls. So basically this game is pissing me off.
To be clear we couldn't get a single run in 3 innings against him, despite having RISP each inning.
It's funny to watch people talk to them selves on a blog!!!
Jason Grilli is still in the league? Who knew?
Well I didn't either until tonight's game. I haven't gotten that angry over a non-Michigan sporting event since the Brooks Conrad meltdown in the NLDS the day after the MSU footall game last year.
on wearing out your entire bullpen for an elusive victory vs. the mighty Pittsburgh Pirates.
Dude, the Pirates are winning the NL Central (or at least they were a few days ago), so they aren't the pushover that hasn't been to the playoffs for 20 years. I'm pretty happy for their fans even if they are spoiled with the Steelers and Penguins of late.
I can't ever remember a Bucs winning season...it's been too long!
games like this are brutal on a pitching staff. Hopefully Jurrjens can pitch deep into the game tomorrow... can't think of a better member of that rotation for the task at hand.
And I can remember walking down the ramp at Turner Field by the players parking lot, and fans wondering which car was Conrad's so they could throw bottles/garbage/etc. at it.
I have never seen worse fielding than in that game.
Ready for this to end...I need to go to bed. I am afraid that the little girl yelling "lets go pirates!" over and over is going to haunt my dreams tonight.
Does anyone know what channel it is on? If it is on TV in southwest Michigan
As a die hard Braves fan, I gotta say that is the last way I want to win a game.....that call was simply terrible.
Don't even need to look at the play to see he was out, just look at the reactions after the tag and you know for sure he was out by far.
Video of the blown call (can't get it to embed)

That call was worse than the Gallaraga 28-out "perfect" game call. It's terrible that the Pirates lost that game that way.
I haven't seen it, but as a Tigers fan, I doubt it was worse.
EDIT: Never mind. It was one of the worse calls I ever saw.
This is by far the worst call I have ever seen in my 35 years of watching baseball. It looks a lot like the ump simply wanted the game to be over so he called him safe. From every angle and at every speed the player was out by 3 steps....That is ridiculous.
The ump wanted an excuse to end the game and go home and he found one. He was also clever enough to screw the visiting team so that he would get out of the stadium without risk to life and limb.
Did the catcher really tag him? The first few replays I saw convinced me that this was the worst call ever. Then, when I saw the camera angle essentially taken from the Braves dugout area, it appeared that the catcher swept his mitt across the path of the runner without tagging him.
I guess I'd have to look at the other angles (and I'm watching these replays with sound off because others are sleeping here), but I am thinking that the umpire might not have been a total idiot, even if he was actually wrong.
I don't believe he was actually tagged. I don't see the mitt move at all like it hit any part of his body and moreover I just don't see a tag at all. I think this Ump is actually spot on with that call. I know the player reacted like he couldn't believe it - but mostly because he should have been out by a mile - assuming of course the catcher did his job and tagged him. I just don't think he did.
I dont know if I agree. Whenever I was on the basepath, you know if you were tagged or not. So as you're popping up you're looking right at the umpire for a signal. Also, he never touched home until after he popped up anyway. He did so very slowly in fact.
Unbelievable call there. The ump must have thought the catcher missed the tag. From the Braves' dugout angle, it does kind of look like the catcher misses the tag; but if he missed the tag, then why did Lugo act so surprised once the ump called him safe? I think it was just a blown call by an ump who wanted to go home. No excuse for that.
In other news, anybody else notice the batter faceplant after taking a couple steps? I didn't notice that until I had seen the replay a couple times and almost burst out laughing!
I think he just wanted the game to end, he probably really had to take a dump.
But going with the swipe tag in that situation seems a little odd. Slap the glove on the dude's thigh, pop up, and gun the hitter out at first.
I thought that was odd as well but you have to remember, that dude caught all 19 innings for the Pirates....guy must have been seriously exhausted.
this game enrages me to no end. Bring on instant replay.
