OT: Pierre to White Sox

Submitted by Seth9 on
The Dodgers traded Juan Pierre and $10.5 million to the White Sox for two players to be named later. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/baseball/mlb/12/15/pierre.whiteso… This means that Chicago only has to pay $8 million, all owed next year, so they get a quality outfielder for $4 million a year. YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!

I would hardly qualify the acquisition of Pierre for the price they got going all out (now Peavy and Rios, maybe). It's certainly an apt replacement for Podsednik who wasn't going to be resigned due to his demand for a multi-year contract. All in all, a good acquisition, hits for decent average, has speed, good fielder. I'll take it. Pierre, Rios, and Quentin covering the outfield.

Agree to disagree then. His lifetime .301, .348 numbers to go along with 5 straight 162 game seasons, only impeded my Mannywood, with steal averages near 50 per season, seem to disagree with him not being a good player. He has good range. His arm is clearly a liability, but that is why he will be in left field. He is no star, but he should get the job done at the lead off position.

As a Dodger fan, it is a sad day when getting this dead weight off the roster (after years of pulling my hair out over his awfulness) brings me no joy because Frank McBankrupt and his horrible wife have run the franchise into the ground while they try to split up their heavily mortgaged assets in the upcoming divorce.

is one of the best in the MLB. He always seems to make good trades. Gavin Floyd for Freddy Garcia was a steal by the Sox. The have went all out this year and if you look at their moves, Tehan is an upgrade from what they had at 3rd as well. On paper the White Sox have a pretty solid team and if that rotation gets going they can match any team in baseball.... Peavy , Buerle, Floyd, Danks are all pretty good. But the Yankees bought another title anyway so why play the season right? lol

The guy is over paid I will give you that but the trade filled a need for the sox in RF since they let Dye go and he has one of he better arms in baseball. He wasn't brought to the Sox to be the super bat they have Carlos and Konerko. Yes Kenny Williams is one of the better GM's. The Sox needed a speedy lead off hitter and I would say JP fits that bill. And he got the Dodgers to pay most of his salary as well, like it or not I think the White Sox are going to be a tough team to play with this year based on paper but Detroit 2 years ago had that same feeling and feel apart. If you look at what Williams has done with not the best farm system I would say he gets the most out of his trades. If you look back at their World Series run he got Pods, signed Dye who most thought was done and AJ and I think the year before he got Garcia all good trades and signings. He doesn't do what the Twins GM does but for the money he gets the most out of so called washed up guys and young guys who most think can't play ... Bobby Jenks was one of those as well if I recall.

You must be kidding. The Tigers had no business being in the position they were last year (leading the division almost the whole season). That is why management has decided to get younger/cheaper. The Tigers lost Granderson, Lyon, Rodney, Polanco while the White Sox who have added Putz, Pierre, plus more. Maybe the Sox will be looking up at the Tigers in 2 years when some of their new prospects develop.

So is Putz going to close for the White Sox now? What is going on with Jenks? Did his contract expire or what? I most likely have an elevated opinion of him due to the fact that he absolutely pwned the Tigers throughout his career, but he seemed like a very capable closer. Can someone shed light on this?
