When I'm not shooting sports photos, I enjoy shooting nature photos and such. I thought this photo was worth sharing. I shot it from my backyard in Toledo, OH last night.
OT - Photo I shot last night
Legit. Great shot, man. The detail in the bottom right quadrant is exceptional.
has already recruited ALL the Moon's quadrants.
Ha. Can't stop laughing. That was one of the most ridiculous commercials ever shot.
what kind of camera was that shot with?
I shot this with a Canon 7D.
That mouse shadow looks familiar.
We call that one Muab Dib.
what type of lens? I tried a moon shot with a Sigma 18-200 with a Canon T2i and it was super tiny.
Any suggestions for getting a better pic? Hell, I'll try another now. The moon is super bright.
Canon 400 f/5.6L USM was the lens that I used.
200mm probably won't be enough reach, but suggestions are.
1. Use a tripod and a remote shutter release if you have one.
2. Set the ISO to 100 and use the lowest F stop that you can.
3. Set the shutter speed accordingly.
I shot this one at 1/640 F5.6 ISO 100.
Hope this helps.
Space bitches, Space!
I thought I typed www.mgoblog.com, but it seems to have redirected me to Flickr
You clicked on a post labeled "OT-Photo I shot last night" and you're surprised that there is photography talk going on?
No, I expected it. I just don't necessarily think moon pics by individual members qualifies as thread worthy. Now if the pic were taken with an incredible NASA designed space camera demonstrating detail that had never been seen before - then I could see how that would be OT thread worthy.
Then again I am a pro photographer, so my taste in photography is highly critical. I will give the OP props for a good shot and for having a 400mm prime lens, but to be honest, I don't think the photo itself is thread worthy. I'm not trying to be a douche, and I'm sure many others would agree with me as to whether or not this is thread worthy.
if you knew the OP was a primary source of photographs for the site (the main page)?
Well, Chewer D is the MGoBlog photographer, so that probably gives him the right. We've enjoyed a lot of his photography of football players and such, so why not his other stuff? I found it pretty interesting.
If you have to write that you're not trying to be a douche, you're probably being a douche.
"I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany."
I had a different take on it. I thought I typed in www.mgoblog.com and it took me to the moon!
I take your mom to the moon every night!
Don't apologize for giving his mother the trip of a lifetime.
Good news is that on the moon his mom weighs 1/6 what she does here
The Real Death Star !
I am just starting out in astrophotography (and celestial photography) myself. I plan on shooting mainly prime-focus through my 14 in Catadioptric telescope but I don't have my CCD camera yet.
Yeah, you'll get a lot better stuff than me. This is the best I can do with my 400mm.
suprised it took this long for this comment to pop up.
we all know the mgomoderators are government shills trying to keep us from the truth that the moon is in fact a space station used by the aliens to monitor our development as a species!
ps. not even I believe the moon is a space ship theory, but I love listening to the crazies on Coast to Coast radio sometimes...
You're blind man! Wake up! Think about it have you ever seen the white house and the moon in the same place at the same time??!!!?1???
I thought this said "I was shot last night"
Yeah it's that kind of night.
Making the drive up from Sarasota, FL to Toledo in a few weeks to visit with the Fam. Great shot...can't wait to enjoy "summer" when it's not 98 degrees and 99% humidity.
Sing to the colors that float in the light;
Hurrah for the Yellow and Blue!
Yellow the stars as they ride through the night
And reel in a rollicking crew;
Yellow the field where ripens the grain
And yellow the moon on the harvest wain;
I wasn't aware that the OP regularly photographs the team or its members, and is known for doing so. This fact changes the thread-worthiness quotient in my opinion. My ignorance was displayed obviously. I apologize to the OP and again commend you on your work.
OP, Any plans on moving to a 5DIII? Also, I just saw Canon released a new body geared towards astrophotography specifically which is pretty cool. The 7d is a great body, but on e you go full frame it is tough to go back to crop.
No worries. I do plan on buying a full frame sometime soon. I have several camera bodies, as I'm sure you do too. I just don't own a full frame. The astrophotogrpahy camera that Canon released is a modified 60D if I remember correctly. My dream would be the Canon 1D X , but at $6,500, it's a bit out of the price range right now.
Yes, I shoot with a d800 currently backed by a d700, and it was very much worth the expense. Have you thought about a 6d? That is a budget full frame that is getting rave reviews lately and it is very affordable.
Would this camera result in better stills of the games? (not complaining about current ones....) if so I could be convinced via kickstarter to throw in a few bucks...
I know nothing of photography, but do love great in game photos.
It's about space, which is part of the university, so it shouldn't be OT.
Is that Charlie Weis?
I am bigger
I noticed the moon was real low in the sky last night and thought it was cool.
They should give the side we don't see a name, and then Pink Floyd should name an album after it. I propose "Mark Died of the Soon" or something like that.
moon is now in range for Zoltan punt
Hey! We landed on the moon!
Full moon last night?
Maybe Everett Golson's real problem is that he's been outed as a werewolf.
It was a full moon LAST night, not the night of the pic. But damned if I can see where it's not full.
Wow. Nice pic.
Elephants are larger.
To be fair, Toledo is about the least "Ohio" part of Ohio. There is a significant population of Michigan and Detroit fans there.
90% of the buckeye fans here like Detroit pro teams. They are a confused bunch.
Wow that really sucks
....That you live in Ohio. Nice picture though!
If you see Alex Avila take a picture of him for us...
seriously... nice photo. Thanks
Bill Nye the science guy stamp of approval:
Seriously, great job. My kids were begging for a telescope after seeing the moon that night. Now I can show them this photo until the next b-day rolls around.
Took a similar photo from 7 Mile Beach in West Bay, Grand Cayman, B.W.I.
I love this site!!
Hey man, nice shot
