Felix Hernandez just struck out the side in the 8th inning -- perfect going to the ninth.
Hockey pet peeve: "when a teammate tips a puck in on you, which is exactly how my first collegiate goal against happened. Thanks, Copper."
You really don't want him to get it, huh?
Maybe now we can put that superstitious bs to rest, huh?
That "superstitious BS" is part of the tradition of the game. I'm sure you'll find out exactly how many people here honor traditions if you make a post like that while somebody on the Tigers is doing it.
Besides, how bleeping difficult is it to say something like, "You might want to turn on the Tigers right now?"
Here we go!
I'm guessing you're a Rays fan?
There are Rays fans?
There are plenty of "Rays fans" here. They show up just in time for the playoffs.
No sir -- just a fan of this type of stuff.
That slider is nasty...
Never seen that live before -- pretty exciting
I watched the 8th and 9th, and Felix struck out 5 of the 6 batters. That was impressive
Hail to The King baby!
These kinds of things always seem to happen to the Rays. Too many free-swingers on that team. Hell of a game by King Felix, though. Kudos to the young man.
The next great Yankee. I hate the fucking Yankees.
Don't bet on it. Felix has expressed desire to win in Seattle many times. If the Mariner's front office will match the deal the Yankees will throw at him he will likely stay. The M's front office has kept mum for a while now but so far they have tried to build a team around him and most experts seem to think the organization wants to keep that going.
"...desire to win in Seattle"
"If the Mariner's front office will match the deal the Yankees will throw at him"
The Mariners are not lacking in funds. They gave Ichiro a huge contract back in 07 and he was 34 at the time. A young stud like Felix gets paid even by teams like Seattle. It's no different than Verlander's situation except Felix is three years younger. He is due 19.5 mil next year and 20 in 2014. If he doesn't get hurt it's likely his next contract will be 22-26. It all comes down to whether the Mariners pony up the dough. The jump from 20 to 26 isn't huge. LIke I said most M's writers seem to think the organization will try to keep him.
The Mariners may have infinity, but the Yankees have infinity + 1
Not saying the Mariners wont offer him a substantial contract, the Yankees will just offer more if they want him
You're right that Seattle can't match a Yankee offer; however, why would a pitcher want to leave the spacious confines of Seatle and go and play in that little league field in NY?
to $189M by 2014... but who am I kidding, if the Yanks feel they need to add the King to their staff, they'll throw everything at him because, in reality, their current starters are really not too deep.
Mariner fan checking in. People always say that, but I think it's about as likely at this point as Verlander being the next great Yankee. Any time I have seen Felix get asked the question, including multiple times in various interviews today, he has emphatically shot the idea down. Seattle is better off hanging on to him for now considering he is only 26. If they still aren't contending at the end of his contract or if they sign him to an extension, then maybe it's time to trade him. For now, no way Jose.
I've had a rough night and I hate the f*uckin' Eagles, man
That boy good!
Mmm good n terrible
Awesome watching it live. Even better, Barry Larkin talking about it in the post-game show. I knew I liked Barry Larkin, and had an the inclination he was a Wolverine so I looked it up. Confirmed.
We're now entering the "Testosterone Era"
that leaving the steriod era is causing these perfect games though. Even in the dead ball era we didn't see anything like this before. Also, this thread is evidence against the people who cry jinx when you talk about no-no's and perfect games. You find me a single no-hitter in the history of baseball that nobody talked about, then maybe I will buy that haha.
Convince the thousands of guys who were in that ballpark today who stopped talking and turned off their phones when perfection was on the line, that they weren't partly responsible for making that perfect game happen.
Those People are idiots
Once those steroid users were done corrupting the game of baseball, I don't think they had any "free swingers"!
So I landed in Seattle today and couldn't decide what to do before my meetings tonight. Go to the Mariners game or site see around Seattle. I now have some great photos of Safeco field from the Space Needle while a perfect game was being pitched. :-(
