OT Pelini takes parting shot at Nebraska Athletic Department

Submitted by poseidon7902 on

Pelini in a press conference took a zinger shot at the Nebraska Athletic Department.

"I believe that I have a great situation here," the 47-year-old Pelini said, "have a tremendous athletic director, have a president who understands football, who's going to support me, something that I don't know if I've ever had."

That's not a very impressive "shot."

More impressive would have been something like,"yeah, well I had sex with your wife!"

That was a fine parthian shot.

I had hoped Pelini would do something more dramatic and classical, however, like lighting cats on fire and turning them loose to burn the Nebraska campus down.

I do hope for Pelini's best.  I'm confident Nebraska is going to be second-guessing their decision to cut him loose for many years to come.

That coach retired, he wasn't fired.  The ire leveled at him around here has more to do with his lack of leadership as the de facto patriarch of the football program the past 7 years.  The ire has to do with the fact with his using that position to handcuff this program from progressing over the past 7 years.

Can you imagine what fans and alumni would say at Nebraska if Tom Osborne was cutting his successors off at the knees by not offering them support from inside the Nebraska AD?

I still can't get over the fact that Ohio is so football crazy that one of its universities thinks a football coach is an appropriate president.

a few years back there was a poll taken off registered Ohio voters by a newspaper (Cleveland, IIRC) & the gist was putting the candidates for different positions against JT. They were asked to only decide in seriousness, no B.S., etc and he won literally every race. They polled a thousand out so over a couple weeks and he win the Governor's seat, fuggin districts, judge seats, sherrif.....all them shits haha. Google it as I'm too lazy but it's scary hilarious. I mean, they HONORED him the year after they fired him and were under the bowl ban, etc. Genuinely consider that! During "The Game", IIRC. Not even ESPN ran with such easy "wtf?" pickings! Nobody but local news even mentioned it haha. It's a huge reason for the gap right now. At some point they collectively went to a "by any means necessary" mentality. They're just way more redneck and DGAF than 20 years ago. They'd definitely elect him Gov/Senator.

I expected something like from The Decemberists' Calamity Song: "Setting the lay of Nebraska alight, til all that remains is the arms of the angel".  He should have burned the mother down...

I don't blame him for saying it - Eichorst and company gave him some rather shitty treatment on the way out at Nebraska, and the AD didn't help himself when he let the players know via e-mail to boot. Not sure I would want to work for someone that had that sort of attitude towards the people that work / play for his department either.

I still believe that for this alone Shawn Eichorst deserves to be in the running for the 1st Annual Black & Decker Massive Tool Award, if we can make this a thing.

Apparently he had quite a bit more to say about it to his players.

I remember getting negged and scoffed at by someone here for suggesting the day he was fired that, given his record, it must have been something personal between the AD and him. Wish I'd cared enough to remember who that was.

But a likable asshole.

His rants were somewhat classic.  What's so wrong with that?

And didn't he average 8 wins a year?  Brady would still be here if he did as well.
