OT - Pavel Datsyuk Praise thread

Submitted by Oscar Goldman on

Wild ride that game was - but wanted to start a praise thread for this guy, man has been a beast through the first two games. I remember his first year, he always had the magic hands, but now he has the grit and desire to match. He is definitely moving up my list of all-time favorite Wings. Once Hank is back, watch out!

*Also Franzen deserves some love too, coming back after that hit. Go Wings!

He is awesome to watch. I love it when someone goes to hit him and he just unexpectedly lays them out. Plus his hands are ridiculous.

Also, fuck those refs and fuck shane doan

The guys in the black and white stripes were the MVPs for Phoenix in the second half of the game.

Two minute 5-on-3? In the playoffs?

After the Wings scored their 4th goal, Phoenix had SIX power plays.

Geeze what a player...he, along with Ovechkin, are the most fun to watch in the NHL. We are lucky he's on our favorite team. Need Zett back soon though as PD can't do it all every game. Would it not be great to get a sweep over the Coydogs?

Best player in the NHL? Come on, don't be a homer. Datsyuk is great, but there's no question that Crosby (as much as I hate to say it) is the best player in the NHL followed closely by Ovechkin. Datsyuk may well be top 5, but he's nowhere near the best player in the NHL. Best two-way forward in the game? Absolutely. Best player? No.

What's how you spell "Gary Bettman" in Arabic? It couldn't be my avatar you're speaking of, since it's very obviously Hebrew, not Arabic.

Sorry, you can call me Gary Bettman all you want, but the fact of the matter is that (a) every fanbase in the NHL hates Gary Bettman just as much as Wings fans and (b) most NHL fans believe that Crosby and Ovechkin are better players than Datsyuk. Me thinking that Datsyuk is the third best player in the NHL isn't insulting at all.

I'm glad that you found what I said insulting, because that is how it was intended. Insisting that Datsyuk is "easily the best player in the NHL" is very homeristic. You could make a compelling argument that he's one of the top five players, but insisting that he's easily the best player in the game is ridiculous. My point is very clear. Most people do not feel Datsyuk is the best. If you can't make sense of that, I don't know what to tell you.

2-way player in the game today. What a joy to watch and whenever he is on the ice you always feel like something good may happen.

But we sure as hell need Zetterberg back to take some more pressure off of him.

Anyone hear anything about when he may be back?

Datsyuk is the most underrated and underappreciated player in the league. His game is sick, stick handling, vision, scoring ability, pass, defense, checking, and picking people's pockets is just unreal. There is nothing he can't do; the only knock would be that he is too unselfish...How many superstar level talent players can you say that about!?!?

I'm just glad he's on our side...Go Wings!

Even though the Wings ARE the biggest draw for the NHL in terms of TV viewership and attendance, the NHL abuses them. That is why Pavel is the most under appreciated guy in the NHL. Also, if he was on any other team, he would get an average of 2 minutes more ice time per game. His stats would go up.

Pavel and lidstrom were about 5 rows away, I couldn't by face identify the other two wings with them.

Datsyuk was amazing today - as always. On a Michigan related note the feeling I've always gotten when Datsyuk has time and space on the ice is the same feeling I get when Denard hits a hole and has an opening. It's like pure sports anticipation at it's best.

has been a gift for us fans over the years. What is also remarkable is the ability of the Wings organization to continually convince players, who would otherwise own multiple scoring titles, to concentrate on the defensive aspect of their game to become complete players and help the team even more.

Datsyuk was always a great two playerand could own the scoring title every year if was let loose but the team would suffer. Ever since Bowman came on board and told Stevie and Sergei that they would get to play a little 'left wing lock' forward defense the Wings have been dominant.

pipeline! Detroit always find gems in the draft.

Nicklas Lindstrom was drafted 3rd round (1st ballot HOF lock)

Sergei Fedrov: 4th round

Chris Osgood: 3rd round

Thomas Holstrom: 10th round

Pavel Datsyuk: 6th round

Henrik Zetterberg: 7th round

Johan Franzen: 3rd round

The Wings ability to find gems in the draft is what made them successful. Most people think they brought championship before the salary cap was implemented but it's the ability to find significant contributors in late rounds is what sets them apart as a franchise. 20th consecutive playoff appearance is a testament to a great front office/organization.

is the best GM around. I watched replays of the goals last night and of course saw Holmstrom parked in front of the net and Pavel directing the play (1 goal 3 asst). My wife even noticed Holmstrom and was amazed at his tip redirect goal.

You are right about the Wings and the draft but then they get the guys to stay and believe in the organization as well which leads to 20 year players and 20 year playoff runs.
