Not sure if anyone saw earlier in the LSU game but Patrick Peterson returned a punt for a TD and struck the pose in the end zone. He got flagged for it. To me I think thats a bit premature and stupid.
OT - Patrick Peterson
You only strike the pose if you're, like, going to win the Heisman.
Does this mean he is now in the Heisman race? Can he jedi mind trick the public like this? Well played, if so.
It wasn't even that great a return, poor coverage on WVU and great blocking by his teammates.
Seriously, it's game 4 out of 12 (or 13). Just smile, run really, really ridiculously fast and preach about being a team player.
Its like guaranteeing a win. When Namath did it, it was epic. Now everyone does it and half of them lose and its not a big deal anymore.
As a college football fan he is mighty impressive
As a tulane alum, I hope he gets broken on a punt return at some point and has to spend the rest of his life in that cess pool known as baton rouge.
I just moved from Baton Rouge to Boulder. Quite an upgrade for me. I always tell people the only good thing about Baton Rouge is that it's only an hour from New Orleans.
in Honolulu Blue and Silver though....
Hahahaha this is actually comical. When desmond did it it was actually a critical game and situation and at the end of the season.
he is not made from the Dilithium.
Not specific to this play, but I noticed in this game that WVU is using the huddle, as opposed to the RR no huddle spread. With the tools at his disposal (Noel Devine, etc...) why change Offensive philosophy?
cause this guy is their head coach
Obviously I want Denard to take home the stiff-arm trophy, but Peterson is an amazing cornerback. He deserves any hype that he gets.
Striking the pose after an easy return in the 4th game of the season. He needs to keep his head on straight.
Denard's kneel after he scores is way more B.A. than any other celebration in college football.
Let's say the Heisman race does come down to Denard and Peterson.
Denard will by far outshine Peterson in the statistics category. Then there is Denard's character vs. Peterson's. Peterson's Heisman pose 4 games into the season gives us an inside look to what he thinks of himself and who he is as a team player. The Heisman trust voters will take notice.
You're giving the voters too much credit.
Peterson's a great player, one of the best defensive players in college football, but he's always been arrogant like that.
He also has a knack for cramping up when the game's on the line.
I like how Michigan fans are like "Peterson is way out of line for doing this. Desmond Howard did it, but...but...but...it was, like, an important game!"
It was a cocky thing to do by Desmond Howard.
It was a cocky thing to do by Patrick Peterson.
It's as simple as that.
When Howard did it, it was a novelity, it was cool. He was running away wit the Heisman at tha point. Peterson is an idiot for doing it at this point.
To you, yeah. You're a Michigan fan.
Desmond Howard struck that pose about 20 years ago. Peterson was probably an infant then. It's cliched to us because we're Michigan fans and we've seen it replayed 20,000 times.
To an LSU player or fan? They've probably seen it, but it's not nearly as "old hat" as it is to us.
Regardless . . . like I said, it was a cocky move by both players. Different situations, sure, but still cocky and unnecessary. If players would just hand the ball to the ref and carry on with their business (Barry Sanders, Denard Robinson), we wouldn't even be having this discussion.
I think Peterson is more deserving of the Heisman than Robinson is, as of now. 2 Punt returns and two picks are impressive.
