OT: Pacquiao-Bradley Open Thread
The rational thinker in me says Pacquiao by (Arum influenced) decision. He's the golden goose for Top Rank.
Should Pacquiao win I can sigh with derision as he comes up with new and innovative ways to avoid beating of a lifetime that Money Mayweather would put on him.
Also, WTF is this with Pacquiao slow rolling in getting gloved. #unprofessional
Who here knew bradley is a vegan?
That's impressive. No meat or milk protein? He's ripped for sure.
let's go already
Pacquiao is not taking this seriously enough...If Bradley was more of a power puncher I would definitley bet on a KO...however I will go with Bradley in a UD
what a horrible singer
Both of them.
my ears are bleeding
Bradley also trains in Michigan shirts...
that is veron topic, so OT?
BTW Pacman is a beast. Bradley looked better, but Pacquiao hits hard!
anyone know why bradley was wearing a michigan shirt in his training video?
No Idea maybe someone gave it to him when he fought Alexander in Pontiac.
Bradley is a damn good fighter, not the guy Manny wants to take lightly. Especially since he wasn't very sharp v. Marquez.
He won't be playing this song for his next fight.
Buffer must be damn near 70, but he never ages.
Close enough for a cigar.
Per Wikipedia, Mr. Buffer is 67.
off his voice?
Pacman looked bad for 2 minutes and 30 seconds and then he won the round.
Pacquiao...sucks for 2 mins. lands three shots...wins the round...no wonder boxing is getting killed by mma of late. Jeebus.
I don't know if I'd say it is being killed. Mayweather and Pacman fights routinely outsell UFC PPVS.
This is boxing's problem. Twice a year they can outsell the UFC. The other 12 to 15 ppv that UFC runs and the deal with Fox differentiate their product exposure.
Agreed although I'd say it's more around 4 times a year. Boxing should put out better free tv fights to develop interest in some of the very talented young fighters that are out there.
A lack of quality american heavyweights is what is killing boxing right now. People love to see the big punches and big KOs. The best fights now are at lower levels. It's going to take more heavyweights to bring back boxing.
Amir Khan, Chad Dawson, Andre Berto, Adrien Broner, Gamboa, and Danny Garcia just to name a few. The problem is these guys aren't that famous because all of their fights are on PPV and most people don't want to pay to see them.
Heavyweight has been one of the weaker divisions in boxing going back for decades. Tyson was the last big draw at heavy and it wasn't like he was facing a bunch of great competition.
Honestly, I've lost interest in recent years. But I'd still rather watch it than this real life version of professional wrestling everyone's into now.
If this fight goes late rounds I think Pac has it.
these guys are too light and too experienced for a KO
bradley is going down....too many straight lefts.
I am intrigued by the HBO crew minimizing Bradley hitting Pacquiao. It seems that Bradley is hitting him well but the HBO crew won't acknowledge it.
because they have watched a lot of fights and they understand that Bradley lacks power and nothing he is hitting is landing cleanly...I thought Pacman wasn't taking this seriously enough, but now it looks like he didn't need to be fully committed.
All about clean shots and power shots. When you get hit clean, with hard punches, all your jabs get thrown out the window
Manny looks too confident.
Where are all the guys predicting a Bradley win?
here, rethinking their predicitons.
Pacquiao looking good
he was saved by the bell
Mayweather and pacquio
Watching this fight makes me consider how easy a fight Pacquiao would be for Mayweather. It's no wonder Pacquiao ducks him in such a cowardly way.
Pac is playing with him. that fight would be great, but not a sure fire bet for Mayweather
Not a boxing fan, but Pac man looks amazing. His hands defending his head is perfect and the announcers love his power.
Bradley is a good fighter but he's nowhere close to Mayweather who is the best fighter of his generation. Pacquiao is the last truly marketable fighter that Top Rank has in its roster. So he ducks Mayweather, refuses blood testing for the steroids, won't accept $40 million to fight Mayweather (who draws better on PPV)...ducks him. Pacquiao is undeniably talented but being the second best of your generation means you have to duck the bet guy if you want to claim you're the best.
Bradley has a ton of heart, but if he had the power of Mayweather, this may be over.
Right. Because Mayweather has demonstrated bone-crushing power throught his career....right? Manny would walk through all of Money's jabs
Cotto got his shots on Money...and Pacman punches a LOT harder.
Apparently Pacquiao's brutal power has really impacted Bradley in this fight...
Yeah. Bradley running backward is his plan to victory.
Or it's just survival time.
The only thing I know about a Pacman v Mayweather fight is that I have no idea what would happen....also this one is done.
Bradley is showing a tremendous amount of heart, but at this point it looks like he doesn't belong in the same ring as Manny.
These announcers are so bad. I almost want to turn off the sound
Is it not the HBO feed?
I also love how perception colors reality.
Manny smiles in the ring at fighters and announcers = having fun.
Floyd smiles in the ring at fighters and announcers= What a cocky, arrogant, son of a bitch! Disgusting!
Really? Usually when I've seen PBF fight Steward and Kellerman say the same thing when he smiles.
If anything is clear based on these last two fights, Manny and Floyd have both lost a step.
But Floyd's defense is so good!
for posting the link
At this point the only danger for Pac is if he gases. I think he's going to coast from here on out.
Pac answered alot of the questions I had after the JMM fight.
If Pac fights like this against Floyd he'll get tooled.
Well clearly he'll adjust against Floyd, or anyone else he'd fight.
He won't because he knows he doesn't have to fight Bradley like he has to fight Mayweather.
I'm just glad he looks like he's resolved some of his issues from the last fight.
Now if he could just resolved that Bob Arum issue...
So if he completely outclasses pbf he will be tooled? Because that's what he had done to Bradley. Color me confused by your statement.
A fighter can dominate a fight, but not look that great. You can also extrapolate things from his performance and apply them to a potential match up with a vastly superior fighter.
Bradley is not Mayweather. Pac's movement and defense don't look to be up to level necessary to beat Floyd. Manny slowed down in the second half of the fight.
EDIT: LOLOLOL Try beating Timothy Bradley before you come at Floyd.
But this fight will make him a lot better fighter in the future.
Glad it's free
People still care about boxing?
yes
Hey! Bradley won a round.
Sun shines on a dog's Ass every once in awhile.
Hey I could get a good look at a butcher's ass by sticking my head up there but wouldn't you rather take his word for it...err wait it's gotta be your bull
Unortunately, you don't have to be the best at the end.
I am glad Pacquiao is looking this good.
Please allow for your loyal subject Manny Pacquiao to fight Floyd Mayweather now. I understand all he will earn is $40 million. Sometimes you have to sacrifice in this life. In your promotion, you can't make any fights that matter, apparently (or at least any that anyone will pay for). I understand that Pacquiao is the last fighter you have that matters but, realistically, what legacy will he have if all he does is duck the best fighter of the era.
Given the current "product" you're putting out there...what other choice do you have?
Ok let's see a PBF v Pacman fight now before these guys are too old and nobody cares anymore.
I guess when you are that good you can watch a basketball game instead of preparing for your huge title fight.
Somewhere, right now, in a Nevada jail cell, Floyd Mayweather is currently sleeping very soundly.
WTF were these judges smoking? HOLY FUCK
What just happened?
WHAT?!?!?!?
Man, I thought Bob Arum had more pull.
Wow. Blind judges.
Congrats bradley. didn't see that coming
"never let it go to the cards...." as they say
Wow
HBO announcers completely wrong. They are like Pam Ward.
hahah this is awesome!
props to bradley!
fillipinos will run amok on the Strip!
What a joke. Im not even a fan of boxing and i thought manny dominated
I guess Pacquiao should have taken Floyd's money last year. It has to suck to leave $40 millon dollars on the table. #karma
Floyd's in jail right now, correct?
I think that's karma.
fuck this I defend boxing all the time, but fuck this
I am with you here man.
now that I think about it, I wonder if Arum is going to milk this for the rematch.
Well, it's not like Manny Pacquiao is going to be fighting Floyd Mayweather any time soon (given the assured ass kicking he would be taking). This is a very, very good move by Arum from a pure promotional perspective.
If you're right, then Arum has corrupted the sport even more than I thought it already was...
but the HBO seems to think Pac man was cheated. Is this correct?
Pacman won easily....I don't see anyway at all that anyone could have given Bradley more than 3 rounds... I would have given him 1 maybe 2
but pacquiao seemed to dominate this fight. I have no idea how they came to this decision.
ESPN has an analyst on righ tnow calling the judges corrupt. I won't go that far, but I will not deny the possibility.
And his name is Manny.
I dead seriously think Floyd paid off the judges so that he could say Manny isn't worth his time. This is such a joke. Boxing is a farce.
Floyd is too stupuid to do something that clever.
He would have liked to be the one to take advantage of Manny's decline.
I am completely amazed.
I seriously would not want to be Bradley if there is a rematch....I think pacman might literally kill this guy...that was bullshit.
November 10 rematch.
Congratulations Bob Arum.
So now you get another payday for Pacquiao and he gets to avoid Mayweather.
Well played Bob, well played.
I think Money is the one doing the ducking honestly.
But probably two rematches.
I'm watching the British feed, and they have a FAR different perception of the fight than the HBO guys. It was much closer to them than what the HBO guys were saying. Some of them gave the first two rounds to Bradley.
Pac got robbed, but he gave away the entire second half of the fight, and basically shut it down after the 7th round. So if a dumb judge gives one or two of the early rounds the Bradley, then he's gonna win the fight. If this shows anything, you can't give away rounds.
It's like Dana White always says, "Don't let it get into the hands of the f*cking judges!"
Pac got robbed though, and that's the bottom line.
In other news, I can hear Floyd's maniacal laughter all the way from his prison cell.
The conspiracy theorist in me sees Arum's hand at work here...
I think round 1 could have gone either way and then round 10 could have been Bradley's, but I just can't find 5 more rounds that he could have won. Three is the most I could see him getting.
I had the HBO PPV on my TV, but after 5 rounds of blatantly slurping Pac, I turned off the sound and put the British feed on my computer so that I could listen to those guys commentate. Most of them had Bradley winning the entire second half of the fight due to counter punching.
Who did they score as winning the fight?
Pretty much all of them scored it as a close win for Pac, but said they could see how Bradley would win a split decision if a round or two was flipped.
They're saying based on this decision that it's a shame JMM didn't win his fight with Pac, because they all thought he won, and especially in light of this decision. There needs to be an immediate rematch.
They're also all in tears over Pac-Mayweather being dead.
I think Pac was robbed, but they think it was a closer fight than I did, and I thought it was closer than the HBO guys were making it out to be. It wasn't a totally lopsided dominating performance where Pac won 10 or 11 out of the 12 rounds, but I thought he took a solid 8.
He's the greatest fighter in the world...
I agree with you. This is so frustrating. I have watched a ton of boxing in my life and usually I am pretty accurate on the winner. I thought Pac-Man's last fight could have gone either way, i thought this one was a no brainer, I am not sure how I could have been so wrong.
I just rewatched rounds 11 and 12 and I guess you could maybe give him those, but still that is only 4 rounds and I think it is a reach to give him those.
I thought at the most, you could give Bradley 4 rounds. 5 would really be stretching it. 6 is absurb, and 7 is UN-POSSIBLE.
Absolutely agree
Even if he won the last three rounds and that is a big if.......there is no way he won four rounds earlier. Ridiculous.
I really don't think it was even that close. Bradley seemed to struggle with landing shots that had an effect on Manny. Manny landed more power punches, more punches, had a higher percentage of punches landed, but also his punches seemed to have way more effect on Bradley than the punches he took.
But I still think he got robbed.
I've read a lot of posts on here about Manny "avoiding" Floyd. You guys can't be serious or you obviously don't follow boxing. If anything it's been the exact opposite with Floyd's camp constantly coming up with something to not make it happen.
Bob Arum is the reason this fight hasn't happened.
That's the excuse out of mayweather camp. Bob Arum is an easy guy to blame. But, mayweather camp with all the ped bs and the refusal to even consider a 50/50 split isn't at fault. Ok
both camps have been at fault. Whenever one is ready for the fight the other comes up with some bullshit to put it off.
fight until they've exhausted every last ounce of media attention. for casual fans that's the only topic worth discussing. the sport is on life support and i don't see it getting any better. i won't be surprised if ten years from now boxing turns into an obscure underground sport only shown on espn 8 the ocho. quite sad really.
Well, all Pac has to do is take the tests and call Mayweather's bluff. Shane did it. Cotto did it too.
Pac has used every excuse in the book as to why he won't take the tests, from a Rafael Palmeiro-esque "I have never, nor will I ever use steroids," to "Hey, trust me guy!" , to "Boxing standards are fine bro, relax," to "I'm suing you for libel!", to "It's waaaaay to much blood man," to "I'm terrified of needles!"
It's ridiculous at this point.
If any baseball player used as many excuses as Pac has as to why he refuses to be subjected to more stringent tests by MLB for steriods, everyone would be on him, calling him a juice head. Since it's the golden boy, Manny Pacquiao, getting pushed around by mean ol' Floyd Weather, Money is considered the douche.
EDIT: That being said, I don't blame Pac because the money split is ridiculous, but it doesn't look quite as ridiculous now. Most casual fans aren't tuning into the fight to watch Pac. They're tuning into the fight to see if somebody can finally beat Floyd Mayweather. Floyd is right on that count.
Floyd draws better than Pac on PPV; he has every right to offer Pacquiao 40 million given his draw...
When the fighter who won, Bradley, states that he has to watch the tape to see if he won it is a sad day for boxing.
I'm never ordering a boxing PPV ever again...The sport died hard today with millions and they deserve it with that fucking joke.
Tomorrow I think I'll watch the whole fight over again with no sound, but I still can't see my opinion changing much. I mean the announcers were calling it for Bradley early in round 1 when he was in control and in round 10 which he also won.
I'm thinking the judges who scored the fight for Bradley probably gave him the first 2 rounds, rounds 9-12, and one of the middle rounds.
EDIT: I was pretty much spot on. I'll just pat myself on the back over here and...
and very knowledgeable, in fact Sandy, my GF could easily be a boxing judge, trust me when I say that that was the biggest bunch of bullshit! Also, I used to box, this was a joke!
We both had Manny winning 11 rounds to 1, 119-109 was what that score should've been, shameful fucking corrupt and makes me sick to my stomach! He fucking out-punched him by close to a 100 punches and they were way more impactful, SMH!
I am in shock right now. I thought pacquiao lost his last fight but this wasnt very close. I have a hard time believing that this wasn't fixed. I don't know what to say. It seems like they may be forcing pacquiao vs mayweather to try and keep boxing alive.
Your statement about Bradley only hitting Pac 5 times, and your score for the fight don't really match up...
I think that the judges did not want to think that they had fixed things for Manny after the previous controversy, so they decided if the match was close, they go against Manny. It wasn't really all that close though.
People there is video to prove anything these days. Bob recently admitted he's had a 50/50 contract for 3 years they didn't want. As soon as Floyd says something is off the table that is what Bob wants. So it can look like he's trying. In truth he wants to collect from both sides. But let's go back
Dec 2009, both sides agree to terms then Pac backs out with a fear of needles, Roach says they need 3 days for Manny to feel right, Floyd agrees to that and team Pac backs out wanting 7, Floyd agrees and teamPac backs out needing 30 days. Floyd agreed to the fight 3 times and Pac changed his needs 3 times. You don't agree to a fight as a means to duck.
Jan 2010 Bob pulls out of negotiations, Floyd says we do it now or I'll never offer a cutoff date again.
This is going to be too long so I'll skip to this year
Jan 2012 "Mannys cut won't allow him to fight May 5th"
upon hearing Floyd is going to jail Bob says "Manny may take that date"
upon hearing Floyd pushed back his turn in date until June 1st "well this fight is too big, we need a temporary stadium that will be finished late May"
If people still buy Bobs tricks I pitty them, BTW where is the stadium Bob?haha
If you need any proof Bob set this sham decision up for the rematch, watch the post fight presser where they are already advertising the rematch, date, venue and all. He is old but he's still the Bobfather
Great post...
Not sure why anyone is really surprised....if anything ole bob now has people talking about bradley/pac 2 instead of any kind of bout with Floyd.
Khan sure as hell isn't going to fight floyd either. Hell the only reason Cotto fought him is because he got out of top rank.
The only fight which would be fun to watch down the line is a floyd/canelo fight. Those 2 will be avoided by Arum like the plague. Arum will continue to keep his guys fighting in house and unless he passes very quickly some of these big fights will never happen.
I can honestly see how someone would score the fight for Bradley.
I thought Pac won, and was robbed, but a case could be made that Bradley stole 1 of the first 2 rounds, round 5, and took 5 of the last 6.
Pac coasted the entire second half of the fight and let Bradley get back into it. Re-watch it, and mute the volume. IDK what happened but he started coasting, not doing much and trying to steal every round with a flurry at the end. Bradley established his jab late, and did a nice job of effectively counter punching Pac.
It's Pac's own fault he lost. Yes, he was robbed, but you don't have any control over the judges. You only have control over what you do, and IMO, Pac gave away quite a few rounds late. Any one of which, would have saved him.
PacMan clearly won the fight. Yes Pacman coasted the first 2 minutes of almost every rd in the second half of the fight but he landed way more punches and he clearly hits harder than Bradley. He even had Bradley hurt a few times. Listen this is a BOB ARUM FIX!!!! This is Arum's way of keeping 2 of his fighters in the spotlight while preventing a Mayweather-pac man fight. If Bob cant have his hands in both fighters pockets then he wont let his fighters fight.
This is the worst decision I have seen in boxing. It looks more like the WWE than boxing, with the exception that nobody expects anyone to believe the WWE is authentic competition.
Come on. This wasn't that much worse than JMM - Pac.
Did you see Roy Jones in the Olympics? That was one of the worst decisions in boxing history.
Decision I have seen since Mosley/DeLaHoya
Some people really dislike Manny Pacquiao or perhaps HBO's admiration of Manny because no one could make a logical argument Timothy Bradley won that fight. You don't win rounds for throwing punches, you win rounds for landing punches, something Bradley didn't do. I scored Pacquiao-JMM 3 a draw, but could've seen a case being made for either guy winning.
There is no case to be made. Pacquiao landed more punches, more power punches, connected with a higher percentage. He won the fight. ESPN had it 119-109. HBO had it 119-109. Every other media outlet had it scored either 119-109 or 118-110. I thought Bradley won the 2nd round and the 12th.
I, for one, never plan on watching boxing again. And I was looking forward to Mayweather's next fight, Manny's next fight, Ward vs Dawson, Khan vs Garcia, even Chavez vs Lee next weekend. But, I'm done.
that something to do with a boxing match appears corrupt or otherwise not on the level.
If Pacquiao were to fights like that against Money, he would get fucked up...No contest ...
