OT Pacman-Mayweather fight in jeopardy.

Submitted by HelloHeisman91 on

Agree to the tests and move on Pacman. If he refuses to tough testing it looks horrible for him and his legacy. For me, this action alone makes me question if he is clean.

"According to Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer, who is negotiating the deal with Top Rank president Todd duBoef, Pacquiao refuses to have his blood drawn within 30 days of the bout based on his superstition of testing so close to a fight."

Roderick Jenrette, Ashton Leggett and Glenn Winston are superstitious about "unspecified team rules".

Tennessee "hostesses" are superstitious about traveling 200 miles to see Marcus Lattimore.

Lane Kiffin is superstitious about six secondary violations of NCAA policies in 2009.

Terrelle Pryor is superstitious about Corvette financing.

Funny, I seriously thought you were talking about PacMan Jones

Is he in wrestling or something similar?

Can't wait for September 2010...too many other sports to work through.

the thing is that they're not asking for an above and beyond type of testing, just olympic boxing type testing. if mayweather will do it, pacman should.

Pacquiao said that he would do it before or after the fight, he just doesn't want to do it during training. I don't see why that would be a problem.

Either way, if Pacman declines the fight because he doesn't want to do a blood test 30 days prior, does that mean he's on PEDs? Probably. But honestly, who isn't that's fighting professionally these days? Most (all) of them are on PEDs during their training and make sure they wash them out of their system before the fight. The ones who get caught on the drug test just have some horrible trainers.

HGH has a 48-hour detection window.. (only through blood)

He could get his test 30 days prior to the fight, juice up with HGH during training(which speeds up recovery and enables him to train harder without risking overtraining) and then suspend HGH 2 days before the fight..

I guess I naturally think football when I come here. I'm thinking Pacman Jones is trying to find a sport that won't mind him going to the strip club for a light afternoon snack and $3.99 breakfast.

If he refuses to fight because he won't submit to a test, it's a win for Mayweather.

Unfortunately, it's a huge loss for what few of us boxing fans still exist.

If this derails things, I'll go crazy.

EDIT: The articles say he'd do a blood test at the Jan. 13 news conference. Hopefully they can compromise. Although Manny should agree to some sort of blood testing, I'm sick of Floyd's bullshit.

This reminds me of Micheal Spinks refusing to come out of the dressing room for ten minutes to go fight Mike Tyson. Floyd is looking for excuses for this fight not to happen because he has been "living the life" the last two years while Pacquaio has been fighting.

Mayweather wants to derail the fight but make it look like he really wanted it. That way, his reputation is intact. Pacquaio should send somebody dressed like a chicken to Mayweather's next public appearance.

By setting up testing 30 days before the fight, in which both fighters would partake in, how is that Mayweather pulling a Spinks?

It screams to me that Manny is scared of getting caught with a banned substance in his system.

It sounds like Pacquiao is more than willing to be tested, including as many urinalysis as needed after the press conference. I can understand not wanting blood taken so close to the fight if it's gonna get him off his game.

His S&C guy Alex Ariza said Manny doesn't even like taking ibuprofen. From his background I really doubt doping.

An aside, where the f is Rico these days? I never got to properly talk shit after the destruction of Cotto.

Personally I wouldn't want to give blood IF it was 24 hours before the fight, but the amount that is withdrawn is so minute and the body would replenish that amount very quickly, that it would have zero impact physically on Manny. Mentally, well maybe a different story, but I thoroughly doubt that something of this nature would derail him, and if it does, then I question his mental fortitude.

Manny, it sounds like, wants to be tested but underneath the guidelines his camp sets out, which voids out "random testing", and I have to question what there is to hide because this superstition BS is just that.

Obviously you are a PacMan fan, so I can understand where you are coming from on this, but the ball is in Manny's court and he has more to lose from not fighting than Floyd does.

Also, boxing needs this fight moreso than anything else because they have fallen a distant 2nd to MMA, and there is very little big name attractions for them to rely on like this fight has the chance to.

I don't like Floyd at all. He is a clown and bad for the sport, if you ask me. But he isn't asking Manny to do anything that he, himself wouldn't be subject to. If Pacquio's people don't want to do it, there is a reason and it isn't "superstition".

Floyd Sr. has been saying that he (Pacquio) is on something, based on the fact that he started a such a low weight class (110 lbs, I think). I think it is kinda fishy that someone would start so small and move up multiple weight classes and carry his power with him. Cotto said he had never been hit that hard.

If Pacquio doesn't do it, he will face a lot of scrutiny for the rest of his career. If he says okay and Floyd Jr. finds something else to complain about, that tells me Floyd doesn't want the fight.

Mayweather has gone up multiple weight classes too. So what's the difference...?

I knew this fight was in danger of not happening as soon as it was announced. Everything happened way too smooth for such a big fight. Mayweather never wanted this fight to begin with. There's a reason why Mayweather's camp leaked out this information, and it's not so they could paint Pacquiao as the bad guy. It's because he never wanted to fight.

If Pacquaio will submit to any test before or after the fight, I don't see what the problem is. IMO if anyone looks bad right now, it's Floyd.

And let's be honest here, would you want blood taken while you were in the middle of your training sessions right before the biggest fight of your career?

Niag

That is the problem, Manny won't submit to "any test" before the fight. How in the hell does Floyd look bad when he isn't the one refusing to be tested.

There is way too much push back out of PacMan's camp on this one. I'm not saying he is juicing, but the onus of proof is now on Manny to conform to these tests in order to clear his name. In the court of public opinion, you are guilty until proven innocent.

Niag

December 24th, 2009 at 9:53 AM ^

Let me rephrase my response: Manny won't submit to "any test" within 30 days of the fight. I do understand that he would take one at the press conference, 30 days prior to, and immediately after the fight, with as many urinalysis as wanted.

No argument from me about Floyd Sr. and ignorance in the same sentence. My point being is that Floyd's camp has made a claim, and they want assurance, through olympic style testing, that Manny is 100% clean when they fight. Manny's camp is vehemently protesting the gold standard in testing because mainly it is random and he doesn't like needles/blood drawn (which how can he be superstitious when he is tatted up?).

So now the onus of proof is on Manny to prove Floyd Sr's allegations are bogus (and they very well may be). Perception is reality, especially on the stage these two perform on, and the perception that, at least for me, is radiating is that Manny will not agree to these tests and may be hiding something (Note: not accusing him of PED's, but the suspicion grows).

If you were fighting the biggest fight of your life, and you suspected your opponent of possibly using something illegal to give him an upper hand, would you want to use an independent firm to do testing where your opponent essentially dictates which dates he will be tested? Or, would you want to use the best of the best systems, where both you and your opponent could be tested randomly, and you had full confidence that your opponent could not cheat the system in any way shape or form? I'd take option B.

In regards to the weight class jump comment, both fighters started fighting in the mid 90's (Manny - 95, Floyd - 97), with PacMan starting at about 107 lbs and Floyd about 130 lbs. PacMan fought his last 3 fights at 145, 140 & 145, that is a lot more of a weight differential than what Floyd has done over his career.

One of the agreements in the articles mentioned that if Floyd weighs in 1 lb over the limit, it is a $10 million dollar fine, which is a heckuva concession to make for negotiating a contract, and very well was made in order to make their testing demand.

Both sides are playing hardball, but this fight will happen, too much money is at hand for promoters, fighters and their camps for this not to happen.

There is no doubt that this is a planned "dispute" to build hype and "anger" going into the fight. Expect many more of these "disputes" between now and March.
