I don't get the whole tattoo attraction. I don't like the way my bathroom is decorated ten years later. I cannot imagine having to live the rest of my life with what I thought was fashionable when I was 19.
It's an unbelievable tradeoff, to think of something like what a gold pants charm or a championship/bowl ring ought to mean to an Ohio State football player. For a tattoo?

It's a form of expression and art. I love mine and I know many others who do too. I hate when people rag on tattoos. It's one of the few things that is socially acceptable to attack for no reason. Make fun of someone for their significant-other, style of dress, hairstyle, etc and society will usually turn on the bully. With tattoos, it's an all out assault.
I have no problem with tattoos. I wouldn't get one myself but I have no problem with them. A championship ring is one of a kind though and something you can be really proud of. You don't earn a tattoo.
Maybe that has to to with the seemingly limitless number of completely idiotic and/or horribly- executed tattoos. Your own might be smart and well-done, but you get lumped in with the bad ones.
No need to worry, though—I'm sure that a generation from now newborn babies will be getting tribal tats showing flaming daggers, jagged bloody claw marks, and misspelled inspirational sayings.
OSU had won 5 or 6 (can't remember) straight Big Ten titles in row and we're likely getting rings and gold pants during the entire duration. My idea behind their actions is that they thought because OSU had been so successful in the past, no one could stop them. They'll likely continue to beat Michigan, win the Big Ten and go to BCS bowl games so what does it matter if they sell their stuff just this one time, they'll get it again next year. Entitlement is a dangerous thing...
I agree with your post, I don't know how they can value tats and cash above memorabilia that reflects their personal and team accomplishments. The hard part for them is that they won't have those things to reflect back on when they get older and talk about their days at OSU. No amount of ink and cash can transcend a personal/team accomplishment. You can make an argument for family struggles and needing to do things to help your family but selling essentially what is your memories is not worth it IMO.
I think it's more of a case they just didn't care about the rings; or championships.
Buy it all and melt it down.

...on eBay (HERE) although it seems to be from a collectible site, so who knows if it is related to the Craiglist entry. They want $3,300 for a 2008 Big Ten Championship ring with #99 on it, although I could have sworn Thomas wore #98 on the 2008 Buckeyes (closest number I could think of). Other searches show some Ohio State stuff that has gone up in the past two days from just a few people, so maybe this guy is indeed listing these items there as well.
As I recall, Posey, Pryor, Thomas, Adams and Herron all have to give back over $1,000 or so of what they received anyway, so they not only sold their memories, they were then asked to repay a substantial portion - if not all of it - per NCAA rules. As to BlockM's post, it might very well be that the best thing to do is return these rings to Mordor.
So I'm really, really tempted to buy the rings, taunt buckeye fans online with them for a while, then melt them down into an "M" shaped paperweight.
Or am I being extreme?
