OT: Oscars Open Thread

Once we're done with the basketball game, it'll be time for the Oscars. Here's the place for your picks, comments, and reactions. My picks tonight? - Picture The Hurt Locker Director The Hurt Locker Actor Jeff Bridges Actress Sandra Bullock Supporting Actor Christoph Waltz Support. Actress Mo'Nique Animated Feature Up Art Direction Avatar Cinematography Avatar Costume Design The Young Victoria Documentary The Cove Short Document. The Last Truck Film Editing The Hurt Locker Foreign Film El Secreto Makeup Star Trek Music (score) Up Music (song) The Weary Kind Animated Short Loaf and Death Live Action Short The Door Sound Editing Avatar Sound Mixing The Hurt Locker Visual Effects Avatar Adap. Screenplay Up in the Air Orig. Screenplay The Hurt Locker The battle between the populist money making Avatar and the artsy lowest grossing potential winner with the awards should be interesting, not only for best picture, but Cinematography and Sound categories. Original Screenplay looks like a toss up with Inglourious Basterds, and Foreign Film's The White Ribbon seems like a good bet too, as does the Chinese Movie in Short Documentary. But who ever knows in those small categories? Should be interesting. OK, back to basketball, back here later...

I can't believe Hurt Locker is in the running for best picture. It was pretty good, but I didn't think it was *that* good. Felt like another cavalier action/war movie.

I haven't seen enough movies this year to say if any one was "The Best" but as for the Hurt Locker, man, I don't think I've ever seen a movie so fundamentally nihilistic as that one. I found it very impressive in its portrayal of meaninglessness.

Hey, where's Sexy Backdoor Milfs 4? I thought that was a clear favorite for picture of the year. Oh wait, this isn't the AVN awards thread? I'll see myself out.
