OT: Oscars Open Thread
IMO Argo should win best picture. Very compelling story and script.
Why oh why was this thread created?
"Urban Meyer has really put a strong wall of recruitment around the state of Ohio. No leaks anywhere." -Nobody
When an OP has 36K+ points they can probably post what they want.
I'm trying to push "Hoke's First Miss" off the board.
"I love him, he's a great coach, he's a great mentor, he's a great friend. He's every single thing you want a college coach to be, and he does it flawlessly." -David Molk
I think the only nominated movie I've seen is Django Unchained.
It ain't easy being cheesy
Someone needs to give one to Giuliana Rancic. (Yes, I am watching the E! red carpet pre-show)
any chance we get a recruit to pick us on the red carpet? if not, I'm not watching
3-3-5 til the day I die y'all
I've only seen Argo so I can't make a reasoned argument on the Best Picture Award. I thought Argo was excellent. My wife and I have Django next on our wish list - tickets plus baby sitter make movie night relegated to special occasions.
How were the other Best Picture nominees?
"Hello" post.
I have to say, I'm actually interested for the first time ever this year, because I've actaully seen every major movie that was nominated for all of the big stuff. IMO- Argo all the way- it was the best I saw this year along with Skyfall and Les Miz behind it

Did you see/like zero dark thirty?
I do it for my love of the Streets
I did see it, and I loved it. BUT that's not saying much because I love practically every action movie or movie like that. I read "No Easy Day" (the book about the mission) about a week before I saw the movie, so I was pretty pumped on the whole thing. But yes, I did like it

was an interview with the author of "No Easy Day." Seems the film was pretty accurate.
I didn't really get an action movie vibe from zero dark thirty...I guess it moved too slow for me. I haven't liked very many of the Middle East-based thrillers in recent years (ie hurt locker, syriana), so maybe that has something to do with why I am not anxious to see Argo.
At the same time, I did appreciate zero dark thirty for not being very hollywood. I thought the Osama death scene was perfectly done (didn't make it overly dramatic). But I found the story leading up to it to be boring.

Argo should win tonight.
Daniel Day Lewis wins yet again.
Jennifer Lawrence gets her first statute
Christopher Waltz wins for playing the same character he played in Inglorious Bastards
Anne Hathaway wins for 15 minutes of Les Mis.
I'm going with an inside guess that Riva upsets Lawrence, but she's the safe bet. I think supporting actor is probably De Niro vs. Jones though. But you observation is spot on...I can just see them going "you're playing the same character, but this time he's a GOOD guy..."
Edit: wow, great call!

The Waltz characters are similar because they are supposed to be related. The character in Django is supposed to be the great grandfather of the character in Inglorious. I believe Tarantino is going to make another film with a character of the same lineage in between the two.
Bring back Keith Jackson
I've ever been interested in the oscars bc I've seen almost every movie up for an Oscar this year (gap year before med school...living the life of a retiree)
Unfortunately, one of the only movies I didn't see was Argo. I can't say why, but it just doesn't interest me.
Loved Lincoln.

What is everyone wearing for the Oscars. I sporting a Michigan hockey t shirt by Adidas and jeans by Banana Republic.
I'm wearing a t-shirt by something called "Blue 84" that says "Sugar Bowl Champs 2012", old socks, and the shortest and oldest pair of gym shorts I own.
Go Blue. Greetings from SEC country.
Ragged gym shorts and a ralph lauren t-shirt. Sporting an elegant, yet casual, $30 Timex on the wrist.

I'm wearing nut huggers and a wife beater, flip flops and a smile on my face
We are the dead.
Who Seth MacFarlane offends first.

Sock puppet "Flight" was pretty good.
CoE Class of 2007
Was it me or did Sally Fields mouth that never happened. I don't have DVR
I want to play Unicorn Apocalypse on my Samsung Galaxy S 3.
I like Wreck-It-Ralph over Brave, but both were pretty decent.
HAIL.
Brave. I thought it was a very uninspired story and pretty boring. I really liked wreck it Ralph

The best animated film I've seen (for kids) is Ponyo.
Disagree on everything you said about Brave. Movie was fantastic.

A god damn kilt. What a dope. That actually made me post here
Schwing
Also, I didn't really enjoy Les Mis very much. Everything was good -- singing, scenes, costumes, cast, etc. but I just could not get behind the story.
HAIL.
I negged this thread because, as much as I like movies, the Oscars are stupid and insufferable.
Then I had a crisis of conscience and realized that if I didn't want people negging soccer threads because they think soccer is stupid, then I shouldn't neg something just because I don't like it.
And then I wrote a post on it, because I have nothing else to contribute to this thread.

The other guy who negged it is posting in the thread....

I think Lincoln wins at least one or two, but I'll be watching The Walking Dead so I guess I'll have to check here to see who wins what
