OT: Oscars Open Thread
February 24th, 2013 at 9:04 PM ^
I negged this thread because, as much as I like movies, the Oscars are stupid and insufferable.
Then I had a crisis of conscience and realized that if I didn't want people negging soccer threads because they think soccer is stupid, then I shouldn't neg something just because I don't like it.
And then I wrote a post on it, because I have nothing else to contribute to this thread.
February 24th, 2013 at 9:18 PM ^
The other guy who negged it is posting in the thread....
February 24th, 2013 at 9:30 PM ^
My thumb is clumsy on the phone when I switch over to full-website mode to upvote posts I like and check the points on my own posts like the narcissistic man that I am.
February 24th, 2013 at 9:33 PM ^
Early on I was unnecessarily dicky to you in one of your early posts overblowing one thing you said for no reason. So I wasn't offended, just curious it wasn't one of the guys who said "WHY?!"
February 24th, 2013 at 10:29 PM ^
I totally forgot about that. Now that you mention it...MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA
February 24th, 2013 at 9:29 PM ^
Never be ashamed of what you like, nor proudly ignorant of what you don't like.
February 24th, 2013 at 9:06 PM ^
that's not all of the avengers. Where's Scarlett Jo?
February 24th, 2013 at 9:08 PM ^
Or Thor?
February 24th, 2013 at 9:10 PM ^
probably filming Thor 2.
The pictures coming from production look awesome.
February 24th, 2013 at 9:18 PM ^
Very true.
Big year for comic book movies, too: Thor 2, Iron Man 3, The Wolverine, Man of Steel...I suppose Sin City 2, to a certain extent, as well
February 24th, 2013 at 11:47 PM ^
ScarJo's doing Cat on a Hot Tin Roof on Broadway.
February 24th, 2013 at 9:08 PM ^
Hey edger winter is crying on stage
February 24th, 2013 at 9:12 PM ^
when the music drowned out the guy who wouldn't end his acceptance speech
February 24th, 2013 at 9:15 PM ^
especially with the Jaws theme. Best STFU song ever.
February 24th, 2013 at 9:19 PM ^
a STFU band to accompany me whenever I leave the house
February 24th, 2013 at 9:38 PM ^
That's actually probably going to be the most controversial part of the night. There's a huge VFX protest going on because of the industry's increasing reliance on VFX and decreasing compensation for VFX companies. Basically, tons of VFX houses are going bankrupt despite the industry relying on them more and more, including the company that just won the Oscar for visual effects. So it seems really crass that the guy was about to bring up the fact that the Oscar winning company was no more, only to get cut off.
I don't think that's why they cut him off, but it's going to cause something of a hubbub tomorrow, probably.
February 24th, 2013 at 9:39 PM ^
Biffed the big point one.
Edit: and my first one wrong after the first pick....Innocente. Had Mondays at Racine. Oh, well.
February 24th, 2013 at 9:24 PM ^
Zero down 30 movie of year...Jessica chastain best actess... Best acter D D Lewis
February 24th, 2013 at 9:32 PM ^
Zero Dark Thirty was better
February 24th, 2013 at 9:29 PM ^
It's pretty bad that I could name every movie each of those clips was taken from... I may have an addiction (and a box set of every pre 2008 Bond film on VCR)
February 24th, 2013 at 9:30 PM ^
This is the Oscars with James Bond!
February 25th, 2013 at 8:44 AM ^
I was hoping they would have brought all the actors who have portrayed James Bond on stage. That would have been cool and considering that a couple of those guys are getting up there in age, there won't be another opportunity like this again.
Overall, given all the hype they threw at honoring 50 years of James Bond, the tribute came up short for me.
February 24th, 2013 at 9:31 PM ^
Could have done so much more with the Bond tribute. Should have shelled out for all the available bond-theme singers to do a medley.
February 24th, 2013 at 9:37 PM ^
*sigh* Silver Linings Playbook doesn't stand a damn chance
February 24th, 2013 at 9:38 PM ^
It was just a bad year for it to compete. So many good films.
February 24th, 2013 at 9:51 PM ^
Was Jennifer Garner crying?
February 24th, 2013 at 10:05 PM ^
Still bitter about being voted off American Idol.
February 24th, 2013 at 10:09 PM ^
Then Garner has been weepy all night, with her hubby's film probably winning best picture.
February 24th, 2013 at 10:30 PM ^
Wow. Totally misread which last name followed Jennifer. Hudson was obviously who I was thinking of. Read the comment above and jumped right in...MUST READ MORE CAREFULLY.
February 24th, 2013 at 10:01 PM ^
damn, Shows over. Hudson just set the stage on fire with her diva level performance.
February 24th, 2013 at 10:03 PM ^
All these musicals...so much subtext...
February 24th, 2013 at 10:04 PM ^
when she was eliminated.
February 24th, 2013 at 10:04 PM ^
these actors can't sing
February 24th, 2013 at 10:05 PM ^
Gollum guy singing Les Mis.
February 24th, 2013 at 10:06 PM ^
Performing?
February 24th, 2013 at 11:05 PM ^
Sexual Chocolate.
February 24th, 2013 at 10:08 PM ^
yeah, probably shouldn't have ended with One Day More after Jennifer Hudson.
February 24th, 2013 at 10:17 PM ^
Woah, never seen a tie for an Oscar before.
February 24th, 2013 at 10:18 PM ^
How can you have a tie?? And how could I have picked neither?!?
February 24th, 2013 at 10:22 PM ^
I am going to use the Jaws theme in my classroom to get my students to STFU.
February 24th, 2013 at 10:22 PM ^
I think MacFarlane is hilarious. His John Wilkes Booth joke was funny as hell, and not one person laughed.
February 24th, 2013 at 11:31 PM ^
I love his stuff but I don't think he's been all that great tonight.
February 24th, 2013 at 10:24 PM ^
Kinda irked Paul Thomas Anderson isn't nominated for best director for The Master, and surprised The Master isn't nominated for best pic.
February 24th, 2013 at 10:25 PM ^
Anne Hathaway does not look good with short hair.
February 24th, 2013 at 10:26 PM ^
Agreed. She should have kept the Catwoman look.
February 24th, 2013 at 10:28 PM ^
Sally Fields shoulda won Best Supporting Actress.
February 24th, 2013 at 10:30 PM ^
Also how the fuck do you have a tie with an awards show?
February 24th, 2013 at 10:33 PM ^
You have got to be kidding me, Argo was not Oscar worthy in any way, shape or form
February 24th, 2013 at 10:37 PM ^
It was a decently entertaining movie that stretched or fabricated the true story it was based on. I'm not sure how in the world it beats out any of those others for best editing, or how it got a best pic nod over The Master.
