OT- Osama Bin Laden is Dead

Submitted by BiSB on

Apparently something big is happening in the world.  We have NO idea what.  But I suggest you get to a television.

The only thing they have said is that it is "national security related."

EDIT: Twitter is abuzz with a rumor that we got Bin Laden.  Waiting for TomVH to confirm. Also, If this is too political, feel free to delete.  But I thought this might generate some interest.

EDIT II: CNN confirms: the United States has the body of Osama Bin Laden.  War on Terror Muppets.

EDIT III: Thread locked to prevent the inevitable political flame war from escalating. [ZL]

But it's a big deal for the president to have a live address on a sunday night, at 10:30 no less.

And slight politics/funny: Obama's address will interrupt the Apprentice

This comment wins the internet for the week.  Outstanding!

Edit:  How does this comment earn the "Trolling" rating?  I was merely congratulating on a great post.  Just curious.  This new rating system (rather than simple up- or down-voting) is silly, IMHO.

If I were Obama I would be very, very grateful right now. Given the political climate at this point, coupled with impending campaigning for 2012 and the mess that the budget situation was, he should be extremely happy that he now has this new issue to point at.

Especially considering that it's basically a free gift; it doesn't sound like this was part of an Obama-specific initiative, so it looks like he got bin Laden on a platter without risking any political capital.

Obama is golden compared to what the neocons/conservatives/teaparty/repubs are putting out there in 'leadership' roles. Shoot, Trump had the best numbers of the potential candidates over the last few weeks. What a sorry state of affairs...

I see your point, but the question isn't whether Obama wanted bin Laden dead. The question is "did Obama take extraordinary measures to come to this conclusion that Clinton, McCain, Romney, ect. wouldn't?"

I tend to think no, hence my feeling that this is a gift for Obama.

There was definitely not a line crossed. Saying that policies regarding bin Laden would be roughly the same under any of the major party candidates isn't saying anything about anyones values, and actually is closer to your "America is awesome" sentiment than a flame war. Everyone who had a realistic shot at being elected wanted bin Laden dead, that was the point of the whole post.

People need to be careful even saying the words "Obama" or "McCain" or any politician's name, but in a thread involving a presidential speech, a war and a terrorist, there is going to be some analysis going on. Until someone says something offensive about someone else's beliefs, I don't see any harm in it.

The only things they are saying is that it is not related to Libya and it is a national security matter of global implications.

I think OBL is a good guess.

In any event, this is extraordinarily rare that the President speaks like this... has to be something big.
