This happened in my hometown.
I never thought Ramapo would get a mention on sportscenter.
A sad statistic. One of the most "not-talked-about" crimes in the world.
What does "most not-talked-about" even mean?

A person is guilty of rape in the third degree when:
(a) He engages in sexual intercourse with another person who is incapable of consent because he or she is mentally retarded;
(b) Being twenty-one (21) years old or more, he or she engages in sexual intercourse with another person less than sixteen (16) years old;
(c) Being twenty-one (21) years old or more, he or she engages in sexual intercourse with another person less than eighteen (18) years old and for whom he or she provides a foster family home as defined in KRS 600.020; or
(d) Being a person in a position of authority or position of special trust, as defined in KRS 532.045, he or she engages in sexual intercourse with a minor under sixteen (16) years old with whom he or she comes into contact as a result of that position
It saddens me that (c) is necessary.
I served on a jury for a [c] case. The girl was very young. It was five days of hell - sickening - one of the hardest things I've ever had to endure. All I could say at the end (after we convicted the adoptive father) is God bless the judges, attorneys, social workers and law enforcement officers who have to deal with this on a daily basis.
This isn't the NY statute, which is what he's charged under. This is a Kentucky statute (hence KRS - Kentucky Revised Statutes). NY statute posted above.

Assuming the best case scenario - that he had no idea she was under 18 and was actively lied to about that fact, how much less do you think of him?
I've decided, as a Giants fan, that I'm going to try and put this on the level of his crack offenses in my mind, assuming a) he didn't hit her and b) he really thought she was 18+. Which is to say, I'll think less of him, but ideally more as a "there he goes again" issue than a "jesus this guy is sick, I feel bad that I loved him" issue.
You are really, really stretching to rationalize the man-crush here.
LT may be anywhere on the spectrum of humanity from utterly despicable to mere drug-addled asshole, but if you have any evidence that he's better than that I'd like to hear it.
He was a truly awesome football player, but I'm not sure why you're working so hard to believe that he's not a failure as a human being apart from that.

Drug addled asshole seems appropriate to me. I'm no expert, but the slide from getting in trouble with cocaine to getting in trouble with crack is sort of a statement in of itself.
He's a bad guy at this point, no matter how said it makes me to say that as someone who loved him when I was a kid.
Guy was sent to jail in 94 for manslaughter and was released in 08.

Did I read a different article than the rest of you? The first sentence said she's 16.
The article said that she was 15 when she ran away, but now she is 16.
This is what I took away from that article. LT was a ferrocious linebacker that revolutionized his position. He also had sex with a girl who was either an old 15 or a young sixteen, it depends on whether you're a glass half full or half empty kind of guy. In life LT has been a fantastic fuck up which in no way outweights his acheivements on the football field which include 10 Pro Bowls, NFL MVP, Defensive MVP, and 132 sacks. Also the sack total should have 9.5 sacks added to it which should end up evening itself out in lite of recent events.

Apparently Rasheed Davis drove her to a hotel, hit and kicked her, and made her have sex with LT. LT paid her $300, which she gave to Davis.
just an update
I grew up 10 minutes from Giants stadium. Had LT's poster on my wall. He was my 2nd favorite Giant as a kid after Bavaro. When he kept getting busted for coke it always made me shake my head but I still liked the guy. I want to hear the whole story before I cast my judgement on this but it stll blows regardless.
My wife watches those reality shows like Intervention. Monday there was a show on A&E called Fame and Recovery with LT and Tara Conner. It caught my eye briefly because she was hot and was talking about doing BAD things, then they went to LT talking about how much he hated himself because he was letting his kids and family down.
How ironic that he does this shit this week. Maybe he made her watch it just so she would know who the old guy was?
i'm hoping he and her pimp go to jail. don't think the pimp stands much chance, but i bet lt puts up a fight before he loses his virginity. serve them both right....
