The funniest part is that they put down a coat of primer first.
OT: Oregon State paints practice field blue to prepare for Boise St.
Weird. Funny. And more than slightly OT. But still weird and funny.
Right you are. Changed to OT.
How will this help?
Just try to give yourself any mental edge you can...
I can feel it in the air
This sounds almost like an Onion article
That is funny. People make way too much out of the blue turf. It doesn't show well on TV, but it looks better in person. Also, they replaced the turf this year, so it should look better on TV.
Some people say that they cannot take Boise seriously because of the turf. It is kind of odd, but that is their tradition. They have had it for over twenty years, which is longer than they had it green (and all of the time that they have been in 1A). Asking BSU to get rid of The Blue is like asking Michigan to get rid of our wings. It is part of their identity.
Also, I wonder if the teams that whine about the advantage of blue jerseys on blue turf also complain when they have to play MSU or another team with green jerseys on green turf.
Personally, I despise the blue turf. The only thing it can do is increase home-field advantage. An analogy for your baseball players out there is having a team paint their centerfield fence white (rather than black). You can call the turf "cosmetic" but it definitely creates and unfair advantage, in my humble opinion. Plus, it looks terrible on TV (unwatchable).
Actually, the biggest thing is does is increase Boise's brand identification. You instantly know when you're watching a game televised there.
If the Beavers win this game look for a bunch of future Boise State opponents to do the same. If they lose then look for the laundry department to ask for raises.
I just wanted to say good luck; We're all counting on you.
And don't call me Shirley.
At what point does Boise State stop becoming spoilers of the BCS?
When they join a non-terrible conference or play a legitimate schedule not filled with huge busts (VT).
Hopefully never, until it is spoiled completely. We need a playoff. It would turn December NFL into an afterthought.
and their athletic department's money. They are giving the blue turf WAY too much thought and credit. Just go out and play to your game plan and good things will happen.
... it's a waste of a private donor's money, as explained in the article. Hell, if someone gave me $8000 to paint my lawn pink, I'd probably do it just to pocket the difference.
either way it is a waste of a potential $8000 donation to the university/athletic department.
the Blue turf, but I never honestly believed that it really had an impact on the game. I mean, given the right conditions, normal grass can be fairly blue.
I'll be more interested in how long eastern Washington can keep that red turf before somebody sets fire to it.
Here that is, by the way, in their first game on it last weekend. turns out I was right. The camera can't deal with it. In one shot, it's just as red as the uniforms, in the next, it's practically a dark pink.
Wow a complete waste of time and money IMO. Hope for their sake it works.
Painting their practice field is sorta stupid, but at least it shows that BSU is not going to "sneak up" on anybody anymore. It looks like they are going to now be treated like a "rivalry game" opponent by major teams now.
and budget cuts and you get department budgets slashed, prisons being closed, services for the elderly being dumped. . . I know we need our bread and circuses, but crikee.
The prep work is the most important part of the job. Any painter knows that.
Word on the Street is that they actually hired smurfs to run their scout team. Jokey's a pretty sneaky QB.
of Smurfette cheerleaders, right?
Is she merely cheering on the sidelines or did they hire her to do the place kicking?
But you've gotta watch out and have protection. Yeah, she's THAT cheerleader.
"As soon as we got out to the parking lot, she started smurfin' me. Right smurfin' there."
