OT: Oregon player given the boot for Facebook post

Submitted by ldoublee on
Wide Receiver, Jamare Holland was dismissed from the Oregon football team after making an ill-adivsed post on his Facebook page. It notes that he has had some issues in the past and, reading between the lines, he's a player that the coaches aren't going to be sad to see go. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4934763

Ok, any of you creepy facebook stalking types know what he posted? According to the espn article it was because of some "expletive-filled post on the player's Facebook page." They say in a later post (which I assume means not the post that got him in trouble) Holland wrote: "I wish I could block whites as friends and only have blacks LOL, cause apparently I'm misunderstood." I'm just morbidly curious here.

It seems like Oregon is coming off the rails but it is stuff like this that never used to make news. Reporter: Can you elaborate on the Jamare situation? Coach: He violated a team rule and was dismissed from the team. Next question. ....and that was it.

It seems like just days ago Brian was outing our own Marques Slocum with his awesome rant off of myspace, which appeared to be the beginning of the end for our dear departed D-lineman. (I miss you Fuck Lion!) But I digress... Here are the awesome Facebook quotes: [EDIT, it appears others found good links, but if you dont want to run to other sites here are the awesome quotes] Jamere Holland: how the fuck you kick kinko off the team...on some weak shit, niggas always faded he slipped up but ive been slippn up, and I'm still here, that shit weak buff cuh could have done damage for the ducks, that shit is weak, weak ass fuck, quote me AND THIS AWESOME FOLLOWUP: Jamere Holland: chillin thinking of another status to fuck with the readers heads, I wish I could block whites as friends and only have blacks LOL, cause apparently I'm misunderstood AND THE AWESOME FOLLOWUP FOLLOWUP: Holland booted from team for violating team rules

...it's obvious that Holland is not an English major. I hope he catches on with a D-2 school that brings him up to at least a ninth-grade writing level before he "graduates." This does, though, beg a few questions: What are they "teaching" Holland in classes at Oregon? Is he actually taking and passing his own exams? Do they even make players bother to go to class there? If I were on the coaching staff, I would be much more concerned with the lack of grammatical skills than the content of the post. If I were recruiting against them, I would show a copy of Holland's post to every parent of every recruit for which I was battling them. If I were in the Oregon administration, I would have the coach in my office this morning explaining how this kid got this far along in school without being able to coherently read and write.

Jamere Holland would like to apologize that he doesn't live up to your impeccably educated standards. On this thing called Facebook, it's usually accepted among college and high school students that there's no need to write at a dissertation level. I know, I know, PREPOSTEROUS!! How dare we! Seriously, I laugh everytime someone goes on a grammar high horse around here. Being able to write thesis statements isn't as important as the status quo would have you think..... Oh, he didn't capitalize the word "chillin"!!!! He forgot a 'g' at the end!!! THE HUMANITY OF IT ALL!

...is NOT your friend. I think someone here correctly stated last week that just because you were capable of posting something to YouTube didn't mean that you should. Facebook is best left to the 12 year old girls that it's intended for (yes, I know it was started for college kids). I know of two people that were eliminated from consideration for a job because of Facebook posts and I've heard stories of colleges Facebook-stalking applicants (though I have my doubts of the how feasible this really is). If you absolutely, positively HAVE to have one, set it to private and realize that explitive-filled rants are best left to XBox live sessions and sports-related message boards where you're relatively anonymous.

Star running back LeMichael James chokes out his gf, but he's still on the team. Kiki Alonso gets a DUI but he's still on the team b/c he contributes on the field. Charges are going to be brought up against star QB Jeremiah Masoli for larceny or burglary, but he's still on the team b/c he's the star QB. LaGarrette Blount was brought back to the team all of a sudden, immediately after the team was upset by Stanford. Blount of course helped Oregon down the stretch secure a birth and play in the Rose Bowl. Jamere Holland was never arrested or did anything illegal. He never sucker punched anyone on television. Yet, he gets thrown under the bus because he's a non-contributer to the program. Shady. Chip Kelly is a shady coach.

He wishes he could "block whites from his page"....Good job for booting this loser Oregon. I wonder if they walked up to his locker with that Oregon sledgehammer and fucking pulverized it? I doubt it, but it woulda been a whole lot cooler if they did.

Feel free to exercise your right to assault an opposing player and get reinstated but don't you dare use your right to free speech. I don't much like what this young man had to say but are not universities the alleged last bastion of free speech and would an incredible transgression of this nature not be better handled with support for this young man around, say, cultural sensitivity? If I'm a parent with a kid recruited by Oregon I'd be wondering just what the hell the standards are up there.
