Wow, what a tale of two halves. It's like they swapped jerseys at halftime.

This is Hungary's fifth trip to the medal round: they're 0-8 and have never medaled.
They're the Minnesota Vikings of world handball.
(To be fair, every one of those 4th place finishes has been above expectations--the only team that was thought to have any chance to medal was in Seoul and even that was probably a long shot.)

Anyone else getting sick of him? If he was American, we would call him Terrell Owens. Plus, going after Carl Lewis like he did was in pretty poor taste, especially for a guy who plans on living off endorsements from American companies.
Maybe I'm just cynical, but I think you really have to suspend disbelief to think the Jamaican sprinters are all clean.

Bolt's antics don't bother me that much, but I definitely have suspicions about whether he's clean. The fact that he and his two training partners from Kingston just happened to be the three fastest men in the world in the 200 meters definitely gives me pause.

Gotta give Bolt benefit of doubt at this point.

I was kind of happy to hear an athlete speak his mind instead of worrying about his endorsements...although I'm skeptical that any successful sprinter is clean, Jamaican or otherwise.

Pole vaulting looks incredibly dangerous. How/why people get into that sport, I have no idea. It's compelling viewing, though.

This is interesting. Lavillenie already has the gold medal in the pole vault, but he wants to keep going to set the world record. I like his attitude - give the crowd its money's worth!

It looks very weird to see non-English-speaking countries have their name in English on their uniforms. Germany's, for instance, actually says "Germany" and not "Deutschland." I wouldn't like that if I were German.

I noticed that also. At first I wondered if that had to do with it being the host country's language, but then I saw "Italia" for Italy and "Espana" for Spain, so I guess some countries are just choosing the English name of their country.
It would be very strange to see our guys competing with like "Etats-Unis" or "Vereinigte Staaten" on their jerseys.
