OT: Olympics Day 12, Competition 11, with Spoiler type substance

Submitted by M-Wolverine on

Do major events seems to be starting earlier today? Looks like they passed out another gymnastic medal. Porter qualified for the semi in the 100m hurdles, like his wife did yesterday. USA women's basketball killing Canada.  Great volleyball game between China and Japan just finished.  Yesterday was really slow, but it seems like there's a lot going on early this morning.

Soccer starts soon;

Tricolores (Mexico) v. Blue Samurai (Japan).

Canarinhos (Brazil) v. Taeguk Warriors (ROK).

Brazil still the favorites; no team outside of the real Spanish National team can match the firepower Brazil brings to the table. As much as Neymar is a diving flopper, he's an amazing player to watch

in the post game interview he completely owned up to making a mistake, said its a team game and even coaches can make errors in judgments, in those instances you have to look to your teammates to pick u up, which they did ... not an exact quote, but the gist. relatively classy...

We'll call it even.

Good to see us finally medal in some of the individual events.  Thought we were just going to give all the easy medals to the Chinese.

Speaking of...big final four match in Beach Volleyball with May/Walsh vs. the Chinese.  With the US and #1 Brazil on the other side, this is like having 4 1 seeds in March Madness make it to the last weekend.

Apparently they've added hide and seek to the olympic games. Seven Cameroon olympic athletes have disappeared in London, most likely to avoid returning to their homeland where the unemplyment rate is above 30%. The North Korean athletes after hearing the news: 'You can do that?'

The Americans were getting killed, then come back to win the first one. Then seem to have the second one completely in control and are rolling, only for it to be tight.

So in a perfect world the US beats Brazil (unlikely) and we have an all US match-up for the gold-silver. Then Brazil can beat China for the bronze. (Though Xue Chen isn't bad to look at for an amazon).

For the diehard rowers,

The Brits did themselves proud with four gold medals, 2 silver medals and 3 bronze medals, including gold medals for women's pair, women's double sculls, women's lightweight double, and mens four.

The NZL team had 3 golds in men's pair, men's double sculls and men's single scull, along with 1 silver medal and 5 bronze medals in other events.

The USA had one gold medal in the women's eight, a fine event to win, along with 2 bronze medals.

The Germans had 2 gold medals and 1 silver, including golds in the mens's eight and mens' quadruple sculls.

The Aussies got shut of the gold medals, but they had 3 silver and 2 medals.

FYI in rowing, sculls involve rowing with two blades, one on each side.  Regular rowing involves a single oar on one side.  Not a sport for the faint of heart.  Just try a concept 2 rower sometime.  It beats bicycling anyday!

South Korea taking the game to Brazil in the soccer semis midway through the first period. Korea very unlucky after having a ball cleared off the line and a player kicked in the head by a Brazilian defender in the box.
