OT: OL Jake Fruhmorgen Leaves Florida

Submitted by mjw on

In a bizarre development, former Clemson OL Jake Fruhmorgen is now also former Florida OL Jake Fruhmorgen.  Michigan was considered a possible destination for him when he transferred earlier this year.  Oddly, Naked Shark Guy just officially welcomed him earlier this week.  Apparently, Fruhmorgen is quitting football.  Not sure what happened here, but best of luck to Jake.

Week? Don't you think there is probably an issue that he left Clemson, visited several schools, chose one, enrolled and then quit he second team. All of this in a matter of a few months. If you are right (very low probability), then it is bullshit that this kid wasted the time of the Florida coaches and a scholarship. There is no way a kid without issues would do that. Whatever the case, best of luck to the kid and his future.

he has been thinking about leaving football, but thought maybe a change of scenery would be good for him. Got to Florida and started working out and realized no I really don't want to play the game anymore.  Why do you feel it has to be some serious issue with the kid.

He's played the game a long time, many players come to this conclusion and walk away and move on with their lives. Don't think he really wasted anyones time and I would be willing to bet Florida doesn't feel like it was a waste.

I mean you can speculate all you want, but all the Florida insiders are saying that he's got some pretty serious mental health issues going on right now. He's stepping away from football  and school at least for the time being.

He was an undergrad transfer anyways, so he was going to have to sit out this year regardless. Seems like a good time to get one's head straight.

Dabo Swinney raved about the guy's character and work ethic. He transfered to FL to be closer to home, but it sounds like that wasn't enough. Hope everything works out for the dude.

I hate this commercial and how many times I've had to suffer through that reference. I mean, yeah, the first couple of times were funny. The next 5,000 have left me considering legal action against State Farm for unwarranted pain and suffering.

I got rear-ended in a triple car pile-up. The guy behind the guy that hit me, or, in other words, the perp? Name was Jake. His insurance? State Farm. And I swear to all of you on everything sacred, he was wearing a red shirt and you guessed it, Khakis.

Coach McElwain enters the locker room and puts his hand on Jake's shoulder.

Welcome to the Gators, son.  Now Jake, like any new player there's a bit of a hazing ritual you'll be expected to go through. Helps build team spirit.  It's nothing that I haven't done my own damned self, and hell - I enjoyed doing it.

Anyway, see that pretty shark over there?  The one with the "come hither" eyes?  You'll want to mount that shark from behind ... Jake?  JAKE?  WHERE ARE YOU GOING?!?

IIRC from his recruitment, Fruhmorgen's dad played at Alabama and then with the Dolphins in the NFL. I was surprised when he committed to Clemson in the first place, but it would be a little tough to walk away from football entirely when your dad was an NFLer.

He has a degree he was able to get at no cost to him and he contributed to a nation championship winning team. Maybe he just figured e had accomplished all he wanted to in football and ready for the next chapter in his life/
