OT: Oklahoma loses to Okie St

Anyone else think those Bob Stoops to Michigan rumors are about to pick up?

that they've seen the outcome.  What are the odds of a punt return there for a TD?  What are the odds of a block?

What are the odds of a play where your offense can run almost ten seconds off the playclock with under a minute to go?  Because that's what a punt does for you.

That's how you can fucking punt that ball again.  It was the right call, and I guarantee you Jim Harbaugh punts that ball again too.

No but it's on YOU if you over rate a team or coach based on the results of 1 game where clearly 1 team was very motivated and the other wasn't. It's equivocal to saying NJIT's coach should be offered a job based on today's result. My eyes and the results tell me Oklahoma and Stoops have been trending steadily downward since the beating they took from USC in the BCS Title game 9 years ago. They were buoyed by Sam Bradford's outstanding Heisman career for a couple years, and by Mack Brown's even more rapid decline in their marquee rivalry. Obviously Stoops> Hoke, but he's maybe 5th on my wish list. 1) Harbaugh (duh) 2) Mullen 3) Mora Jr. 4) Tom Herman. Then I guess Stoops joins a list of guys that aren't coming but I'd want to hear it from them rather than assume (Patterson, Saban, Urbs, etc) Hell Till Zelechick!

but you seriously have him behind Tom Herman?

That's inexplicable to me.

Other than that, we're pretty similar.

I have (and I'm not buying Payton, not with the contract he just signed in New Orleans) 1) Jim Harbaugh, 2) Dan Mullen, 3) Les Miles, 4) Bob Stoops, 5) Jim Mora, 6) Troy Calhoun... and past 6, it's like a third string QB, if you get down that far, does it really matter anymore?

I still think Bob Stoops is a good football coach, even if this season wasn't a huge success for OU.

Wait - do you watch teams other than Michigan? Did you watch other Bama games last year? Did you watch Oklahoma other than that Bowl game? I root against Bama every time they're not playing osu, but it was still pretty clear to me Saban didn't do much to get his team ready for that game. And understanding the role motivation plays in the bowl season is how it's possible to make a nice little killing betting them. Oklahoma bought me a lovely steak dinner and excellent bottle of wine that night!

Congratulations to Oklahoma St. They will now be 18-84-7 against Oklahoma all time.

Just 66 more years to go until they tie it up fellas!

Maybe Stoops and Harbaugh will both be co-HCs???!?!?!?

And another TCU "quality win" goes down the toilet.

Best case is they will have beaten 1 top 25 team.

OU fans are pissed right now, judging by facebooks statuses of my OU friends. I don't think OU fans understand how valuable Stoops is to them. But hey, if they don't want him anymore, and if he is sick and tired of the way fans treat him there, that's fine! He can come to Michigan. I'd be thrilled with that hire!

I see a coach with an overhyped team from the preseason (based off of a win against Bama in the Sugar Bowl) having a slightly down year who still got to 8 wins anyway. Three of the 4 losses were by a total of 8 points. Today was practically a win, if not for the AWFUL special teams breakdown (ironically, had they declined the running-into-the-kicker penalty, which they should have honestly, they would have likely won)

But OU fans see a bunch of dumbstupids who deserve to be fired now, apparently. I don't think they know what it's like to watch a team that really sucks. They are spoiled by their success.

Stoops is the one guy I would consider taking even before Harbaugh has a chance to give us a solid answer.

Stoops is a good coach, no doubt, but he had an awful brain fart on that penalty.  There was no reason to accept it.  He'd just pinned OKSU 90 yards away with under a minute and he chose to punt again?!?

If I were an OU fan, I wouldn't be calling for his head or anything, but I'd definitely be upset about that decision.

No doubt that was an awful brain fart, and OU fans havea  right to be upset about that decision for sure. It happens to the best. The only solace for OU fans is there is no functional difference between an 8-win season and a 9-win season, except for losing to your in-state rival and having to hear about it all year round (though OSU doesn't have much to brag about either...they needed an improbable comeback victory at OU to even become bowl eligible.)

I don't understand what's so wrong with punting it. If you don't punt it OSU gets it at midfield with a minute left in the game. They should have shanked it out of bounds but they should have punted it.

No, the issue is that they punted once - very successfully - and inexplicably accepted a running-into-the-kicker penalty on that play, causing them to punt a second time - which was run back for a TD.

There was no reason at all to accept that penalty.  They would have forced OKSU to drive 90 yards in under a minute if they'd declined it.

Main plus of Stoops over Harbaugh would be that each season wouldn't involve endless questions re whether he will jump the nfl. Stoops would be here to stay. That counts.

We should find out on Monday if the target is a coach whose team played this weekend.  If nothing happens, then the Harbaugh rumors will look even more legitimate.  With recruits dropping left and right, I can't imagine Michigan "taking their time" if their target was available last week.

If they are playing sound "poker," that would take a lot of names discussed here off of the table.  Fortunately, it also makes JH the most likely candidate.

I do not want him. I don't even want a coach. Cancel the damn program in Harbaugh doesn't come. Tell Harbaugh Michigan football will fold and never play again if does not come.

The OU fans right now sound very much like us circa 2004-2007. If you want to wish away a guy who may not quite be Saban in the championship column but still wins a hell of a lot more than he loses, and want to find out if the grass is greener, be my guest...

Names like Addazio and Schiano are being thrown around.  Wouldn't you be thrilled to get Stoops instead?  My big worry now is that TCU or Baylor won't have enough "quality wins" and OSU will get into the playoff.  That thought makes me want to cry.  I cannot STAND the thought of them getting in.  Michigan being awful is so painful, but OSU being good on top of it makes it so much worse.
