OT: Ohio State Recruit Arrested While on Official Visit
Four-star wide receiver James Robinson was arrested last weekend by Columbus police while on an official visit to Ohio State and charged with one count of possession of marijuana, according to Franklin County Municipal Court records.
Robinson, a 6-foot-4, 207-pound wideout from Lakeland, Florida, was taken into custody at an off-campus apartment on the night of Jan. 21 and released later that evening. He returned to Florida the next day, but is scheduled to appear in court for arraignment on March 1.

to the osu player that was showing him around... you notice he didnt get arrested..... or he left the kid at a party with some dope....wtf!!!!!!
January 28th, 2017 at 5:02 PM ^
No Michigan fan in his right mind would be a cop in CBus.
January 29th, 2017 at 8:18 PM ^
...I hope he'd know better than to blow his cover on something this weak.
January 28th, 2017 at 9:41 AM ^
But the kid wouldn't take the hint so they gave him a bag of dope and then called the Columbus cops.
Problem solved.
January 28th, 2017 at 9:44 AM ^
That'd be hilarious especially because he wasn't even committed to them. We REALLY don't wnat you here.
January 28th, 2017 at 10:15 AM ^
WOTS is that he used the wrong salad fork and talked with his mouth full. You're never getting into the Circle of Trust with that kind of behavior.
January 28th, 2017 at 11:51 AM ^
So that was truly an uncommitable offer.
January 28th, 2017 at 10:31 AM ^
I've heard this kid is a real high priority recruit.
January 28th, 2017 at 10:44 AM ^
didn't happen because Meyer wanted Robinson instead. Hilarious if true.
January 28th, 2017 at 10:57 AM ^
Let me guess, rumor came out of 11 Warriors? Yea OSU "passed" on a top 50 receiver for this kid? Doubt it.
January 28th, 2017 at 11:28 AM ^
It's not at all implausible.
January 28th, 2017 at 12:48 PM ^
When someone posted one of the final rankings a week ago I swear I looked at one and Martin was in the overall top 50. Don't remember which site it was. That's what I was referring to.
Also, my original comment was supposed to come off as a sarcastic "suuuure OSU fans, your team is passing on him" when really they just can't get him
January 28th, 2017 at 1:14 PM ^
Yes. On 247 (I think, at least one site) Martin is a high 4 star. His rankings are not super close together.
January 28th, 2017 at 2:39 PM ^
greg oden-younger brother-disease.... he looks 30 years old -- and gold teeth... he belonged at ohio...
January 28th, 2017 at 12:05 PM ^
We also "passed" on Martin when we thought we were getting Nico Collins. Pretty much the same situation.
January 28th, 2017 at 12:51 PM ^
Nahhh, they were trying to weed him out.
January 28th, 2017 at 3:09 PM ^
they should have put a lid on it.
January 28th, 2017 at 4:46 PM ^
I was thinking it was more along the lines of forcing the kid to be in Columbus. All of a sudden he has to be at the police department every other week to meet his probation officer and other terms in Columbus... so hey you might as well commit to the university since you have to be here for your probation anyway !!
January 28th, 2017 at 9:41 AM ^
- Starters are completely off-limits from police
- Second string given a stern glance
- Practice squad given a verbal warning
- 5-star recruits are given second string treatment
- 4-star and below recruits ticketed with Minor in Possession (a misdemeanor)
Clearly, Robinson was with current members of the team.

1. Make Sure that You Don't Suck
http://brown-snout.com/humor/the_jocks_guide_to_getting_arrested.pdf
Before you go out and committing crimes, it's important to first make sure you're at least slightly better than the 30 or 40 guys the team's assistant GM could instantly pull off some practice squad to replace you. Otherwise you will become fodder for the team's zero-tolerance policy. Conversely, if you're awesome, the line will be, "There've been some bumps in the road, but hopefully he's learned from that".

Several years ago, I worked at a 21+ bar on the OSU campus. One night, a bunch of OSU players came in with none other than... Braxton Miller. He was a recruit at that time. I believe that he was actually 17. I didn't know any of this until after close, when the owners caught wind of it.
Believe it or not, the security staff got their asses chewed harder than I've ever heard. But yeah, figured this anecdote was pretty applicable here.
January 28th, 2017 at 10:36 AM ^
Got chewed out for letting him in... or making him pay a cover?
January 28th, 2017 at 5:12 PM ^
getting him some dope, hookers and a tattoo.....
January 28th, 2017 at 12:18 PM ^
star athlete in a bar... color me surprised... unless your bar was already being watched by the cops and or liquor inspector I don't see why the owners would care that much... happens everywhere which doesn't make it right you just don't flaunt it and bring attention to it...
January 29th, 2017 at 12:18 PM ^
Yup, perfect fit for a Buckeye..... because Michigan FB players don't and have never smoked dope, at least not while they're talking to Santa and the Tooth Fairy.
January 28th, 2017 at 9:30 AM ^
I don't condone kids smoking weed obviously but make it legal, regulate, tax it, then he would have been charged only with underage weed smoking.
January 28th, 2017 at 9:33 AM ^
Agreed.

which is basically how 19yr olds caught with a joint are treated.

It will show up in a background check. I was a baseball league president and had to run background checks on coaching applicants. There was always at least one that would come back for weed possession. They weren't allowed to be coaches.
Also, from studentaid.ed.gov:
Is it true that drug convictions might affect my ability to get federal student aid?
Yes; your eligibility might be suspended if the offense occurred while you were receiving federal student aid (grants, loans, or work-study). When you complete the FAFSA, you will be asked whether you had a drug conviction for an offense that occurred while you were receiving federal student aid. If the answer is yes, you will be provided a worksheet to help you determine whether your conviction affects your eligibility for federal student aid.
If your eligibility for federal student aid has been suspended due to a drug conviction, you can regain eligibility early by successfully completing an approved drug rehabilitation program or by passing two unannounced drug tests administered by an approved drug rehabilitation program. If you regain eligibility during the award year, notify your financial aid office immediately so you can get any aid you’re eligible for.
If you are convicted of a drug-related offense after you submit the FAFSA, you might lose eligibility for federal student aid, and you might be liable for returning any financial aid you received during a period of ineligibility.

I got caught with weed by the police when I was 19 (in Grand Rapids, not Ann Arbor) and it was pretty comparable to getting an MIP except I had to take like 3 piss tests over a 6 month period. My parents weren't psyched about it but it wasn't a big deal at all. And this was 14 years ago.
January 28th, 2017 at 2:45 PM ^
the first time, did you learn your lesson?
edit: nevermind, looks like you got caught twice. smh
January 28th, 2017 at 4:17 PM ^
That's what I was talking about ...MIP-like.
I live in CO so it would be an MIP here ...

It's kinda like getting Al Capone on tax evasion. Karma and The Universe are getting him for visiting OSU.
January 28th, 2017 at 1:36 PM ^
I don't smoke so I'm not knowledgeable about the subject, but is it a big deal if the weed is underage? Does it make it less potent? Does it taste bad? Anybody have the skinny on this underage weed?
January 28th, 2017 at 3:25 PM ^
Serve it at high school for them, good idea too no? /s
Or, maybe it's just better to regulate it, take the mystery appeal away, take the crime away, add to the tax base and agriculture and make kids be 21 to use it the same as alcohol.
January 28th, 2017 at 2:07 PM ^
The only negative to legal weed is the big pharma/agro/chemical companies like Bayer/Monsanto taking it over and genetically modifying it and creating a monopoly of some sort which believe me they are already trying to do.
At the same time, think of the relief on the criminal justice system from all the "crime" that disappears overnight. I guess if you're in that business somehow maybe you don't want the gravy train to end but it's for the greater good of the public big time.
January 28th, 2017 at 2:50 PM ^
the negative thing is that Feds don't want that money in their banks or credit unions. So, you end up with piles of cash in a safe. Won't be long until we start reading about a rash of owners getting robbed.
January 28th, 2017 at 2:59 PM ^
Don't forget tobacco companies and food conglomerates. Once it's legal nationally it will be a feeding frenzy; in the interim it's attempts at regional cartels like the Ohio/Nick Lachey legalization bill.
The prison industrial complex will be fine. They always seem to find a way to fill empty cells.
January 28th, 2017 at 11:12 PM ^
I read that arrests in Colorado dropped like 20%, which is just outrageous how many people are locked up in a cage for possessing a plant
January 28th, 2017 at 9:32 AM ^
So who hosted him and gave him the weed? I think that's the more compelling question. Kid is from Florida so I am assuming he didn't fly it up. Also assuming he didn't walk around the street asking random people for a hookup.

I was thinking the same thing .... If he didn't give it to him he showed him where to get it from.
