OT: Ohio President doesn't have a clue.

Your favorite University President made an ass of himself on the Twitters today when he Tweeted this:

Many excited Buckeyes in the Schott tonight—including me!Ready for the men’s basketball game against Wisconsin.

— E. Gordon Gee (@presidentgee) January 28, 2013

Only problem is Ohio plays tomorrow. As soon as it was brought to his attention, he followed it up with this dandy:

Just seeing who was paying attention out there. Will try again tomorrow night.

— E. Gordon Gee (@presidentgee) January 29, 2013

Why isn't this man in a home? Who knows.

http://deadspin.com/5979744/president-of-ohio-state-does-not-know-the-me...

(Edit: The name of that school down south has been updated to reflect the correct inferior University. Sorry for the confusion, fans)

I LOVE MICHIGAN

Who cares?

He is the CEO of a university system with a 5.2 billion dollar budget.  He is universally loved by the ~55,000 students.  He has spearheaded fundraising 1.6 billion dollars since coming back to OSU.  He is the highest paid public university president, and he is widely considered to be one of, if not the, best.  People who think he should have been fired for the Tressel stuff have no idea what they're talking about.  Who cares.  It's just football.

True, in part . . . howeva:

1.  The students only love him because he wears a bowtie.  The vast majority know nothing about the guy.  But old people that wear bowties are inherently loveable.

2.  Football is the #1 way to focus the alumni.  If big-time football programs suck, the money stops coming in to not only the AD but also the school.  No money -> drop in academics -> less donating -> bolivian.  Football is the pep rally for a university as a whole.

I think that the biggest reason the students love him is the guy is everywhere.  I don't know how many other university presidents show up at house parties or bars.

He did go out and hire Urban Meyer, so I don't think there will be much drop in football.

In terms of Wins and Losses, you're right...there will probably not be a drop in football.  But, considering Meyer's past, the deal with the devil Ohio has made may come back to bite them in a few years.  I've said it before, I'll say it again...Ohio may be sorry they hired him after a number of years, not because of W's or L's, but because of the other stuff that he brings with him.  And that is the type of thing that's haunted that school since the stories about JT broke.  This could be more of the same.

For the sake of the conference, I hope I'm wrong. (sorta)

Drug use by certain players, preferential treatment of certain players, scholarship manipulation...resulting in a split locker room and the players taking control.  Reported by former Florida players.

So, to your response re: winning/recruiting...Like I said, nothing about his W/L record.  Its the other stuff that supposedly was the cause of the erosion of the Florida program at the end of his tenure there.

I know he's appeared at some parties and some bars, but is he really everywhere, or does he just tweet as though he's everywhere?

This tweet makes it appear that he's intentionally misleading his twitter followers as to his activities as President of OSU.

The obvious question is why would he do that?  He doesn't need to make it seem that he's at the game, if he is not.  Well, why does he go all Mitch Albom on his followers?

Look, the guy is the Pres. at OSU.  I really couldn't (that's right folks, I couldn't) care less where he is or isn't.  I just think it's very funny at the expense of our rivals.  Way to go, Gee!

Than go to a party/bar here and there (He'll actually go to a bunch in one night) to interact with students.

I have no idea why he would tweet that, but I would assume it's because he's a busy guy who lost track of his schedule.  He probably likes people to think he gets to the game an hour early to cheer and w/e when the reality is he probably shows up whenever he can and stays for as long as he can.  It is, however, quite entertaining.

I gotta agree with Conroy on this one. I live in Columbus and every OSU alum and student I know lives Gee - and not just because he wears bowties. They feel he generally wants to know what's going on with the student body, shows up at lots of events, and generally does what he does best - tie people to Ohio State more closely than they were before by association.

And if you're dead set on using the Hoke-ism, it's "Ohio."

"OHIO" is Ohio University, as in the Bobcats.
