They're going to lose to Miami! hahahahahahaha
Sparty No lol!Where's the threat?
MSU loses and my wide made friend chicken for dinner. Win-win.
That's not a nice thing to call her.
God damn iPhone auto correct
Autocorrect do'ed it!
The mental images of wide wife, friend to fried chicken (pets the chicken, "it won't hurt while I chop your head off . . . you're going to chicken heaven, sweetheart. Luv you, bye!" Thwack,) just internally amuse me greatly, somehow.
fried chicken she probably deserves that descriptor. If she befriends fowl before frying them then she is also weird.
Dude, she may be a little heavy, but you shouldn't call her your "wide". Have some compassion.
I've never been a fan of friend chicken. Too bland. I find enemy chicken has just the right amount of kick.
I like the spiciness and kick you get from enemy chicken, but it just doesn't agree with me, ya know.
Is it my imagination or is that a picture of Mark Elzinga?
Just one of several losses to "UM" that MSU will experience in 2012-2013.
Miami. Wow. I think Ohio is also not as good as "advertised". Indiana and Michigan may very well be the cream of the crop. I did want the Big Ten to take home another "ACC/BigTen Challenge" title.
As much i want to agree, i can't. Duke is one heck of a team this year and already has a great resume so soon into the season. For Ohio to go into Cameron Indoor and make it a game deserves something (you don't have to call it respect, lol, but at least recognition).
That's my top 4 right now, based on (sort of) the preseason but leaning heavily towards the early season results we've seen.
Albany (5-2) W
Rhode Island (1-6) W
Washington (3-3) W
Mo-Kansas City (2-3) W
Duke (7-0) L
Slippery Rock W
IUPUI (3-4) W
Cleveland St (5-2) W
Pitt (6-1) W
Kansas St (5-1) W
NC State (4-2) W
I haven't seen much of Ohio other than the second half last night but you really think their resume is better than UM's at this point?
I don't take pleasure in the misfortune of others...
This also means that the B1G-ACC challenge is really close with Big Ten up 5-4. We need to win two of GT-Illinois, PSU-BC, and Duke-Ohio.
at least to retain the trophy...like the Ryder's cup
I've always wondered how the tie would work. Thanks for the golf analogy haha need more of them around here
BC is really bad so PSU has a real shot.
So Sparty. Save the choking for when a win would help Michigan by making the B1G look better.
We rushed the court when we beat #14 UConn
(I wish we didn't though...)
They had also lost earlier that week so they would've been unranked regardless...
good, that is.
Wait for the matchups against Minnesota and Illinois (I suppose IU as well, but you can be a good team and lose to IU) at the end of January/start of Februrary. If Izzo can't pull them together by then (which seems to be his MO), then they'll be left behind in the dust for a while in this conference.
had Miami has the 8th best ACC team going into this game.
Get the Fuck off my court Izzo- says Miami
....from Tom Izzo, or at least this is what he might be feeling anyway...
whole thread is very sparty-like itself.
that is a pretty good program in east lansing and its still very early. let's wait until we play them.
While I am more than happy to see Sparty choke, Boise State might be better than people think. They just beat #11 Creighton 83-70, with Derrick Marks scoring 35 in the process. Then again, had Marks not fouled out against MSU they might have beaten them too.
True words have been spoken.
Not sure your wife likes the nickname "wide".
You sir, deserve ALL the points.
Barry Larkin's son (who played baseball at Michigan) is Miam's starting PG and himself a good game too. There's always a Michigan connection somewhere.
Man... usually I don't do this, but I have been waiting 12 years for this moment and I will enjoy it!
"The chicken littles are out in force tonight. Look, I wish we looked better right now too. I wish we could go undefeated every hoops season and win a National Championship every single season. Not gonna happen, sorry.
That guy is one of the more delusional posters in message board history. He is having a breakdown over there...and it's AWESOME!
I can't take reading the RCMB after seeing "scUM","mgoblow". I just can't take the stupidity.
"this game makes me want to give up on my dreams"
I have to ask, do you know Kirk Lewis?
And then they start calling Miami's fans piles of sticks for rushing court. Good job, MSU.
MSU will likely fall out of the rankings too. What a horrible (fantastic) start to their season.
I have been misled before. Izzo's teams come together at the end of the year. I'm not counting wins until their over.
Thx a lot Sparty. Shouldn't have been on South Beach all night.
They must have been hanging out with The Situation, poppin' bottles.
What up Lupe, throw me your digits...
I wanted them to beat Nebraska. They choked.
I wanted them to beat Miami for B1G/ACC bragging rights and they choke
I should be an MSU fan, everyone here would like me because they would always lose
Time to take one for the team, the team, the team.
Enjoy living in a world where we never lose to Michigan State again and they always win when we need them to! Remember meeee.......
Oh no, here we go.
I forget who it was that MSU was playing last year (I think it was during the tourny), but I thought it was just hilarious that the guard defending him was giving him a 5 foot cushion when he was behind the arc.
Watched the first half. Not much continuity on offense. Softer than expected on defense., allowing Miami penetration several times. Appling is a player, though.
That's what she said
Mark Hollis and excuses
The tinfoil hats are probably saying the refs put them there. THE VERY REFS WHO COST THEM THE NEBRASKA FOOTBALL GAME!! DUNDUNDUN!
Mark Hollis is like a bitter, angry Dad fan except that someone let him run an athletic department and gave him a twitter
You can't spell MSU AD without U MAD??
In defense of "MSU AD", the same holds true for the University of Michigan. Actually it's more true...University of Michigan Athletic Director = UMAD.
HOWEVA! Ours does not whine on Twitter like a middle-schooler.
responded to Hollis, "Wait, so floor decals are a bad idea, but playing on an aircraft carrier isnt?"
I was going to try to come up with something witty to say to justify my presence on a posbang thread when I didn't have any idea MSU was even playing tonight.
Then I realized it was a posbang thread and I don't need a reason.
This is truly a good day
I need to confess my sins...I was rooting for them...I thought that because it was the ACC B1G tourney, I should root for all B1G teams...plus I don't hate BBall teams like I do with Football...but then they laid an egg....Fuck you MSU for having me believe that you would carry your weight
I too was pulling for MSU for the B1G's good. Why is it that whenever I root for State they derp it away to spite me?
whenever I root for State they derp it away to spite me
that's the way they roll
lol blaming a loss on floor decals
That tweet was from this afternoon.
Making excuses before the game even started. Some confidence he has!!!!
hearing the cries of thousands of spartys saying "izzo will have his team ready for march" yet?
Because he will.
This year will be MUCH more competitive in the BIG 10, but Izzo probably will have his team ready by Tourney time.
Just here for the posbang. That's all.
I wish the Big Ten basketball played conference games early like the SEC in football. We would never have lost to Sparty.
I didn't see the game. But I'm going to flip on ESPN News and enjoy watching the score scroll across the screen a few times...
I love that Mike Valenti was talking with Matt Dairy on 97.1 about how ridiculous it was that MSU got such an easy matchup in the Challenge. Lovely.
Also, I remember last year, Valenti talking about how MSU had a better recruiting class than Michigan anyway, and M fans had no idea what it was like to have a good basketball team and we were way overrating our recruiting class and our team. Schadenfreude is a bitch.
i'm getting very tired of valenti's schtick. he is a rant-er and will talk over you when he doesn't agree with your logic/comment.
I may actually dial up 97.1 today and listen to what that asshat has to say. All excuses and backpedaling I'm sure.
Is this what we do on MGoBlog now?
Yes they lost to Miami, but classic Tom Izzo teams are much better at the end of the season. Also, Harris is out for a few weeks and they are much better with him. Let's sweep them again and then get this started.
I think we can all agree that Sparty isn't at top form right now, but still. This is a game they should have won if they didn't play any starters and just played the end of their bench on forward. They flat out didn't show up tonight. Must have been concerned about the decals...
Gary Harris played 25 minutes and scored 12 points...
"Is this what we do" - yes, for now.
"Harris didn't play" - he played quite a bit and had a decent game.
Neg away but...It's so Sparty to post threads like this.
Guys. Repeat after me: we're superior to them in literally every way at this point. The gentlemanly way is to just ignore them and allow them to suffer in peace. No need to continue to pay them any mind.
Cool your jets. It's all in good fun and no one on here is bashing on MSU personally like they do over at RCMB. Apparently you did not live through the decade of Michigan Men's Basketball where it was the equivalent of the Smashing Pumpkin's Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness on repeat. For once we are on top and no one is saying we will/will not lose to them this year, but it's just a good feeling.
Those who stayed loyal all those years and watched practically every game the last 12+ years (such as myself) deserve this.
Nobody said you didn't deserve this (although what do you mean by that exactly?). Why do you think you know anything about me or how long I've been a fan? In any case it's amateurish to post this kid of crap regardless of our recent basketball history.
College basketball is amateur.
I can't ever envision Izzo going out the same way as Carr. He'll be more likely to pull a Woody Hayes and punch some kid.
All kidding aside, State will be back and this basketball rivalry will be fun to watch.
it felt so great not hearing them say "Oh just wait till basketball season!"
Mean anything for the team he'll have when it really counts. So I don't see this lasting. But while it's happening? Fuck Izzo. This is the guy who tried to beat us by 100 when we were down. I hope his head explodes at court side.
I hear you but MSU lived through John L Smith (!!!). It's logically inconsistent for us to make fun of them for obsessing over us, and then to post this
you're being ironic.
This is the INTERNET fergodsakes!
Come and knock on my door. My couch is waiting for you.
Pistons won by 40!! Holy Maggette.
2012: Sweet 16
2011: First Round
2010: Final Four
2009: Championship Game
2008: Sweet 16
2007: Second Round
2006: First Round
2005: Final Four
2004: First Round
2003: Elite 8
2002: First Round
While I'm not denying Izzo gets his team into March every year with alarming consistency, the idea that he's been a March Madness god of some sorts seems overblown to me. While 2 Final Fours and a Championship Game appearance is nothing to sneeze it (we would've killed for that over the last 11 years), his teams have fallen short more often than not. That 2010 Final Four was especially lucky as they played the 12 seed, 4 seed (won on last second bucket), 9 seed, and 6 seed. New Mexico State, Maryland (hey!), Northern Iowa, and Tennessee isn't exactly a murderer's row.
Pundits were pushing the "overrated" label on Michigan despite them returning everyone but Novak and Douglas and bringing in 3 Top 100 recruits. State lost a guy who was literally their team in Draymond Green. They're a tournament team, but look for them to be more like one of those 6-10 seed teams that get bounced in the 1st round than the Magical Izzo Team of Destiny in 2010.
Any reason you stopped at 2002? Because going back the previous 4 years you would add an additional sweet 16 and 3 Final 4s.
Izzo's biggest accomplishment in March is winning the 2nd game of the weekend. He does have a few 1st round exits, but most of his exits are in the 1st game of the weekend (only 3 exits in the 2nd game of the weekend).
But the past week and a half have not been great at all for Sparty!
But.....every single year he has them in the tourney. Also, if he goes out the first round, the next year he follows it up with a deep tourney run - the exception is 2006 and 2007.
No. Your last point.
This MSU squad reminds me of an Amaker Michigan team. Questionable outside shooting. Talented big men who never put it together completely. Turnovers galore. Unlike an Amaker team, they'll probably be on the right side of the bubble since Appling/Harris/Dawson is a better backcourt than Horton/Harris/Abram, but they'll probably only finish 6th or 7th in the Big Ten.
I don't see how you got that from this particular game.
Questionable outside shooting: They were 6-14 from behind the arc (42.9%). Michigan hasn't shot that well since Game 2 (IUPUI)
Turnovers Galore: Not every team can be Michigan. In tonight's game, MSU had a season low 11 Turnovers. That's actually really good for them.
Talented big men who never put it together: You are on the money on this one.
MSU did not play well tonight but i doubt they finish 6th or 7th in the B1G. If there is one thing i've learnt about bball, it's that the success of a team's nonconference schedule DOES NOT directly translate into conference success. Of course a good team will win most of their games on both sides of the schedule but MSU has lost 7 out of their 13 ACCvsB1G games and still has had success.
I was commenting on their season performance to date. They are shooting 30% for 3pt range and have a horrendous 24% (!) turnover pct for the season. Even today's game they had a 20% turnover pct, which I guess is an improvement, but still bad.
I agree. Statistics-to-date paint a not-so-rosy outlook.
I will bump them up in my prediction though. They'll probably finish 5th or 6th. Wisconsin is not a tournament caliber team since they lost Dekker for the year.
I can't quite compare MSU's team to an Amaker team simply because Izzo is a MUCH better coach than Amaker. I so wanted to believe that Amaker could coach a Big 10 team when he arrived in Ann Arbor, but soon learned that he was a good recruiter who was still a very young coach that wasn't quite ready for prime-time.
You mean Gasser, not Dekker. Dekker is their freshman "big man."
Angry midget, use your gun, ball sack, kill zach kill. Do you know what stanley pringle did?
He was just selling hand lotion, man!
Really rooting for that meteor to hit Cameron Indoor right now...Dook v. the Bucknuts...
Rooting for the B1G? Or listening to Jay Bilas' crying if Dook loses?
They dont play defense. They just hack and hack, rolling in yet more mediocre players when the starting mediocre players get into foul trouble. Eventually the officials just fatigue from calling fouls and sparty winds up with the advantage. Against teams with a pulse that just isn't going to do 'er.
is garbage! Are you kidding me? Miami ain't a football OR a basketball school anymore. Back of the bus with them again.
Lol at them for now. Ask all of them and they'll say "the reason we're so much better than scUM is because of Tom Izzo'' Not recognizing Beilein's coaching ability is gonna bite them in the ass just like it did with Hoke. That's not to say Izzo isn't a great coach, but Beilein is going to give him a run for his money.
Also, have they not learned by now that msu never starts out well? They lost to Grand Valley State in an exibition not that long ago but still went to the sweet sixteen.
Yep, that was in 2007, the night before the comeback in Spartan Stadium.
Calculate what we will or will not tolerate.
Desperate to control all and everything.
Unable to forgive your scarlet lettermen.
I'm gonna say "too soon."
I wouldn't say that MSU was mediocre last season. As you say, they tied for the regular season crown and won the B1G Tournament, beating Wisconsin and OSU en route. IMO, that says they were a good team (but certainly not a great one).
I will agree with you, though, that they were overseeded as a #1.
Since I have been saying "Tom Izzo is overrated" since John Beilein actually made him start competing for recruits, and "Tom Izzo's team is garbage" since the Wonders Hall Cover-up, I really don't have anything to add.
Izzo has a way to bore other opponents to death. That team in my opinion is unwatchable.
Technically msu's ''run'' has only been since Izzo became coach. They weren't really very good before him.
The Sparty sauce was weak.
And Mgoblog did rejoice.
be returned to its proper order with the Wolverines on top.
Wow. Izzo worshiping college basketball sheep prepare to gasp in disbelief, but Belein is head and shoulders above Izzo as a coach. I'm not sure of the talent, or how it is even quantifiable, on Izzo's team(s) compared to a Belein team before this years loaded team, but I would bet the house on Belein showing he can do a LOT more with a LOT less... Can't wait for this nauseating izzo fever to finally subside. I don't know what it will take.
I just can't help myself that it's finally being exposed, so one more thought. I think a lot of the sheep were won over by the "Magical" run to Detroit and all of the "Maaaagical" things he's "done for our state" but if you look at that team and many of his other deep run/final four teams, even they under-achieved for their talent, and his presumed "dream teams" that have started preseason top 3 that barely sniffed the tourney would have been Belein masterpieces. Just watch though, after Belein hangs another banner or has a top 10 year, and Izzo's 7 seed with 2 seed talent sqeaks by Vermont in the first weekend, Belein will be an after thought in yet another corrination of Izzo's "Maaagical" turnaround "Coach of the Year" performance. About time the best coach in the state get his due... So glad Martin extended him on his farewell tour...
Before we start "crowning" anyone around here.
We're headed in a great direction. But it doesn't mean the downfall of other good programs just because we're good again.
I feel compelled to mention this, but this isn't the first time a Jim Larranaga coached team has upset MSU.
Spartan tears are like sweet nectar. Good luck in the Big 10...
