OT- The Office

Submitted by DrewG32 on
Not sure how many of you watch, but I thought it was great tonight. Kind of had that feel like some of the classic episodes from the beginning seasons. Jim putting Dwight's tie in his coffee cup just capped it off. Overall a perfect night with a win in bball and a revival in The Office.

Just what about this season made it bad thus far? I would like you to re-watch LAST season and then this one. Then I'd think you can make a fair statement. Last season, with all the Jim/Pam stuff, it was just awful. This season? Hilarious.

I actually enjoy the British version of the office more than the American. I love both but I guess I have gotten used to the British humor from my time overseas.

You are correct in that Americans will find British humor not funny at all and vice versa. In general British humor is "dry humor" that many times is entrenched in their country's history and pop culture. More often than not the joke that American's don't get is a running joke that has been going on for years in the UK. Also you have to remember that the UK as a whole has an air of proper-ness that a scene where a man's pants are pulled down might be an absurd concept to Brits but commonplace to Americans. But if a Brit came to America and watched some of our comedies or anything on Spike TV they would think we were all bloody idiots. For instance in an episode of the British office David (office manager) participates in a ridiculous dance circle and totally embarrasses himself with a wacky dance. On the American show that would have been a dud joke due to no one really caring about bad dancing. But in the UK that would have been the talk of the town for a month. It was one of the funniest scenes in the whole season. It is really just a different culture that uses a different humor. Their lingo is different, their demeanor at work is different, everything is just slightly different from the chaps across the pond (aka America).

...is head and shoulders better than the US version (although the US version is quite funny at times). I did live in England as a child, so maybe I get the humor more than others. David Brent >>>> Michael Scott Tim Canterbury = Jim Halpert Gareth Keenan = Dwight Schrute Dawn Tinsley Pam Beasley It was only 2 seasons with a Christmas special. All in all, a a very succinct and funny show that went out on top. Every episode is on YouTube. Admittedly, some episodes do need sub-titles - their accents be thick!

Ed Helms is absolutely genius with his comedy. I'm so happy he made it big with The Hangover so people that don't watch The Office can see how hilarious he is. Tonight's episode was full of awesome. I've been pretty disappointed with this season so far, but every now and then there's an episode in this season that is amazing. "You're all OK with that?" "She sent an e-mail."

I am so glad jim is moving back to saleman. He is no longer bound to being Dwight's superior and can resume pranking him. Jim pranking dwight is what made the show great in the first few seasons.

I agree that it was a great episode, but I thought that the opening scene (Michael & Dwight dealing with hotel reservations for the winter olympics) was really lame. The shameless NBC winter olympics plug really bothered me. The show is great, I just wish that NBC would keep that stuff out of it.

I haven't really watched all the episodes of The Office so don't know if this has been mentioned before but did anyone notice the Michigan Helmet on Kevins desk?

This show jumped the shark in season 4. I have no idea how they're going to continue for another 2-3 seasons. Season 2 was the absolute best by far. Season 3 was pretty good, but season 4 was a stinker after the Jim & Pam afterglow wore off. To me it feels like they're just trying to hold onto whatever they can with this season. I haven't watched in a while because the last few episodes before the little hiatus were pretty bad.
