OT: Octopus throwing

"if you throw an octopus at Joe Louis Arena, during a Red Wings game, you will be ejected, fined $500, face a court hearing, and possibly sent to jail if you do not pay $150 to the Detroit Police department"
The NHL/Bettman are rediculous. Octopus throwing has only been going on for 15 years without any kind of incident.

Bettman & Co. ban the throwing of hats after a hat trick.

I think it started when there were only 6 NHL teams and 4 made the playoffs, and you needed to win 8 games (2 series) to win the cup. That takes it back to the 60s at a minimum. It is truly one of the great traditions in hockey, and the origin of it is quite clever. To ban it is nuts. And I am not even a Red Wings fan.

You're exactly right. The first appearance of the octopus as a Red Wing symbol was 1952.
