[EDIT: Damn you, a2! This was supposed to be the first comment.]
Have you thought about selling your car to CarMax?... they have a very objective appraisal process. You will probably get a little less for it than what you would get wiht a private sale, but man, it was worth not having to deal with the hassle.
(Just sold them my 2004 Toyota Rav4 for $8,000... $8K for an 8 yr old car... which was $300 less than what Edmunds.com estimated it to be worth, and they found some hail damage on the roof that I wasn't aware of)
EDIT: I have no finanicial relationship with CarMax to disclose... just a satisfied customer.
I got almost $3k from CarMax for a 2003 Saturn L300 with 80k miles that was in pretty rough shape a couple years ago. It was a little below private party estimations (right on par with trade-in value) at Edmunds but I had a check in my hand about an hour after arriving at the site. Given how much time it can take to advertise, find a private buyer and hammer out a deal, it was totally worth it.
I'm going to give it another week or two and then hit up CarMax. I'd like to get private party sales price, but if this goes on much longer I'm going to give up. Thanks to you both for the advice - I had totally forgotten to visit CarMax as well.
That is a funny story about the guy at sea. I got the same email from someone who was a "marine scientist" and wanted to buy my car.
I am in the market for a used car, what are you selling?
I got that same one. Nelson Cruz is the marine biologist. Hahaha. Google that name and Craigslist and there's all kinds of complaints about his scam.
Its a 2005 Honda Accord manual transmission. Fun car just not big enough for our expanded family with 2 car seats.
Profit, what are you asking for it (roughly)?
The dealership offered me $8500 but they are selling the same model for $14,000 with more mileage! Ours only has 51,000 miles on it. Its a great car - never had any mechanical issues whatsoever in the 7 years we've driven it.
A bit outta her price range unfortunately. Love those manual transmissions. I just bought an automatic and hate the thing. I'll be driving downtown, so it's a bit of a necessity, but regrettable nonetheless. I feel out of control when I can't control when it shifts, and automatics burn through gas like crazy.
You might be fine selling a Honda - lots of interest and still a going concern. I took a 2005 Saab 9-3 with low mileage there and they offered me $5K. Sold it a week later for $10K to a private party. CarMax seems best suited to 2-3 year old broadly appealing cars - everyone I know who's been OK with the experience has sold a 2008 or newer Toyota, Lexus or Honda.
now go enjoy your Friday...
You just negbanged my feelings man.
I think it's "comments commence"
So true. I should have said "paraphrase" but went with "in the words of" instead. My bad.
I'm going to finish watching season five of "Dexter."
I gave up after the John Lithgow season. The show just couldnt' hold my attention anymore.
I liked the Trinity Killer season. Season five seems to have fallen off (I've only watched the first four episodes). I don't have high hopes for how season five will finish, but I'll keep watching because I'll want to be up to date for season six. I don't have Showtime, so I watch them all on Blu-ray or DVD whenever they come out. I'm behind the times.
Shoulda stopped after season 4, it's only gone downhill since.
but I didn't think season 6 was particularly good either, with the exception of the ending. You should definitely still watch it, but yeah, it could have been better.
You people are ruining my life.
Next thing I know, you're going to tell me that "Sister Wives" isn't very good, either.
but yeah, sucks. Please don't do anything rash, we're all here for you.
Nah, Nah, Nah, can’t hear you (hands over ears)… I am still working on Trinity season, so don’t say anymore. /s
It's very good.
Love that show. I thought season 5 was a little weak compared to 4, but I hear season 6 is fantastic.
of me I cannot figure out the Dexter thing. I LOVE television, more so than I would ever like to admit, but I cannot make it through that show, and I have tried many times. It is a brutal watch to me.
I'm trying to finish work early and then attempt to finish drywalling the kitchen with my lovely wife. After that perhaps enjoy a few Oberons.
Wife in South Bend and I are closing on our first house in a month or so, and we've got some drywalling to do (among many other renovations). I've done most household repairs before, but I've never drywalled significant areas before, so I'm a little nervous.
take your time, plan it out, measure twice, cut once, and DONT RUSH IT. Drywall can be simple and easy to do. If you do it too quickly/lazily/etc it will turn out looknig awful. Just take your time.
Congrats about the house. If there's one thing I've learned about drywall it's that most people despise doing it including friends who I'd consider very handy. I think its all the gypsum dust that makes people depressed. I'm not very handy but with some help from Ask This Old House videos it's going well but slow.
Love the “This old House” videos; also TLC had a great home improvement instructional video series set in MN called Hometime hosted by Dean Johnson that was even better. Built many home structures and components thanks to them.
on your house. Was recently in same boat. You have about one month until your Home Depot card is maxed out and you are cursing your lawn. But for that one month, it is going to be AWESOME.
This is so true it's scary
My wife and I (emphasis on the I) are fixing up an old farm house that her grandparents left behind. I've already ripped out the kitchen and put in a whole new one, painted the first floor, and replaced some rotted floor boards in various areas, and I'm about to head over and start a plywood / cement board / tile sandwich on the bathroom floor. Besides the painting, I have zero experience with any of this stuff, and it all turned out great so far. Point being, don't get too nervous, I'm sure it'll work out just fine.
capable of doing precisely zero of the things you just listed.
We aren't planning anything THAT in-depth. We're just replacing the drywall in a few rooms, replacing a few light fixtures, repairing some of the wood siding, repainting, replacing some baseboards, re-tiling a couple of bathrooms, and recarpeting a few rooms (we're letting the pros do that one, thank God).
My biggest concern is trying to pull up a section of the basement with tile on concrete. Not sure if it's thinset or mastic, which could mean either an afternoon of annoying labor or three days of backbreaking pain-in-the-ass grunt work.
Dude, I need you and your crew in my basement.
That's tremendously impressive. Are you secretly Mike Holmes?
Only if he wears overalls, a plain white beater, and a gold stud in one ear.
I feel more like the dude from the Bud Light ad who says, "Welcome to 'Hackjobs'!"
I bought a house last May and renovated the half-bath with the same stuff you're using. I was a little overwhelmed at first, but once you get moving with the thin-set and laying tiles, it goes suprisingly fast.
It's amazing how nice it looks when you're done, especially if you install the matching bullnose 3 x 12 in pieces as base trim. Just be sure to take before and after pics.
Eating bottomless fried fish tonight. Quite thrilled about it.
Checking this site while waiting for a report to run.... yeah, that's it.....
In 40 minutes and then a meeting with my Neuroscience professor about working in her lab. Then, sleep. And Arrested Development, which I decided to watch again.
I really need to finish that show, I still have one more season, and I have no idea why I haven't watched it yet.
The 3rd season is short. Shouldn't take too long.
Driving to the girlfriend's in Michigan.
Profit - either cars.com or autotrader.com (I can't remember which) lets you list cars for free. That can help. Good luck with the sale.
I'm out, have a good weekend eveyrone
had Freschetta Brickoven? it is the Cadillac of the frozens.
If in Chicagoland, definitely get frozen Gino's East pizzas. Blows the doors off 99% of fresh pizza restaurant pies.
Used to go home with a buddy on breaks and go there. My brother lives there now and sent me 3 for Christmas. It was the best Christmas gift since I got my official UM helmet a few years back.
but you can also now ge Gino's East frozen in select grocery stores in Chicago. I also recommend Home Run Inn in Chicago (both the restaurant and in-store frozen) varieties.
Having breakfast at my brother-in-laws house in Oregon. Believe I'll have a beer now.
Along with Andy Griffith, Marylin Monroe (posthumously), Greg Schiano, Alexi Lalas, Paul Coffey, Heidi Klum, Smush Parker (???), Morgan Freeman, and Alanis Morrisette.
Also celebrating the last of my days in Cleveland! Woohoo!
Happy birthday to you all.
But mostly to Heidi Klum
Office hottie? Man I hate my internship now, 12 dudes and the receptionist is a 60 year granny. I need a better gig but the money is to good to leave for a 21 year old.
Office hot chick is wearing a t-shirt dress that is not much more than a t-shirt....
or ill never believe you.
God bless casual Friday...
Studying for BEC of the CPA Exam.
Wow, aren't you a lucky one, have fun!
It isn't too bad, I have been using Becker, so it just takes awhile, but its not awful
a double header because of rain yesterday. Probably a good eight or nine hours starting at three, but then almost a week off. Watching some of the WCWS and eating for now.
Working until 4:30...like everyday.
Heading to Ashley's after work to meet a buddy and have some brews. We will probably get dinner down there somewhere. Not sure yet.
Stop by Meijer on the way home. Pick up some groceries. Buzzed shopping can be dangerous though. Everything looks good.
Watch Tigers and pass out early. I would be "Drunk On Higgins" but the weather sucks and it's too cold to swim in still. Hopefully in the next couple weeks the lake will warm up a bit so swimming can be tolerated.
Working on a statistical analysis of the greatest rivaries in American sports. Exciting, I know.
...of whatever your job is. I would totally kill five hookers to make my job involve statistical analysis of sports.
I'm just tired of the other stuff so I'm doing this instead. I really have a lot of work to do, just not doing it b/c its Friday.
I'm guessing the stastical analysis of sports is personal. So maybe you should kill the five hookers for a job that provides you with enough free time to perform personal statistics of sports.
For my nieces' Bday parties this weekend. They turn the big 0-1. Let's hope this doesn't end in a washout....
Somehow found some motivation to get a bit of work done. Now I get to eat some ribs! Yum!
Your boss sure knows how to incentivize his workers.
I have the day off today and I plan to get in a long bike ride, walk the dog, chillax on the hammock before happy hour and tasty Belgians. Tomorrow I'm painting the baby's room - only 10 more weeks!
I'm at work.
And I demand that anyone who reads this negs the held out of me. In fact, if you could create an additional account and neg me again. I'd ask you do so...fortunately or unfortunately, you have to have so many posts before you can pos/neg.
I can't neg myself for being at work. So I'd like someone who doesn't rate posts to neg me just this once for being at work on Friday, working through lunch on Friday, and having no intention of leaving work before 5pm on a Friday. Especially for someone who works in college athletics...this is supposed to be our relax time and time off. Neg, Neg, NEG!
I dont know how to neg the held [sic] out of someone...
Also I refuse to negbang someone in a posbang thread.
Back in Michigan for a few days. Mom just had her hip replaced. So I'm sitting in the surgery waiting room at Borgess "getting work done" while waiting for her to get out of recovery.
Hey turn around I'm waving at you right now!
Going to crash at the old fraternity house tonight. Bracing myself for how gross it always seems after being gone.
Watching a "The League" marathon on Netflix. I'm fascinated by the improv...so diffiult to detect at times.
on a beatiful friday afternoon...being a consultant has its perks
And I love it
Tomorrow night I'm celebrating Inti Raymi, the second largest festival in South America (after Festival). Incan festival, Beotches.
I am also doing that. tips are appreciated. (finance)
Nailed it. I did decide to do it in my boxers, but I think the key was preparing. My advice to you is to research the company and have something thoughtful to ask( try to do this without sounding like you are an expert on the company- more like clarifying or directional). Also, be ready to answer STAR questions, and don't be afraid to give out instances where you failed and how you would have done differently. The phone interview is about figuring out if you match the company and getting a sense of how you think/who you are. Know your resume inside and out and speak clearly to your strengths and philosophy. I don't know if this applies to you, as this was an operations management position. Good luck.
You want to be comfortable. Plus, if you ever get nervous, you can remind yourself that you know you're in your boxers and the person interviewing you still thinks you're acting professionally.
It doesn't make much logical sense, but I've done this before and it always seems to provide a little bit of a mental edge.
I guess I should take off my suit. Felt silly walking around my house in it anyway.
Find a quiet open space where you can stand and walk around while you talk. Because the person you're interviewing with can't see you, they're missing out on a lot of non-verbal cues such as eye contact and facial expression. You can make up for that with positive voice inflection, and you're less likely to sound stagnant and boring if you're up and moving around then you are if you're sitting still.
Imagine that your interviewer is on the other end of the phone buck naked. Begin the conversation by mentioning to them how nice they look - in your mind's eye.
People like to be flattered!
I could not do this without laughing. Fat women in their 40s should not publicly display pictures of themselves in a bikini. Seriously , shes an HR manager at a Fortune 500 company. Why would you have a publicly available FB page with that on there? Finding this has made it easier to relax.
In that case change "buck naked" to "in a burqa". Problem solved.
Good luck on the interview! Be relaxed yet respectful, and you should do just fine.
Talk out loud for at least a few minutes before you start the call, even if you have to talk to yourself. It warms up your voice, but it also warms up your mind and helps your confidence a little bit.
I was just told I have the day off, so now i'm getting out my rain gear to golf until dark.
so I am spending the rest of the day gloating in the office.
Congrats, Mr. Edwards

One of the perks of being in-house counsel (to balance out the paycut): Never, ever doing legal research again.
My roommate is an assitant brewer at a local Brew/Pub. He's getting me an employee pass to attend the American Craft Beer Fest in Boston tonight. It's the largest beer festival on the east coast. Much like Brady Hoke in Muncie, my goal tonight will be to drink every beer at the Seaport World Trade Center.
Tomorrow, maybe the ponies? Maybe the beer festival again?
Sunday morning I will be taking the field with my 0-8 softball team.
Going to a tamale-making class with the wife and another couple this evening. You will be able to measure my Tecate intake by the declining quality of the tamales made. By the end of the night I fully expect to just be sticking handfuls of cornmeal in my mouth.
I am typing up some notes for my annual review. The review isn't for another 5 months doing it know will save me a bunch of time later.
just hangin out and eating brains
Are you in Miami?
was in miami, moved to maryland...where wil i be next MUUUUUAAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA
You ate some human in Canada and are hiding out in France disguised as a woman. Cannibal text alerts.
The most recent heart and brain eating incident was in Maryland this week. I seem to have become the official tracker of cannibal stories. I should change my avatar pic to Hannibal Lector.
Watching Skip Bayless make himself look like an idiot on ESPN First Take never gets old. And hopefully about a 4 hour nap.
After work I'm going to be changing lines on all of my reels. Last week I lost a pretty decent Calico bass to some kelp. I'm not going to make the same mistake with this old line.
I think I'll take the little dude (4 yrs old) fishing tomorrow. Its supposed to be beautiful out and I just got him a little Ugly Stick kiddie rod and reel combo. We went last weekend and caught some tiny bluegill and he loved it. Pretty cool going back to fishing with worms for panfish - I forgot how fun that can be!
no experience fishing (except when I was really little) but I think it is something my 4 year old son would like. I was looking at rods today and had no idea what the hell I was doing or reading. Can you point me to where you bought that kiddie rod (that soulds so bad) and reel and about how much it costs.
This is what I got for him:
I found it at Dick's Sporting Goods for $25. I love Ugly Stick rods but the reel isn't the best. Thinking about replacing it if it turns out he wants to go more often. Until then, though, the reel it comes with is fine.
That ugly stick will do more than fine for a 4 year old. I used to have one when i first started and they are great starter rods because of their durability and price.
Exactly. I remember my first one, a short 3 footer, hammering some big bass and catfish that is shouldn't have been able to handle. Plus, the one I got for him is yellow so he loves it.
Making spaghetti and meatballs all from scratch (pasta too) tonight, tomorrow my friend's college graduation party.
Might put in a few hours of work on my other friend's farm tomorrow morning if the rain holds off today.
Making pasta from scratch is awesome. I didn't believe how much better it was until I tried it myself, and it's not really that hard.
How difficult would that be for someone who has never done that before?
I'm always intrigued by handmade pasta when I see it on TV.
If you have a food processor it's pretty easy (roll it thinner than you think you need to, fresh pasta expands a bit when it cooks). If you don't, then I wouldn't reccomend it... unless you like kneading dough for 20 minutes.
The basic ratio: 1/3 cup flour, 1/3 cup semolina, 1 egg, and a pinch of salt per serving. So if you're making pasta for 4, use 4 eggs and 1 1/3 cup of each dry ingredient.
Dump the flour and semolina in a pile on your counter and mix them together, then spread the flour/semolina into a ring. Crack the eggs into the middle of the ring and scramble them with a fork, then gradually work the surrounding flour/semolina mixture into the scrambled egg. When everything is mixed together, you should have a fairly thick dough.
Knead this dough for about 10 minutes, or if you have a KitchenAid type mixer, put it in there with the dough hook attachment for about 10 minutes. Then spread a little bit of olive oil on the lump of dough and let it sit for 20-30 minutes. After that, roll it out (a pasta roller is helpful but not necessary) and cut it into whatever shape you want.
This sounds like it takes a while, but the active steps really aren't that hard. The timing works pretty well to make a sauce or meatballs or something while you wait for the dough to sit. Or you can just sit back and drink some wine to feel extra Italian.
Thanks for the detailed info.
I might give it a try this weekend.
The Chem building is nice and warm despite the terrible weather outside, but my plans for tonight were ruined... Probably going to hit up the gym and then some drinks tonight with a friend.
Also getting Chick-fil-a for lunch...then to Joe's Bar in Chicago tonight to see Pat Green and a little Wave on Wave!
I went to my 10 year old's promotion ceremony (5th to 6th grader). They are way too long winded. Asked him what he wanted for lunch, to which, "Sushi" was his response. So we ate sushi with my ex wife and wife. Found out my baby is due the day of the Alabama game. Don't know how to feel about that.
My ex just tried to sell her car on Craig's List and was deluged by scammers. It must work because they keep at it.
I'm working until 5, then going to my son's baseball game across town at 6:30. Its going to suck because I wore a suit to the promotion ceremony.
Have a great weekend everyone.
Watching the market plunge and my $$ go down the drain.
Reviewing a site plan for one of my client communities - someone DownRiver is getting a new coffee shop. Not saying where or which though to protect the innocent.
Also thinking about what kind of beer goes best with a rainy weekend at the lake up north. Any suggestions?
jagermeister - (pssst, i know its not beer)
Wife is out of town. Trying to remember how to cook and use this washing machine robot. Anyone know how to thaw meat?
how fast do you want to eat it?
I once told my college roomate's girlfriend that she needed to put hamburger in water to thaw it quicker... so she took it out of the package and put it into a pot of water. fucking hilarious.
She also tried to make fried chicken by combining the flour and egg BEFORE coating the chicken.
Have you tried punching it, or spitting at it?
If it's in a sealed package, submerge it in cold water. If it's not, order a pizza.
I'm going to my mom's house after work to trim out her bedroom in order to sell. I have no idea how the FHA determines what needs fixed to sell a house. It's really cool that you aren't allowed to talk to them to get clarification. I guess I'm just glad the inspector didn't notice the lack of baseboard trim in the rest of the house! Happy weekend everybody.
I love this thread but I secretly hope that one day someone will post, "Working...but eff it, let's all meet for a beer!" and we spend the afternoon on the patio of some bar in Detroit talking about Team 133.
A girl can dream.
Yeah, but you just know that'd be the one day you couldn't get out of work.
Im writing a paper on the ethics and leadership in the nfl.
Must be a short essay.
I wish. Its a 12 page paper. I can present the good and bad
That is a joke I hope. Those people walked all over others to get where they are at. You should write it on Sandusky and positive morals. It could be easier, or politicians and integrity.
In the office trying to figure out why Citrix won't launch on a laptop for a firm. Wouldn't recognize the .ica file extension so I had to create it manually in indexing options and then associate that file type to the installed Citrix app, but it still won't launch. 2 hours into this issue and I'm almost out of ideas. *Sigh, I miss my high school/college days when work just consisted of swiping cards at the front desk at the NCRB for a few hours every other day...
On a better note, while my lunch is not as good (or rational) as Profit's Chick-fil-A, I'm definitely enjoying my large bag of Hershey's Cookies'n'Creme Drops!
I am at my desk nibbling at my lunch and reading MGoBlog when I perhaps should be finishing up all the first-of-the-month reports on planning productivity, volume of work issued, backlogged designs, and things of that nature. I also have a few e-mails that I suppose I could answer regarding mischarged capital work orders, but it is Friday and such things do cross the line of how deep I want to think, financially speaking.
These things are very difficult to concentrate on when you have a raging sinus infection and can barely stay awake, of course. I do try to look somewhat managerial when I nod off, however, lest people in this building question why I was allowed to take this position in the first place. The answer to that is simple, of course - I caused far too much trouble when I was actually designing jobs.
that I hope doesn't turn into a sinus infection.
That cartoon made me laugh hysterically (followed by a paroxysm of hacking) because it is essentially my life. I have paperwork on the left side of my desk that explains the paperwork on the right side of my desk. They told us we were going to be paperless within five years back in 2007, but then I get a memo telling me that the average employee here prints 10,000 pages per year. Where DOES it all come from?
Work work work. Going over a bunch of leases and editing loan documents. Long day ahead. Followed by a birthday dinner for a friend of mine.
Potentially a date this weekend.
Other than that, lots of sleep, mad men (I just started watching, thank you Netflix), and constantly checking this blog for any information I can get (Maurice Hurst, please?)
Thinking the dictator
WHO WANTS A MOUSTACHE RIDE?!
If its you, no thank you. P.S. I hope your wife doesn't have a mustache.
Just got done rounding on patients, now I'm enjoying some delicious Taco Bell.
I'm busy celebrating the fact that this post brings my MGoPoints total to 1776.
"You're welcome" to anyone else who will be humming "so lick my butt and suck on my balls" for the rest of the day.
Setting up a tee time for tomorrow morning and reading MGoBlog the rest of the day. Woot woot.
about winning the lottery this weekend and then retiring.
if not then maybe I will join a cult....anybody know of any good ones?
I'm pretty sure we're all already in one. Is there enough time in a day for two cults?
Classic Adam Sandler: What do you have to do that's so important that you can't join a cult? The night time is the right time.
I loved that CD, I really liked the this 'skit' and the one with the talking goat.
It definitely is a great cd. The Goat is my favorite along with Dip Doodle (pretty sure that was the name of it).
Yea, for work. Kids are done with school now, so maybe some pool action this weekend.
I'm trying to post pics of the senior's SEAL training, and failing miserably.
edit - figgered it out.
Have a good weekend all.
Some Zombie Dust later, and more studying. I hate you all with fun things to do today.
Take a sh-tload of practice exams. It'll make you feel much more comfortable among the 1000s sitting around you.
PMBR does a good job on practice exams for the MBE
Sending out emails for my sports agency internship, followed by picking up a burrito and watching the Heat-Celtics game tonight.
Steps to obtain sports agency internship:
(1) Begin the email with these very important words: "Dear Mr. Pelinka"
(2) Write a few gushing sentences about how smooth his jumpshot was and how you are extremely jealous of his hair
(3) Profit (unless it's an unpaid internship)
Compling with number 2 is easy enough for me.
I am thinking about heading to detroit tonight to hit one of their fine casinos. I hate Greektown (auto shuffle continous deck for blackjack). Does anyone have suggestions on their favorite Detroit Casino?
I'm not a casino or gambling person, but go to a casino once in a while. I've been to Greektown and thought it was so-so. I didn't gamble much, but my friend got bent over pretty badly.
GTL. Have the day off, maybe a little BF3!
Are you on PS3?
PC my friend, where first person shooters are made to be played! :)
Dammit. Agreed. I'm already into the PS3 too deeply to change now. Wish I knew how much better controls are in PC before I started.
To follow up my post from last week's "what are you doing" thread, I asked my lady to marry me, and she said yes! Done a lot of celebrating recently, certainly enjoyable.
Tomorrow, I am working the Detroit City FC game (at 1 PM, everyone should come!), then heading up to Mt. Pleasant to celebrate my cousin's 18th birthday at the casino. Sunday, finally get to relax. It's been a crazy past week, I'm looking forward to some down time.
Congrats! I hope you now know that your weekends, and really weeknights, will now consist of wedding planning.
The great thing is, she already told me that if I say "I don't have an opinion" or "I don't care" about something... she's cool with that. Plus the wedding probably won't happen for another 2 years, so we have time to save a little more dough. But thank you for your congratulations!
It's a trap!
But seriously, word to the wise, even if you don't care, act interested and provide some insight, but avoid being opinionated. Also, she's gonna freak out, you will probably fight a couple of times (usually over the cost of something and the guest list).
As BucksFanXC said, even if you don't care, pretend like you do. I have been planning my wedding for the last 8 months (Beach wedding in Traverse City in August). There are many aspects I don't care about as long as the wife-to-be is happy, but I still pretend to care for her sake. The conversation goes something like this:
Fiance: What do you think about the centerpieces?
Me: Which one do you like?
Fiance: The square ones with the purple flowers.
Me: Perfect, that's the one I like better too.
Congratulations! Time to start planning your MGoBachelorParty . . .
If my bachelor party can resemble this movie whatsoever (well, I could do without the whole getting stuck on a rooftop thing), I will be beyond happy.
First, I love these threads.
Secondly, I did all my hard manual labor last weekend, new storm door, poured a concrete step, landscaping, organize my garage. So this weekend I'm hosting family. My grandparents are coming up to meet my daughter for the first time, she's 3mos old this week. The new step will allow my grandmother to get in and out of the house more easily I hope. I always tell my wife, gotta get the chores done in summer because once football season starts my Saturdays are spoken for.
How did you do all that stuff with a 3-month old?? I can hardly find time to take the trash out!
My mom and stepdad come over, mom takes the baby for hours on end without getting frustrated when she cries, etc. and my stepdad helps me with my projects. It's win/win. Although my wife gets all jealous when the baby doesn't cry for my mom or gets pissed when my mom only tries to teach her to say Dadda. But you take the bad with the good I guess. How old is your little bundle?
She's just now 4 months old. And we have a 4-year old too. He's an energetic little dude and she likes to keep me up at night (I do the nights). We don't have family nearby so I'm jealous of you. We had a lot of company for help the first month and the sh-t got real.
Yeah, between my mom and her mom we have help nearby. I don't have to do nights because I work and my wife doesn't. But she is going to go back to work within the next month, so we'll see how that goes. She already sleeps better at nights, not quite through every night yet though.
Sitting in my truck on the company issued iPad watching heavy equipment move around. Playing a softball tournament tonight and hopefully tomorrow, single elimination so if we lose later I'll have to make new plans. Have a good weekend everyone, GO BLUE!!
*OP I'm totally jealous you had Chic Fil A
Just got my blu-ray Alien Anthology off Amazon (it was on sale for $30) gonna watch the first movie tonight in preparation for Prometheus next week.
and do menial tasks I've fallen behind on.
How does that girl not smash her damn head on the floor?
Working on an insurance policy report while on a bus back to A2 for the Dexter-Ann Arbor run this weekend
Just found out that I'll be spending the next 4 years of my life (or next year at least) in South Quad in Honors housing!!! So pumped.
As a former 3rd Taylor president let me say welcome, unless you're not in Taylor house in which case we will see you on the ice, broom ball style.
Been trying to get a job at menards. Going to do a drug screening at 4:00. Hope i pass it
I'm in Paris so I'm watching the French Open a bit before dinner. Being 6 hours ahead of the East Coast is super weird for my Internet and tv habits
I used to think being a dentist was the best way to go. You have the hygenists that do all the work and then you just swoop in and poke around for 30 seconds, look at the x-ray and then you're done (other than the surgeries, of course).
But now I'm convinced that being an eye doctor is better. I went in this morning because my eye was bothering me, feeling like it was scratched. He looked around, put in a few drops, and diagnosed me with very dry eyes. Several hundred dollars to learn I have dry eyes. Nice!
One time they found a piece of rusted metal in my eye, which I didn't even notice before. Dug it out with some hooked implement. Not the best optometrist visit ever.
I thought about it for a minute during 3rd yr of med school. Only problem was the incredible dexterity they need to do their procedures. I can suture with the best of them but suturing an iris? Or slicing an opening to insert a lens? Not with these big mitts!!
I had a lunch beer which was nice. Now I have a friend in from out of town and when I leave work, we will commence more serious drinking and citywide drunken activities.
Trying to put together a rational value proposition to finish up a product requirements document I've been working on for the last 2 weeks. Ah, the joys of defining new products for a technology company.
But...just realized I am about to experience a severe beer shortage in the beer fridge, so need to go to Binny's and rectify that problem. So many choices, but what to choose?
Maybe Binny's first, drink beer, then write value prop?
Jolly Pumpkin...always a good decision, available at Binny's, and made in Dexter!
Trying to save my butt by turning in something today that I forgot 2 weeks ago and realizing that the higher up that will approve what I've turned in is leaving for London next week so everyone depending on what I forgot will have another week to scream at me.
Sweet. Happy Hour starts now I guess!
Summer vacation, teacher party tonight to drink away the school year.
Today: Running through different regression models on some fascinating NSYR data and comparing differences in religious views and practices at different types of colleges.
Tonight: Laundry and grocery shopping, watching NBA Playoffs with housemates
Saturday: Stop by an open house for two new apartment buildings that some former colleagues (from a recent internship) have worked on
Sunday: Date night.
my secretary has the afternoon off.....not fun. I did just get a call from Barwis Methods over here in GR to see if I wanted to get in on some training. If Bacon can do it...I can do it right???
Writing a dissertation! The enitre thing in one day! Not really.
I searched the site, but couldn't find the post where it says when HTTV will be shipped.
Can anyone enlighten me?
I think Seth (or was it Ace?) mentioned that it just shipped this week. But I could be wrong (its happened many, many times).
But then I recalled a post by Brian about it being distributed at the Party on June 16th.
I guess I got excited that Christmas might come early this year.
I will smash your face into a car windshield, and then take your mother, Dorothy Mantooth, out for a nice seafood dinner and never call her again.
I hope you flip your bike over and knock your two front teeth out, you selfish son of a b-tch!
Hitting up the Sylvania Maple and Main art fair. I'm moving to the area this month, and hopefully I will be signing a lease today (I've already had two landlords back out of their verbal agreements to me for one reason or another -- the challenge of moving to an area when you live 4 hours away). If anyone on this board knows a thing or two about cool things in Sylvania/Toledo, especially regarding outdoorsy and social stuff, I would much appreciate any tips.
I'm not going to lie, there isn't much to do out here (I live about 20 minutes west of Sylvania). However, Mudhens (Tiger's AAA team) and Walleye (hockey) games are fun and the casino just opened (have yet to check it out).
I've been waiting for the requisite negbang on this thread. Thanks for accommodating, champswest!
Idk if anybody has pointed this out yet, but if not, you can watch us beat sparty on BTN
I need something less than $16.37. This recession is starting to bug me.
I have to buy a new wedding ring after I lost it playing Ultimate-- and it has to cost about 50 bucks. Trust me, you have it much better than I did.
Go for the titanium ring. SO much cheaper than any other fine metal and lots cooler too. Just don't jam your finger and let it swell up with your ring on - lots of urgent care places don't have tools that can cut titanium.
I just ordered mine and chose tungsten-carbide. I like the look of the polished grey, and it's extremely durable, not to mention cheap.
They probably have tools that can cut finger. Problem solved.
If I lost my ring AND got a titanum ring, my wife the nurse would be super mad (She's seen some gruesome stuff). I think I am going stainless steel ring. Cheap, can be cleaned with vinegar, and will cost so little that I can probably take the wife on a date. I mean, she's not super mad, but these things build up and I would like to clear the register, so to speak.
I would say get her the Peace of Westphalia, but at $16.48 that is just out of your range.
That's a bummer, man.
of a one year subscription to MGoBlog. Endless hours of fun!
writing a eulogy for a fallen friend. After that's done, poker game at the house with the guys.
I am working on digesting pizza before I go work out and go home. Also hacking into my friends computer at work because our office is stalled out because Maymester+preparing to move across campus + summer malaise+bosses being gone +friday means that as a Grad Assistant, I have nothing to do.
hi everyone & happy birfday!
Happy barfday to *you*!
I am currently working on some real estate purchase agreements, which is not too bad actually.
This weekend I'm visiting my newborn niece for the first time, and hopefully enjoying some good micro brews later on.
Moving cross-country 3 days from now. Also plotting ways to spend the unused portion of my summer housing stipend. Right now, I'm debating between new backpacking equipment, and just saying "screw it" and spending it on a summer's worth of beer. Three cheers for corporate America, pun intended.
Drinking my own urine. Not because I have to, but it's sterile and I like the taste of it.
Memorial day vacation on a lake, then bitches be trippin all week, so it's shots tonight for me.
This is the longest afternoon. Ever.
Heading to One-Eyed Betty's in Ferndale after work for dinner and some delicious, delicious beer.
You're near my old stomping grounds.
Loving Touch looks really nice under new ownership (and it's, you know, a pool hall rather than a massage parlor) and they serve WAB beer on tap on the cheap.
Then it's off to pick up the wife, go have a couple cocktails and then grill up a couple wicked ribeyes on the grill. (and like Tom Brady I'm also not from Bastan, but these steaks look incredible!)
.. A new old hair cut.. And trying to become the best at exercising so I'm not a fat ass for my wedding next year!
Not worth it, just let yourself go. Only reason to ever get in shape now is after divorce.
Trying to finish up my junior year of high school. Hard part's over, now I just have to take a few exams next week, then it's summer! Which means strength and conditioning for football! Woo.
Am usually the one with laid back, coach-potato or diy plans but actually headed off this evening to the Santa Cruz Tannery Art Center opening, a little art, some wine, and will see what develops after that. (read: wife gets really worked up with a martini or two!) /s
sitting at the DMV so i can get some sweet in-state tuition.
of my husbands' old girlfriend. She just spoke to her dead Dad, who is apparently now a ghost. Someone remind me to say "you're welcome" to my husband.
You've never spoken with a ghost? Everyone's doing it. It's all the rage these days.
was sleeping with Tiger, too, except for me! So no ghosts here. I'll keep looking.
House fills relatives (the ones I like)
Celebration of son's last day in high school
Waiting for the interns to get back to the office with a case of beer!
Now for some MGoBlog and NBA, with appropriate beverages.
finished repairing a couple of computers. One computer had over a dozen trojans and viruses. I told the owner that I had cleaned her system, and installed an anti-virus.
She asked why did she need that, considering she had never had an issue before. I explained why, and told her to change all her passwords, call her bank, credit card companies, ect. The concept that cyberspace can be dangerous, was new to her.
So dinner then drinking.
Another half day friday with a company sponsored happy hour. Im getting way to used to this.
I am working on my e-portfolio for the MAC program at Michigan. It is due next Monday. After working on that for part of the night, I am going to write a few cover letters for a few teaching jobs in the area.
I'm going to ice my torn Achilles. Enjoy walking everyone!
It's a shame this is only 10 minutes long.
Can someone with great photoshopping skills create a maize and blue superman, with a block m on his chest? We could call him "Michigan Man".
Not exactly how I pictured it, but it may confuse, or even scare our opponents long enough for us to win. I like it!
Brewed a double batch off beer starting at 5 AM now it's time to smoke a J and catch some fish!
Watching the NBA playoffs at my friend's house with a gaggle of people.
Why do I picture Hoke sitting around laughing and drinking with geese?
Testing out some new scuba gear in the pool... heading to Bali in a few weeks and would like to get this recruiting class wrapped up by then so I don't have to stress about Poggi, Treadwell, Green, Hurst, etc. while I'm gone. With the time difference and uncertain internet access, I really just can't be bothered with trying to keep up. How about another 8 recruit weekend and let's wrap this up now?
is wondering why my pants ripped when I just sat down in front of the keyboard. Guess I should be sitting less and exercising more...
Recovering from jet lag. No matter how often I do the Asia-North America flights, it never gets easier. I'm going out to run around a cocaine addled rat for awhile and try to get back on a normal sleep schedule.
Also my wife's younger sister is visitng, lucky me.
Chick fil a breakfast is crack
to North Carolina. Charlotte specifically.
and after that, some chicken. Yeah, I'm going to be hungry later on. Guaranteed.
Winning six straight national championships with MICHIGAN on NCAA 2012. If you're going to stay in on a Friday nigh. You might as well be productive.
I am without female just like all y'all. Except profitgoblue and you married types. Fuck you guys.
