It's summer, so it's shandys.
OT: Obligatory Friday Night What Are You Drinking Thread
Racer 5 is excellent.
Pumped to try it. I am through the Shorts (which was amazing) and now off to the Southern Tier.
I'll be rummaging the fridge when I get home from work. I'm guessing some sort of rum and some sort of cola. Went to the Dave Matthews Band concert on Tuesday and hit the bar Wednesday night so I'm a little sick of beer right now. Could use a change-up.
By Bruges. Found out about it from zinger mans. Makes any rum drink much tastier
i see what you did there.
Coke and pineapple juice. It isn't good.
I have a combination of Strongbow Cider and Fuller's (alternating drinks) going tonight...it should prepare me for preparatory yardwork for my daughter's birthday party (the actual day is today, so we took her to her favorite place - oddly enough, Cracker Barrel), which is one week from tomorrow.
I am writing essays. Much more material needed to help make it all work. Must generate text.
Is that how you got diabeetus?
+1 for the moon mist. I used to drink Rock N Rye with vodka/gin in college.
A couple shandys then High Life, which isn't as bad as I remember it being.
It is both the Champagne of Beers (I know this, because it says so right on the bottle), and one of the most underrated beers in America. IMHO.
Oberon while grilling asparagus, mushroom kebobs, and kobe burgers.
After dinner I'll be switching to Bulleit and Coke since I'll need something stronger to handle the fiancee's incessant wedding planning.
Not that I'm an expert, but wouldn't making hamburgers with real Kobe beef be like making them with filet mignon? Kind of an overkill for ground beef patties. Also highly recommend you read this
Basically any Kobe beef bought in the US isn't really Kobe beef. It's illegal to import.
1 canadian whiskey and diet coke to take the edge off. It did the trick.
Living in Toledo, I managed to get my hands on my first Arctic Panzer Wolf bomber...delicious. Grabbed a 6er of 21st Bitter American and good ole Miller Lite to seal the deal.
Drinking 21st amendment black ipa
I now want to try Arctic Panzer. Meet me half way? I'll trade!
It took me 5 establishments over a 2 and a half week stretch to find any Three Floyds...$12 for a bomber...well worth the hunt. Bought the last 2 bottles the place had. The owner said that they hear from the 3F rep once a month if they're lucky and get dozen bottles or so at at time...so needless to say its a hot commodity. Meet me 100% of the way and I'll let you drink the dribbles at the bottom. For free cause youre a Michigan Man.
I commend your style.
My back has been killing me all day, so I'm having a few Jack and Cokes. And no, I don't mean the style that was popular back in the 80s!
You're right, Herm, we've moved past hookers and blow... in the current era, it's boats and ho's.
Schlafly Summer Lager. Yummy stuff
Got a six pack of Bell's pale ale and some left over vodka. Watching tigers game in the back yard on the deck. Go tigers!
Hope everyone makes it through the 13th ok.
Summer Shandys and maybe a few 7n7's later.
Contract review, Shandy, and Miguel Cabrera going HAM.
Shorts Soft Parade. By far my favorite beer... Besides maybe Hopslam.
Drink the Racer 5. but know its way better on tap.
Me..I'm still working, damnitall! But I'm about to go get my avatar.
West Coast is the Best Coast...
West Coast of Michigan, right?
Uh...should be :)
Ummm, did you just hit on MGoBrewMom?
West Coast (Cali) IPAs... I like Michigans west coast, but I haven't had anything close to a west coast IPA from there!
Im curious to see how they line up against PtE
But not near PTE. Racer 5 is better (IMO) than blind pig. But certainly not hard to drink any of those!
a Guinness and heard the widget jingle. Time for another one!
Water...water....water....vicodin....water....when will this swimmers ear go away :(
Do you realize how painfull swimmers ear can be? I have broke my leg, arm, have had six knee surgeries and a back surgey, and this case of swimmers ear is more painful then all of those.
until I'm off work in about an hour. Then hopefully some wine, although I did promise MGB we wouldn't really be drinking this weekend. Maybe if it's a surprise it'll go over more smoothly?
Just arrived at the cabin and cracked an Oberon. Unpacked and ready commence drinking by the fire pit. Happy weekend everyone
Traverse City Cherry Wheat from Atwater. I actually like Sam Adams Cherry Wheat better, it's a little sweeter and I always give Sam Adams credit for proudly advertising the use of Michigan cherries. But this has a really nice tart-cherry aftertaste that I enjoy. And of course, points are given for extreme localness.
Love Atwater cherry wheat. It is definitely my favorite wheat beer right now. I haven't had Whitsun yet though and I hear good things.
If you see it, try Atwater's VooDoo Vador. It is my post exam beer, it's a strong dopplebock and quite tasty.
Whitsun blows Oberon out of the water, IMO.
100% agree with you!
Whitsun takes a little getting used to, but a quality beer. I just wonder why the sudden backlash against Oberon. Two years ago, it was the nectar of the gods, now everyone likes to bag on it.
I still like it just fine. I don't go gaga over it. I never have. But was curious on the backlash.
Carry on, partakers of craft brew.
I think it's because Oberon has become a much more mass produced beer as compared to a few years ago and people think the quality has gone down as result. I still think its a wonderful beer and it's extremely good on a hot summer day, but I didn't get to experience it during the time where it was as hyped as Hopslam. I do remember the color was clearly orange, and now it's a pale gold.
Can I ask who brews Whitsun? Been drinking Oberon since it was Solsun, but am always open to new brew. Thanks.
It's Arcadia Brewing out of Battle Creek. I saw it at Whole Foods in Ann Arbor in both cans and bottles
I've always chosen Arcadia over Bells, but that could be because my parents were founders of Arcadia.
Edit: For those of us that live in Kalamazoo, Arcadia will be opening a brew house and BBQ resturant in kalamazoo soon.
Thanks MJS. Will ask my guy at the beer store at home to order some and will report in next week's (or the week after) drinking thread
No drinking tonight, starting the Mackinac race tomorrow. Going to sail nearly 300 miles between tomorrow and Monday (hopefully).
I've heard the post-race parties in Mackinac can be a good time. Thinking about heading up just for the party after the Chicago-Mackinac race.
Non-racers would probably have a better time at the pre-race parties. Post-race party requires tickets which are handed out to crew. That's not to say you can't hang out at the Pony, though.
Wish I was going this year. I'd be sailing, but my internship doesn't include vacation time. Mackinac time is the best time of year.
Homebrewed Baltic Porter that I named "Riga Mortis". Taking it easy because I am brewing early tomorrow and I don't want rigor mortis.
Jim Beam, son.
Tigers baseball with Summer Shandy, soon to be followed up by Detroit Beer Company Detroit Lager!!! Go Tigers!!
2009 California Cuve'e Pinot Noir. Not bad.
I hope you mean just feeding hay. Cuz if you're kids are out baling hay while you're in the a. c. then cps is gonna be on your ass
bombay sapphire and tonic with a twist
Try soda and a lime instead. I was huge into tonic but I am now all soda instead. Less filling, less calories and you can taste the gin a bit more. Plus, same amount of alcohol.
I'm all about the diet tonic. I don't think anyone else knows it exists, but gin and diet tonic was a constant presence in my childhood.
It is diet tonic that I'm drinking. I never drink anything but diet since I was a child. Sugar bad.
Thanks for the tip, I'll try it tomorrow maybe. I'm only having the one. That said, I really like the taste of tonic, and lime, so the booze just kind of gives it the little burn that I love.
Smuttynose IPA and a Dickel's neat
Before that, a Six Point Sweet Action and a Founders Red Rye
southern comfort on the rocks... mmmm
1997 Caymus Cabernet... been waiting a long time for this one. And it's damn good.
On the rocks.............
did you make them yourself?
Friday is normally my margarita night, especially in the summer.
When I turned 30, my wife had a surprise party for me and told everyone not to bring gifts... but if they absolutely wanted to, then they should only bring things to "stock the bar". So we ended up with a bunch of really good alcohol and some folks even branched out and bought us some stuff I had never had before... pisco (terrible), grand marnier, cointreau, etc. I had no idea what to do with half the stuff, but I definitely learned that when making margaritas, if you put in a splash of both grand marnier and cointreau (along with fresh lime juice), it is awesome!
Cointreau and the fresh lime juice. The keys to a good margarita
And half. Go Blue.
By Bruges . First had it in the knickerbocker at zingermans. Now I put that sh...t in everything
Couple drops of water.
Yeah, it's that kind of night.
some margaritas on the rocks tonight. Planning on listening to some music and smoking some hookah, maybe watching a couple episodes of Trailer Park Boys.
Not flashy, but sounds like a damn good night to me.
Holy Moses white ale. Always good.
As for the Whitsun/Oberon thing...they are both good, but Whitsun is certainly a more unique taste. Still like me some Blue Moon, though. A summer favorite around here.
Kirin Ichiban with some Red Baron pizza. And a redbox.
Seven and seven, camping. Good time
Also trying to decide whether to leave camper in Grand Haven for the rest of summer. Not looking forward to pulling it back to AA.
Can't beat a little gh. The beach at night is amazing.
Had some champagne and some wine. Hey, someone's gotta live up that Michigan "wine and cheese" crowd image!
I'm drinking a tall glass of 2012 tap water, on the rocks.
I didn't even think I hit "Enter" twice. Oh well--double post, and I'm not even drinking anything alcoholic. Now if I can just figure out how to keep my cat from sticking his head down into my glass and drinking, I'll be all set. Maybe something alcoholic in the glass will keep him from doing that.
Something something 16 hour day. Something something brewpub. Something something drunk.
Racer is a bit sweet by my tongue. Drake's is my favorite California IPA.
Ok now 21st Amendment IPA. A step down.
white wine, Soco and lime, and modelo
Till next time...
I just met Kenny Demens outside BTB. He hugged me (he initiated it, not me). The man lifted me off the ground. Really cool guy. I also got some life advice from him: "whenever you date a beautiful girl, and you kiss her, you need to grab that ass". Words to live by from Kenny Demens.
Watching the big lebowski, so I'm having a few white Russians, man
Just put out the fire and was down to silver bullets. Fun night on the lake
I know that this may not even get read except by the die hard bloggers. I moved from Nebraska to Florida this week. They have Bells Oberon, which i have missed for 3 years. There is a God! That is all i have to say. :)
