Haha I came here to say this.
FWIW. Michigan doesn't seem inclined to get re-involved.
Haha I came here to say this.
That Craig James killed five hookers at SMU?
that Craig James killed five hookers at SMU.
Ha! Five? Craig could do five over a long weekend...
The Spoon got to box one time at the Detroit Athletic Club while a young man. I found it an awesome experience. You could hear the bets for/against you coming in from the tables in the crowd. Quite the motivational tool.
Those are fantastic; back in the day, we could smoke cigars in there too. It was like living a George Bellows painting.
What the hell is wrong with that? Unlike OSU, we don't have to be dishonest about our academics or those of our opponent.
God what a non-issue. "Your coach said something mean about our coach." Get a fucking life.
The red shirts for the team for slacking off during a run was classic. I asked about the #1 Jersey and he said that when it's EARNED he would give it out.
You were there? Can you confirm said statement? Also, was there any other cool questions/responses?
But it was no big deal. Hoke didn't start it he's just finishing it. Hoke said this in a room full of adults responding to a question. I think the people on here that don't beleive he said it are reading too much into it. It would be different if he was saying that to negatively recruit but he's not.
Upon Further Review (see what I did there lolol): the genius part of all this is that if Buckeyes want to spread this rumor around, they'll have to regurgitate the bit about 30+ arrests at Florida under Urban Meyer. I don't see Coach Hoke being *quite* that Machiavellian, but his poop is more magical and more golden than Tywin Lannister.
It's entire possible that Hoke said it to the boosters off the record and then hypnotically pointed at one of them to subliminally compel him to tattle to the O-zone and twistBuckeye Nation's collective panties into a slightly yellowed and moldy wad.
Good point. All that sticks in my head is "30 arrests in five years" under Urban Meyer. I forget what the rest of it was about.
If Hoke said it, good for him. Don't start no stuff won't be no stuff! I think Urbie started some stuff
I was listening to Sirius college radio about 9:45 this morning (looks like the host was Mark Packer according to their website--I don't listen regularly enough to know him) and the host was ragging on OSU and laughing at Meyer for how weak the claims about academics are and how Hoke must be in Meyer's head to prompt Meyer to come up with something like that.
...I place some blame on Jim Harbaugh. I still think that the weird (and basically invalid) emphasis on "General Studies" telegraphed that somebody in Columbus was fixated on Harbaugh's old quote from his Stanford days.
"Hell, no!" Jim. Enjoy the NFL.
I dont like JH, but i dont think its his fault. Urban wanted to take a shot at us and he took a shot at the core of the University. You know what, if Urban wants war, lets give it to him. If I was Hoke I would bring up our school rankings and highlight it on any piece of paper.
They have the same number of guys in Communications and Family Resource Management as we have in General Studies. Are they all that different? I like how the sign cleverly left out the 96 kids majoring in spelunking or whatever the hell that one major is. When you have 8 smart walk-ons and 55 undeclared upperclassmen, it's not worth bragging about.
The OSU Football sign was dumb. It is dumb to focus on majors at all as a measure of academic demands or academic performance. It is dumb to focus on Michigan's Bachelor of General Studies degree program as somehow being lax or pointless. It was dumb, I think, to try to hold OSU's listing of declared majors over and above Michigan's list.
And, it was dumb for Jim Harbaugh to have said that a Michigan BGS degree wasn't a real degree. I know that my brother's BGS degree got him into Wayne State's Medical School, then Northwestern's residency program, then a fellowship at the University of Michigan Medical Center.
True, Dumb for JH to say it but Urban is using it. Urban wants to play with grades let him. He would like like all the puss he will find underneath the band aid.
No clue why this was downvoted for trolling. I agree with you. BGS got my friend a PhD at Harvard. Got another one of my friends a MD at UM. The list can go on. The OSU sign is pointless. And I don't know what Jim Harbaugh's issue at the time was either. Not many football teams (if any) have a team with a majority of physics majors and engineering students and pre-med students. And on the flip side, not many football teams represent one of the best public institutions in the country (ranked by non-football people).
True, my wife in an attorney and one of the more prominent attorneys she works with is a guy with a BGS from UM and a law degree from somewhere impressive (school is slipping my mind, maybe UCLA?). Either way, it's a dumb knock to make.
I love being a fan. First reaction: "No way Hoke says something like that!" Second reaction: "Yeah he said it! And there's more where that came from! You want a piece of this?"
Honestly, what is the big deal? It wasn't said to a group of Ohio high school coaches. And it isn't as if he mentioned anything about Meyer's supposed extramarital activities!
I'm surprised there's so many on this board calling bs on this. Maybe it's not true; maybe it's exaggerated; maybe it's garbled; maybe none of it happened. I don't care. Fuck Meyer, and fuck Ohio. Arrests at Florida are a fact. Ohio < U of M is a fact. I'm not even going to engage them in a conversation on this.
I am ok either way. I think if he did say something, it is marginally a mistake, but most coaches will say things that are construed to be mistakes. Coach is allowed that once in a while, he isnt perfect.
I think the academic issue brought by Ohio has really pissed him off. And I agree with Coach. Urban you want to take the gloves off, lets go.
I dont give a damn about the Ozone
Brady Hoke, master of praeterition. He's just full of surprises.
Who gives a shit?
I don't believe Hoke said that. But, if he did. Sweet. He can talk all the shit he wants. I'll back him. Go ahead Coach! Talk the talk. walk the walk.
If hoke said it, I imagine that he said it something like this:
Weeeeel, I don't believe in negatively recruiting, so I don't go on the trial and tell kids, ya know, that he last program that old urbie was at had thirty arrests in 5 years. And I dont tell kids that he is a tremendous douchebag. That's not my style. Come on, this is Michigan fergodsake.
Funny watching them fume and squirm at the same time. One poster asked, "It wasn't 30 felonies, was it?" Another one dug into the statistics: 31 arrests, several of which were alcohol misdemeanors and 12 of which were dropped. Okay. So many of them were not of the MIP type? For the "record:"
My favorite is Ronnie Wilson -- reinstated after having been charged with a firearm felony and serving a one year suspension; finally dismissed for good after his 3rd arrest.
But the best they can come up with is that Brady Hoke is fat and sounds stupid and will rue the day. What-the-fuck-ever, Buckeyes.
Compare to Hoke's handling of the Stonum situation, who had the potential to be our best receiver. First offense gets a year suspension and second offense he's gone. Also compare Meyer showing a bullshit breakdown of concentrations to recruits with Hoke cracking a joke to a private gathering of Michigan supporters, not press, not recruits. Those idiots make a living projecting all their insecurities and bad behavior onto us with zero evidence. I even saw them talking last week about how we were obviously paying these recruits we're getting. Long term memory isn't that valuable to an explorer I guess. It's not worth arguing with them.
Do you really know what Meyer's involvement was in the sign that was photographed in the Woody Hayes Center? I'm just asking. I have written here and elsewhere that I presumed that it was done at Meyer's direction, or with his approval. But I always qualified that, saying that I didn't know, and was only presuming.
Comparing apples to apples, Michigan/Hoke's handling of Stonum was slightly more lenient, but mostly the same, as Meyer's handling of Jaamal Berry.
I gotta say, these sorts of threads disappoint me. The MGoBoard membership makes itself sound more like the 97.1 listenership, than a grad school class in the Rackham Building.
Whether it was Meyer or someone else, he is responsible. He is the head football coach. They are talking about football, doesnt matter whether he knowingly did it or not. Its there and he is responsible.
Jaamal Berry already had two separate assualt cases in the course of the year, and had been suspended before Meyer came on. I'm not one to minimize the seriousness of drunk driving, but I don't think you can say this is an apples to apples comparison. Certainly, with regard to impact on each team's depth chart, there is no comparison at all. Berry was a perpetual disappointment at RB, and Meyer had to clear some space for his recruiting class. Stonum was the best player in his position group, and his departure leaves a big, big hole in our downfield passing game. Your comparison is complete bullshit, much like the OSU sign.
I know there's a minority here who think they get some kind of Rationalism Merit Badge for always being contrarian when it comes to criticizing Ohio State (or MSU.) Apparently you're one of them.
I'll bet you were one of the guys who always defended Tressel and said that any suspicion of his ethics was tantamount to the sorriest of sourt grapes.
At least admit that a comparison of Stonum to Berry is a better comparison than Stonum to... a photo of a poster?!?
I'm sorry I couldn't come up with a same-position player-of-equal-need such that we could trade them on our Fantasy College Football Criminal teams.
Jaamal Berry looked very good and very promising to me in their spring game last year, but in saying that I am of course starting the trip down your rabbit-hole of irrelevance.
Stonum and Berry; both repeat arrests, both suspended by the prior regime, both screwups after fair warning. Both reluctantly dismissed by the new guy(s). Stonum actually had more violations (citations plus parole violations) than Berry's two Columbus arrests for assaults. But all this proves is how closely comparable the two cases are. That's a real comparison, not the phony 'compare Stonum to Meyer and his sign' nonsense that I originally responded to.
I'm not sure of what you speak when you suggest that I am "one of them." But I kind of like it. Whatever you are imagining, I am guessing that I am indeed "one of them."
To solve the riddle of "one of them," look to the sentence immediately preceding the sentence containing the phrase "one of them."
I should have been clearer.
And yes; I am laughing at and ridiculing the people who started out denying that Hoke would have ever said such an uncharacteristic and classless thing, and then turned on a dime and congratulated Hoke for givin' it to Urban Meyer just like Meyer deserves.
And I am laughing at all of the same people who would be up in arms if Meyer had said a remotely similar thing about Hoke, and who would have been factchecking all the details.
I am "one of them," and I couldn't care less about any merit badges.
Yeah, well Mattison was the coach for 1/3 of the team. And it totally absolves the head coach. If he meant that line then Urban is not in control of the team. Dumb statement.
That was the attitude of a good portion of the blog with regards to RR's responsibility of our defense.
Exactly, I was a RR supporter but he is the head coach, he is responsible for all.
Its amusing, to say the least, to pass the buck to the DC. Cause we all know that DC's are the final arbiters of team discipline. Might as well pass the other blame to the OC, so that none of it can lie with the HC.
And what sorry assed attempt to try to throw the man under the bus that not only helped coach his team to one of his MNC's, he was also an intergral part of Tebow's recruitment. No surprise here, it's just another glowing example his lack of integrity, and another cheesy attempt to pander to his fanbase. He and Ohio deserve each other. Cooper 2.0 anyone?
