OT - O-zone tweet claims Hoke ripped on Urban Meyer at Detroit Athletic Club

Submitted by kehnonymous on

Because I hate myself to the point of masochism and don't always have bamboo shivs to ram under my fingernails, I sometimes listen to 97.1 The Fan in Columbus. The evening host, Adam Neft, was talking about a tweet from the O-zone beat writer. In it, the O-zone guy claims that Brady Hoke brought up Urban's arrest record, as a response to the now infamous snackademic sign at the Woody Hayes Center.

I did not hear this directly, but it came from someone on our board who was in attendance this morning.
That was Hoke speaking at the Detroit Athletic Club this morning when asked about Ohio State's poster comparing college majors to UM
Brady Hoke on Meyer: "We dont recruit negatively, I'm not going to mention 30 felonies in 5 years that happened in his previous program."

So, this is all secondhand at best. It doesn't sound like something Hoke would say out loud to the media, but who knows. It'll be interesting to see if it's true and if this bit makes the rounds in Columbus, where they still think - let's see if I can quote them directly on this - Jabbe the cHoke negatively recruited kyle kACLis to scUM /rabblerabblecoolerpoopers

They took the score down almost immediately after the game was over. I wanted a picture of the score but couldn't get it because I was too busy crying in my buddies arm. By the time I looked up they had that days since we beat Ohio clock ticking down and never showed the score again. You must have a quick trigger finger my friend.

BULL he isnt gonna give that creep any more motivation or bullitein board stuff. If he ever did it would be in his office or home between only ears that would never say anything.

at least publicly.  It reminds me of when Mike White was coaching Illinois and bringing in all the jucos.  The week before we played them, Bo said: "Illinois has a lot of good players and I understand they have a few more coming in this week."  I miss him.

It's just not something Hoke would say, he's got too much class for that.

You know, it seems to me that ohio fans just try to glum on to anything they can to either make fun of his weight, which is not as bad as they make it out to be or made up bulletin board stuff cause they see what Hoke is all about and it scares the hell out of them but they would never admit.

Probably bullshit. Doesn't sound like something Hoke would say for a variety of reasons, and it's a secondhand source given to a columbus station. Even if he actually said it, it was to boosters so it can be excused, and he's not exactly wrong about it.

It would be unwise for Urban to pick a fight with Hoke.  It's evident that Hoke has earned the respect of his coaching peers in the B10.  Conversely, Urban has already alienated himself by pissing off two of the more prominant coaching staffs in the conference.  It wouldn't take a stretch of imagination to see this becoming 1 on 11 after everyone takes sides.

Somebody (MGoBlog) had to have been there.  I think they had something like 125 people there.

Now, there was another U-M Club of Greater Detroit luncheon at the DAC on Valentine's Day with Jeff Hecklinski and Chris Singletary; I couldn't make that one either.  (Limited to the first 80 reservations.) I wonder if they are mixing up Hoke and Hecklinski?

Yeah, he's not going to mention it to the players and negatively recruit. WHo cares if he said it to a room full of coaches?

As soon as he wrote "I did not hear this directly" he should have stopped right there.   You heard this from someone that posts on your board?  Really?   One source.  Unless I hear this from other sources, I will also call BS.

Ok, so it was in response to Meyer taking a shot at UM's academics (lol), in which case awesome. I'm sure it got some laughs, it was not uncalled for, and he's right, after all. He would never say this to the press, or to a recruit, so I don't see much wrong with it.

Also, cool tactic by forcing the players to wear red after a low-effort practice. Reminiscent of Bo.

Funny it's the same O-zone who was yelling about how Meyer was destroying Hoke on the recruiting trail. I'm sure either it's probably a misquote on the 30 felonies or whatever. You shouldn't have to use negative recruiting , the parents should do their jobs and research who they are leaving their kids with. If you don't have my kids best interst in mind , I don't want him playing for your school. That goes for Alabama , Michigan or Washington and trust me I'd trade my vital organs for my kid to play for Michigan

I was fortunate enough to know someone that let me tag a long with them this morning.  I personally took no offense to this.  Someone asked the question to Hoke if he heard about the poster Meyer had made comparing Michigan FB players vs Ohio's FB players majors.  Hoke fired back a response.  No harm No Foul.  He was a lot of things today.  This was supposed to be a private off the record affair but as the moderator tolk Brady this is off the record today he responded " yeah sure it is".  He knew stuff would get out.  I did not think it was a big deal at all and actually it was quite funny.

Not a big deal. As Levenberry said, Hoke is respected because he is like a father figure. On the other hand, Meyer is more like an irresponsible uncle that some of the kids like because he buys them beer. With Tressel OSU could at least pretend that they had integrity. By hiring Meyer they have basically stopped propping up the facade of respectability and openly committed to the principle that wins are all that matters. I don't see anything wrong with putting that out there for people to see.
