I haven't been to a lot of the places he mentions, but I guess I have to wait until I stop going to those South U and State St. bars to become more civilized.

If you're under 30, cavern club won't be for you.

These recommendations made me realize again how seriously Ann Arbor needs another hotel downtown/campus.

*has preliminary plans on desk for one or two of these*

Great article, but kickoff is never at 1pm, nor is it ever at 4pm, and recently it was as late as 8pm.

And it's not impossible to show up and purchase tickets from scalpers...

That is a pretty cool article. I will admit, there are many of the restaurants in Ann Arbor that I haven't tried but I should try. I keep hearing about that Mark's Carts place, so I might have to try it next time I am wandering around. Nor have I ever done Angelo's. Anyways...

Angelo's is overrated; Broken Egg (get the San Fran pancakes or the Veggie Omelette whose name I can't recall) is king of Sunday brunch in A2. Again, IMO.

Kind of interesting that the author is a NW grad, considering the week this is being published.

As a foodie, I completely agree with all the food reccomendations except palio. Way overpriced for the quality.

I read the title and all I could think was "oh crap, what did we do."

Is Pacific Rim any good?
October 7th, 2011 at 1:39 PM ^
Pacific Rim is really good. Not particularly cheap, but really good.
October 7th, 2011 at 3:53 PM ^
Yes, seconded. One of my favorite places to eat in Ann Arbor. Mgotom is right that it isn't very cheap.

I particularly enjoy the hamachi and the scallops, but I don't recall ever being disappointed with the food or the service.

i remember being really impressed by pacific rim before i lived in a city with real restaurants, but after that it seemed like its main feature was that it costs a lot more than its worth to eat there (which is kind of a bad thing for a restaurant that isn't really that expensive in the scheme of things). so, for the truly cost-indifferent only.

I thought this was a math problem

As of 4 PM Friday, this was the third-most e-mailed article at the Times. First was "US Panel Says No to Prostate Screening for Healthy Men; second was "With Time Running Short, Jobs Managed His Farewells."
As a lifelong NY-area resident, the number of M alumni around here never ceases to amaze.

huge numbers of ann arborites (as well as people everywhere else) read nytimes.com so i wouldn't think most of the emails are coming from the nyc area on any article.

Someone needs to tell the author that the song "Main Street" by Seger isn't actually about Main Street, but rather Ann Street, where the strip clubs were located.
October 7th, 2011 at 5:10 PM ^
Thanks for clearing that up. I looked up the lyrics and didn't think it sounded like the Main Street that I know.
October 7th, 2011 at 6:13 PM ^
.....the strip clubs were near medical campus.
