this is from the 1987 world junior tourny... canada vs. russia, they got into a bench clearing brawl and if IIRC they turned the lights off in the arena to try and stop it...

check out the rosters of those two teams if you get a chance. Certainly not a bunch of goons going at it, but very talented young guys with very bright futures in the NHL. Thats part of what made this brawl special, and made World Juniors as important as it is today.

about an hour ago because i wasn't sure who was all on the teams and you're right they did have some talent.... i can't believe that there are 4 future wings that played in that game....

The Russian's were rivals with everybody during the Cold War (except the Cubans, Chinese, Vietnamese, North Koreans and other communist nations).

I love seeing the pairing up during the bench clearing.... you see guys passing certain players to find someone "in the their own weight class"... then you see two guys pair up and beat the crap out of each other... and see two other guys basically holding on to each other as they watch the fighters go at it.
And, I noticed that everyone had Jagr-Hockey-hair.

Notice, that when everyone is out on the ice fighting, the starting and back-up goalies pair off...and do nothing!

That's awesome, it looks like it's out of the movie Slapshot.
