OT: NOTY 2010 Update: A Challenger Approaches!

Submitted by Shaqsquatch on
In this article, the NOTY bloggers have brought up that, much like EDSBS with Mingo and us with Macadangdang last year, the college football blogosphere has been active in campaigning for a winner again this year: http://nameoftheyear.blogspot.com/2010/04/lets-vote-people.html Pat Angerer, an Iowa linebacker, is getting blog-driven support from the fans over at Black Heart, Gold Pants and Black Shoe Diaries. While it's strange to see Iowa and PSU cooperating, I feel like this gives a good opportunity to flex our e-might/peen. The voting post is here: http://nameoftheyear.blogspot.com/2010/04/2010-noty-chrotchtangle-regio… Currently running neck and neck with Angerer is my personal favorite of the bracket, Furious Bradley. However, this isn't a personal army call, I feel like us either supporting Angerer for a show of Big Ten solidarity, or opposing him to see if we can beat Iowa/PSU would be equally entertaining. What do you guys think? Also, I apologize if the post is a tad rambly -- I'm mid all-nighter for a math final, my head hurts.

Anyone named Furious has an instant tie to Laurence Fishburne's character in Boyz in the Hood, Furious Styles, which instantly makes them a favorite in my book. Tie in that his last name is also a first name, making his full name simply a descriptive first name, and that the name sounds like it could be a slang term for a penis and I'm sold.

You can't make up crap like this! Iowa seems to be a cool (no pun intended) name magnet institution. They have a baseball player named Zach McCool. Seriously, how cool (there it is again) is that!!! Too funny... (Good luck on Math Final)

I voted for Furious. That is just plain awesome that the dude's first name is Furious. First names like this have more "oomph" than last names, because they require a conscious decision on the part of the parents, while holding a little baby in their arms, to name him something totally outrageous. I mean, seriously, later in life it's awesome that the guy is named "Furious", but what was momma thinking at the time she named him that? "Angerer" on the other hand isn't as cool b/c you have no choice on what your last name is, it probably means something totally different in the language it originates from (or had a different meaning when his ancestors adopted that surname) and the guy's first name is pretty pedestrian. Wave Ryder is kinda cool but sounds like a surfing alias/pseudonym. So, Furious Bradley wins hands down.
