OT - Northern Lights Likely Tonight (Wed), Look to the Skies

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

Many seemed to enjoy the northern lights post of Monday night (there were actually some weak ones last night too, but not worth posting about), so I am trying to embed an article on more northern lights that are likely to occur tonight:  Long-story-short, substantial chance again this evening for a great light show.   The solar 'storm' is supposed to hit later this afternoon and depending on how far north you are how clear your skies are, there is another great chance to see the northern lights.

Will try to embed a www.noaa.gov link here:  http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/

It had lots of good info too.  And trying to link another one here:

Anyway, for those who missed Monday night, looks like tonight could be an excellent chance to see the northern lights again.   Somehow this all relates to Harbaugh, but I haven't found a scientific connection just yet.

the Northern Lights very faintly last night, too. I looked for them shortly before midnight and it took a few minutes to get the eyes adjusted to the dark, but finally was able to see some shimmering waves of light in the NE sky. Watched for about 15 minutes in the hope they would get brighter and colorful, then gave up & went back indoors. I took one more look a half-hour later, this time saw nothing. This despite a completely clear sky and relatively little interference from about a half-moon in the western sky.

about 15 miles from St Joe/Benton Harbaugh. Far enough away from city lights to have a dark sky. Tonight doesn't look promising, though, as the forecast calls for rain after midnight.

It's a result of his love for Michigan. It's the byproduct of him bonding with kids over the game of football, him embracing his roll as the next great and mighty Head Coach of the greatest damn Univeristy in the whole damn world and him using the teachings of Bo to extend his legacy that as only just begun at The University of Michigan... As a result we see his love and passion as beautiful colors of light radiating through the night sky of Northern Michigan.

Too bad it's not later in the week--I'll be camping in the Manistee National Forest, which is considerably darker than the Ann Arbor area.

I saw an incredible northern lights display in the area southwest of Alpena back in the 80's and I haven't seen them since.  My kids have never seen them, so we'll definitely be looking for them tonight.
