OT: No Florida schools in Top 25

Submitted by JJB2 on

For the first time in 30 years, all major Florida schools (The U, UF and FSU) are absent from the charts.

Seems hard to believe.

They have tons of talent.  Possible reasons:

Coaching transitions for all three.

Harsh competition and schedules.

Bad coaches.

What do you think?

Transitions to bad coaches and then asking them to play brutal sechedules will do it. Incidentally, does this mean that the state of Florida will implode and create a clear path to Gulf Of Mexico ports?

It's a pretty interesting point about the state of college football (which Michigan is a part of). The fall (or continuing derp) of traditional powerhouses that consistently bring is recruiting classes that Michigan fans would take in a heartbeat. Could be signalling a powershift in CFB that could benefit Michigan.

I feel sorry for you. You should take more enjoyment out of things and do a little less complaining. If you don't want to read something, maybe you should try just not clicking on it in the future. That way you don't have to take the time to neg every OP that doesn't meet your particular standards. Hope that helps!

Florida: Urban Meyer quit because he was "burned out."  A major part of the reason was that he was under pressure to play double-legacy QB John Brantley and change his offense to better suit Brantley.  The Brantley family is quite powerful in the alumni association.  So, they scuttled the offense that got them two National Championships in five years for an offense that fit Brantley.

Unfortunately for FL, Brantley would be a very good MAC QB.  Consequently, they are now a 4-4 SEC team at best.

FSU: Jimbo Fisher showed his lack of class when he benched senior Drew Weatherford for an unproven Christian Ponder.  When the QB's are equal, you play the senior.  Fisher vioalted this, and ensured that the best athlete in the Weatherford family wouldn't think of attending his school.

Then, of course, FSU kicked Bobby Bowden out one year earlier than he was going to retire.  Neither move was worth it.

Miami?  The second-dirtiest program in college football.  The Dade-Broward clique still runs the team, when they're not busy partying at a booster's mansion.

USF: not quite ready for prime time, no matter how badly they want it.  The best thing for USF would be for them to miss the cut when the big divide into a super-division happens in a year or two.

UCF: who?

Once again you are totally clueless. Brantley is a MAC caliber QB? He was a four star recruit (#3 QB) with offers from Alabama, Louisville, Oklahoma and Texas, among others. He's completing at 65% and has played the top two defenses in the nation.

the UF, FSU and Miami defenses are nowhere near what they used to be.

Remember FSU and Miami were nothing programs until the 70's/80's and Florida was traditionally one of the most mediocre programs in the SEC until the 80's.

Florida got blown out badly by two of the clear frontrunners of the entire FBS, not just the SEC. I was at the Alabama game, and it was actually kind of competitive until Brantley was knocked out. LSU, sheesh, who knows? We Michigan fans know what it's like to have a true freshman backup QB combined with a brand new coaching staff, and the result isn't pretty.

Not saying Florida should be ranked right now, but I don't see how any team could beat LSU and Alabama without their leader of the offense. I do think that Florida will likely finish 4th or 5th in the SEC finishing 9-3 or 8-4, and likely enter back in the rankings. I just hope they don't wind up embarrassing another B1G team in a bowl game when America thinks #19 Illinois or #22 MSU are relevant.
