if he had won 3 of hte last 4 national championships at Michigan. Let's stop with the "Michigan does things the right way" bullshit. Thats loser talk to make excuses for our mediocrity. We struggle to make the B1G championship let alone win that game or make it to the championship game. It's all a legacy and we look to the past to feel good about our program.

These coaches are paid millions to produce.  That means demanding results of the scholarship athletes who are on the team.  If you want to be a division I football player, then you need to perform up to that level.  I hope all of he kids get their degrees and make something out of their opportunity at a world class education, but I don't confuse that with performance on the football field.  It's not about babysitting or worrying about hurt feelings, it's about production.

It's not about winning nor is it about Michigan. It's about the fact that he fucking lies to kids to get them on campus and if they don't produce they get the boot esentially. Are student loans fun? I don't think so. But if you were supposed to be on full scholarship, and had to then pay your full tuition, I don't think you would care if you won or not.

When you are given an academic scholarship, do you not have to meet minimum requirements to continue receiving that scholarship?

Why whould it be any different for a football scholarship? If the player doesn't perform well enough, he didn't do his part to earn the scholarship, just as if somebody on an academic scholarship comes in and fails half his classes, they will rightfully lose their scholarship.

Well actually he told kids before they had to grey shirt because of surgery they needed the year to recover. The kid that went to Arkansas instead used his redshirt to recover and then started burning his clock. Saban is a son of a bitch but he plays the long game. He tells the kids up front how things will play out because he has to recruit in those same high schools year after year.

But that isn't enough for board members to quit their bitching about his "mediocre' 3, 4 loss seasons.

So what changed Saban from a mediocre coach just like Carr at LSU to a winner!  at Alabama?  The water?  Or is it that board members are cherry picking data points to create some imaginary coach who'll be be savior of Michigan when Brandon sees sense and fires that dufus Hoke.

Maybe Saban is just bred for coaching and knows how to build a program. Maybe he understands the Xs and Os of the game. Maybe he knows how to be a good game manager. How many times does he forget to call a timeout when the play clock is running down on a crucial drive (ala Penn State 2013)? How many times does he blame poor performance on youth?

if that is the case, we should save ourselves the trouble and cut DB loose right now.

I find that very hard to believe considering what we are currently paying Brady Hoke.  Looking at Brady Hoke's contract, it appears he is at about $2 million/year with everything included.  With incentives Hoke maybe be a bit closer to $3 million (though the way things are going he'll probably stay at about $2 million.

There is no way in hell Brandon offered Harbaugh 600k/year and hoke $2 million.

Please provide valid information in the threads instead of misleading nonsense.  It just gets in the way.

If DB wasn't willing to outbid SF at "2.5 million" as you claim (though I'd bet he makes much more in SF), with the kind of revenue we have, he should tuck it in and get the fuck out of Ann Arbor.

In that case, Dave Brandon and/or the powers that be confirmed for arrogant fucks that can't see past their own egos.

... thinking they can low-ball a premier candidate like that, they deserve to get played and dumped.  Fuck them

Guess who will pay that kind of money?  The team down south that's going to keep raping us unless we pull a miracle out of our asses.

indebted to him for whalloping MSU 49-7 the day we were getting smoked by Miss State, and beating ND 42-14.

No better guy to have on our side in the event OSU plays Bama for title.

he has few bits of advice for Hoke on how to become a championship level coach? Hate on the guy all you want about oversigning, etc., he's an ELITE defensive coach and 3 champs out in the last four years shows that. I would kill to have a coach like that leading Michigan.

I do know that he has them take personality tests like Herb Brooks did when coaching the 1980 Olympic Hockey Team as shown in the movie Miracle. Apparently he is a pleasure to be around, as long as you are doing everything perfect. Deviate from perfection at all and it gets bad.

Since he necessarily has players leave between 2-5 years that will not be much of an issue. Players can cross train to some extent but they have to be able to do both position perfect.

I know Saban also will recruit a player at one position and on the first day of spring ball inform him that he will now be something completely different. He has a set of criteria on what he wants (height/weight/speed/ etc) in a position and that is what determines if he recruits you and what position you play.

Not saying it is right or the best. I just know how he does it.

I read an interesting piece on Saban in Forbes magazine a few years ago. He uses psychologists to figure out how each and every player is motivated: one guy might thrive if he's yelled at, while another one might retreat. So Saban employs different motivationsl techniques for each player. At least that what the article claimed.

I was surprised that he had that much emotional sensitivity, and I agree: it is really smart. Getting the best out of each player, no matter what it takes and - even more interesting - not making it about him and how he coaches.

Love the story of coaching up a freshman and him getting playing time as a true freshman. Him getting an interception is just icing on the cake.

But you know Alabama is lucky since their secondary is so young.

Before the debacle of the hiring of RR the job was offered to Greg Schiano (at Rutgers at the time). He turned us down. He is now 0-8 at Tampa Bay. He could be looking for a new job soon.
