OT: NFL sunday ticket (including red zone) to be offered without Direct TV
Title pretty much says its all but for the cutting the cord fans this is another step in not having to get cable. Of course at the $199 price tag for 4 months of games its pretty expensive and might be a sign of what sports fans will have to pay if unbundling does happen.

Edit: Forgot to mention this for tablets, computers, and phone stuff and you don't need any cable, if that wasn't clear.
I would gladly pay a few hundred bucks a year to get my sports. would still save money over what I pay for cable now. everything else I watch is available online and or on network tv
According to Deadspin, it will also be available on all major gaming consoles except the Wii. I guess this was bound to happen eventually, DirecTV could only hold a monopoly on this for so long before sheer demand took over.
I'll take it. A little on the pricy side, but I've been longing for this kind of package from the NFL, and dint' think it would be coming due to NFL-DirectTv deals. I think I paid about (or almost?) that much for Sunday Ticket after the first free year. It's nice to have the option of decent quality live streams without having to buy a cable package.
Called DirecTV to set this up and was shot down - it's apparently only available to "certain markets" and to those in apartment buildings who can't have a dish.
Last year's Madden deal was supposedly the same -- had to have DirecTV or live in an apartment that couldn't have a dish. I just told them I couldn't have a dish where I lived, and they didn't put up any fight (or do any extra verification) that I can remember.
Hmmm...might have to give that a try. I rent a duplex apartment; might call and tell them my landlord won't let me install a dish and see what happens.
Whenthis happens with college sports I'll drop Dish. I do not watch pro sports of any flavor but I do keep Dish just for ESPN/ABC/B1G/PAC12. Even at 150/yr each for streaming I'd save money. I don't get any channels via antenna so streaming is my only option other than cable or dish.
Before you get too excited, check if it's available in your area. I live in Grand Rapids and the DirecTV site said that I'm not eligible, which is a bummer because I've cut the cord and stream everything I watch through my XBox 360. You can check by clicking "Get Started" at this link:
"The service is only available to those who: 1) live in apartment buildings where DirecTV service is unavailable; 2) live in metro New York, Philadelphia or San Francisco; or 3) attend college at Michigan (Ann Arbor), Alabama, Washington, Texas (Austin), USC, Florida, Colorado (Boulder), Syracuse, Ohio State or Harvard."

This is essentially the same as it was before. Except if you are a U of M student there is an exception.

summary - if you are interested in this, find someone on the board with a umich email address/use a dorm address and a pre-paid debit card that isn't tied to a billing address so they can't say you don't actually live there. A pain in the rear but worth it if you're looking to save money.
