OT-NFL Replacement Refs
Ok i have had enough of teh replacement refs to last a lifetime. If anyone else watched the end of the Packers-Seahawk game you know what i am talking about.
For one, there was a obvious offensive PI that was called defensive PI against the Packers. This keeps the Seahawk drive alive. Then the last play of the game was hailmary for Seattle, first it was the most obvious offensive PI i have seen, Tate obviously pushed Shields down. No call on this. Then Jennings intercepts the ball and Tate wrestles the ball away from Jennings on the ground. Replay clearly shows that Jennings had possession and Tate pulled it away on the ground. To top it all off, one ref signaled touchdown while the other signaled touchback as though Shields intercepted the ball in the end zone.
Fucking bullshit calls just cost the Packers a game. NFL pay the refs to avoid this embarrassment that we are currently calling the NFL.

ive been watching this packer game and...
September 24th, 2012 at 11:56 PM ^
on this blog was arguing with me that the complaints w/the refs is ridiculous and that even the real refs make bad calls...bullshit. Packers got hosed and the NFL is embarassing.

I don't know that I agree--I mean, I recall complaining plenty often of bs/missed calls by the regular officials.
But I don't recall ever once complaining that they didn't know the rules.
So there's that.
September 25th, 2012 at 12:32 AM ^
Conisistency in what you call is a pretty big deal too.
September 25th, 2012 at 12:13 AM ^
Even the real refs DO make bad calls. The problem is the replacement refs don't really know what to look for or what the rules are which means they make about ten times more bad calls than the regular refs.
September 25th, 2012 at 12:14 AM ^
but these are just blatantly bad calls and its happening routinely. It's been taken to an extreme level. NFL is a joke.
September 25th, 2012 at 12:16 AM ^
Yep. There have been egregious calls, and they game is constantly call inconsistantly right now. The regular refs were at least consistant.
September 25th, 2012 at 1:41 PM ^
I think that last play in the MNF game is overshadowing the bigger problems with the officials. I don't have any issue with the call on the field being a touchdown and I don't have a problem with the play not being overruled on replay (you would have a hard time telling me there was indisputable evidence of possession by the defender). The real thing to rail on the replacements about is the spots and general knowledge of the NFL rulebook, that is the embarassing part.
September 25th, 2012 at 9:23 AM ^
Packers for sure got hosed but I think all the anger should be directed at the NFL who refuses to give their officials more money and the officialy who refuse to take less money. (arguing which side is right in the arbitration is a separate story all together). The stand-in officials are obviously doing the best that they can, they're under unprecedented scrutiny, and--like the regular officials--they make mistakes. This one just happened to be the biggest mistake in recent memory considering the timing of the game and the stage they were on.
I feel bad for them.
September 25th, 2012 at 9:29 AM ^
To add on to this, I think the lack of consistancy is the biggest problem here. If the stand-in officials made the same ticky tack PI calls from play to play, series to series, and week to week, the players and coaches would simply adjust to it.
That's obviously not the case and if it goes on another week I think one of the Harbaugh's might actually Woody Hayes an official. Which would be pretty fucking entertaining if nothing else.

Are you trying to say that no other team in the history of college or pro ball ever got hosed by the refs, accidentally or on purpose?
I can think of a few things far worse. The Pittsburgh/Seattle Super Bowl was the worst officiating I have ever seen in a football game, and I started out cheering for Pittsburgh until I turned it off, wondering why they made the fix so obvious.
How about Charles White's phantom touchdown in the Rose Bowl? How about the "holding" penalty against Michigan on a successful fake punt in the Rose Bowl against USC, with Bo subsequently overhearing the ref who made the call say "There was no way I was going to let that son of a bitch win his last game here" while walking by the refs' locker room after the game?
Referees aren't some downtrodden people getting worked into the ground for less than minimum wage; they're people with great "day jobs" who make a lot of extra money with a very nice part-time gig. It's great that the public suddenly loves the original refs so much, but the real problem is that there are no full time officials at any level of the sport.
When the regular refs come back, everyone will give them a hall pass for a week or two, and then they will start complaining about them, too.

I was mixed on my opinion of whether or not their awfulness was overblown by the media. I'm just smh'ing at myself at this point.

you forgot the interception that was called back on roughing the passer while wilson was scrambling.
September 25th, 2012 at 12:04 AM ^
Or the ridiculous call that was clearly offensive PI.
September 25th, 2012 at 12:16 AM ^
nah he got that one in there

NFC North is wide open but that is pathetic. Though simulteanous possesion isn't reviewable. And a little OPI on the last play.

you are not allowed to hit a QB below the knees. this rule was enacted a few years ago. but it's a dumb rule.
September 25th, 2012 at 12:11 PM ^
September 25th, 2012 at 12:32 PM ^
You know that. I know that. Everyone in the country knows that.
Except the replacement refs.

September 25th, 2012 at 4:07 PM ^
then read your last sentence about stopping behind the line.
you could easily argue he wasn't moving with the ball, attempting to advance the ball or throwing on the run, though he was outside the pocket. he stopped and stepped into his throw. then was hit below the knees.
this was not an obvious blown call. but i will say again that it's a dumb rule.

September 26th, 2012 at 2:26 AM ^
my only point is that it wasn't an "obvious" blown call. a bit of a gray area there. and i hate that rule. and it spoiled a great INT by the GB DB.

i now can see that the nd game could have been 10000000000000000x more soul genocide-ing

I am not a huge NFL fan, so I don't know passion for a pro team. But my god, if this had been Michigan getting screwed in this manner I would not have a working television anymore and I would probably have a broken hand.
September 25th, 2012 at 12:02 AM ^
But, guys.... these games have become movie-esque... you couldnt write these storylines...
Calls are making these twists and turns so exciting! hahahahaha

By adding an extra couple of points to the home team's side of the spread.
I suspect it's already been done.
