Looks like Mike Vick is human after all, his fumble was returned for a Minny TD
this may be of some local interest
Looks like Mike Vick is human after all, his fumble was returned for a Minny TD
Check your email. Slight PC problem I need to clear up with you.
Back to topic at hand though, Mizzou at 25pts. Gambling Mizzou -3, Over 49.5!
BOOOO. I wanted the threads separated! I know you were behind this FA!!!
31 confidence points on Mizzou. If anyone thinks Iowa is going to win, well you are just high man.
He was first. I really want nothing to do with Brett Favre related threads.
Fair enough. I still hurt inside though.
Should have been deleted. For Favre alone.
I keed! Missed it by that much.
As for this game, starting at even, and all the player problems that have come for Iowa since, I don't get Vegas's take on this one at all. But we shall see.
That's odd, two national broadcasters brought up Harbaugh, but there was no mention of Michigan... very telling....
Your comment just created two future CC threads.
The two games should each have their own open thread.
The purpose of the open thread is so that there aren't numerous topics discussing the same game.
Expecting people to filter all their comments for two games (one pro and one college none the less) in one thread is absurd.
I know that you were excited to be the one to create the open thread but use your noggin..........
Is it really all that much different than the Open NFL thread which focuses on 10 games per Sunday? Or the Afternoon NCAA football threads
It's quite a bit different. It's not 10 games. It's 2, meaning just two threads. Also, we're talking about a pro game and a college game. A person who is interested in a bowl game is not necessarily interested in a Tuesday night NFL game, and vice versa.
And my apologies to the OP for the snarky comment. I didn't realize that FA combined the threads. With that said, the fact that a mod decided to combine the threads doesn't change the fact that it is silly.
Quite the control freak aren't you?
Expecting people to filter all their comments for two games (one pro and one college none the less) in one thread is absurd.
This is what I was really respond to. If people are expected to filter comments for ten games on Sunday, I wouldn't think two would be a big deal. Either way, neither of our opinions matter. FA said that one thread was the way to go, so that's that.
When there are only 3 football games of any variety on, I don't see any harm in having three separate threads.
As noted, the decisions has been made and, even though my evening is abolutely turned upside down because of it, I'll move on.
Quite possibly the greatest Auto-correct I've ever seen.
That's the hardest laugh I've had in days. That's awesome. Even if I could edit it I wouldn't.
Joe Tiller, I am not.
I wonder what Stanzi's take is on all the pot smoking hippies?
Pot smoking slows down the brain, and when the brain is slow, thinking about the U.S. of A. is slow...which is unacceptable.
A win for Iowa would be great for the Big 10, but they seemed to give up near the end of the season. Hopefully there's addition by subtraction.
This may be a silly question, but I have always wondered this since I played. Why if a OL flinches he gets flagged for a false start, but I see linemen moving all around when an audible is called?
I believe, until they get into a 3 point stance, they aren't truly set. I'm sure there's something more specific to it.
That's what I thought, but the Iowa TD play they were all in 3 point stances. Maybe the intent of the movement?
which tends to be locked into a 3 point stance with head up (for non-centers). saw a center this sunday get called for false start by looking up, putting his head down to snap, and then pulling his head back again.
Iowa TD! Bong hits all around...........
Hit and pass dude. Don't Bogart that bong.
By the way is there more than one Matt Millen? This dude is EVERYWHERE!
If so, then a cruel joke was played on us. Either scientists thought it would be funny to clone the dumbest man commentating or we have all died and this is actually hell.
Millen was on for literally an hour straight after the Monday night game and to have him on again tonight was just complete overload. Do the people at ESPN think this man has some fantastic insight into the game?
Although I love how Steve Young always disagrees with him.
They probably get him for pretty cheap.
Steve Young > Matt Millen. By far.
Good to see that Millen is still dealing in cliches. I just heard him say "Iowa is a physical team. They'll be physical the moment they step off the bus."
Thousands of Big Ten fans just experienced a redirection in blood flow.
Iowa looks sharper than they have since maybe MSU
2 deep man, even when Mizzou is 5-wide. It'll be interesting to see if Mizzou can consistently take advantage of it. Forcier and Stonum certainly did in the second half of the Michigan-Iowa game.
they don't blitz much, they play that 2-deep, 4-down linemen. I can't tell if they are subbing DBs for LBs to counter the spread. They are leaving the box empty on a lot of plays.
What a spot.
are fast tonight.
On teams having the same colors in bowl games? In the long shots it feels like ND-Navy.
What, no HDTV? The colors are the same, sure, but the helmets and pants vastly different.
Gabbert, arm wise, could probably hang with Mallett and Luck
Go for it!
But then, I'm not Pinkel.
If Minny DB's had stickum they would have 4 Ints. Vick seems too loose out there.
Edit: way too early to write off The Vick.
Anyone watching the NFL game as well? Eagles are looking like they're in trouble
Maybe they will show up in the 4th quarter again ala NYG. If they can do it against the Giants, they can do it versus the Vikings.
Philly giving the points not looking so hot right now.
cement Brady as MVP. Not that there was any doubt but just in case there was a doubt, just in case.
They way Coker is running I would think you go for it, but since I have 31 points on Mizzou, I'm glad they didn't.
and I didn't like that punting decision. Mizzou can obvously move the football from any location on the field, and they netted what, 20 yards? Not only is Coker running well, but the Iowa line seems to be getting pretty good push.
Regretting 4th and inches and kicking the FG.
MM : This is offense vs defense. This is Missouri. This is new age. This is Aquarius.
I heard that too. Someone should keep feeding Matt Millen crackers. That way it is at least enertaining when he tries to talk.
Can't believe the B1G is sooooo slow. Suck it Danielson.
always go with the Coke. Leave the Weed at home. Ferentz is the true genius of coaching.
Or is he a pusher man expanding on a new market?
Good thing he changed his name to Ferentz. Kirk Escobar would have given up his real roots.
His next RB star will have the word Crystal embedded in his name somehow.
philly goes for it here?
wow, think I would have called vick rolling out on that one to pick that up with a pass option. Same thing with having Denard roll out in that situation rather than having Vincent Smith lose 2 yards
Marajuana really is a gateway drug. Now all these Iowa fans are hooked on Coker.
Wowza, he really could have 5 picks.
Edit: Minny just got Denarded.
Is the Big 12 headed for some serious bowl suckage?
MM: If we had an All-State hand of the game...that would be it. Early 2nd quarter, and how much is All-State paying you to name drop?
Shut up Millen.
Maybe playing in the Insight Bowl wouldn't have been that tough. Missouri looks soft. I mean, they still would have score 50 on us, but we might have scored 60.
Clearly the Hawkeyes are playing a lot better off grass.
Make it stop...
Or is he an automaton with a cliche box that Sean Mac just winds up?
Wow. Millen just referenced "With A Little Help From My Friends".
...I get [guess] with a little help from my friends..
did Iowa lace the Tiger pregame meal?
I'd say Kirk Escobar had his team soak Mizzou's mouthgaurds with ether.
Next year. And U-Conn might have a chance.
you for got the /s for the UConn comment.
The Big 12's 3rd best team is getting waxed by an average Big Ten team. I'm wondering how good anyone from that conference is anymore. And it's not like the Sooners show up ready to play in BCS bowl games.
No doubt you are right about the waxing so far, but UConn is just an average Big East team (the highest kind in the Big East). An average Big East team versus an average ACC team proved to be not good for WVU. I think UConn beating Oklahoma is still a pipe dream.
I had blacked out how bad WV looked. Probably around the time they started to make my eyes bleed.
and having a Longhorn brother in law I've seen Big12 mediocrity first hand this year. OU is way overrated. I had not seen much of MIzzou though.
Sean had a "Wally Pipp" reference in the Insight game. Any reference to that story is an automatic win. All kids should hear the story of the guy who recruited a backup, asked for a day off, and had his backup take his place.
Lou Gehrig, the backup, played the next 2,130 games at first base. Pipp was later injured in batting practice and never became much of anything.
Never ask for a day off. You never know when the next Lou Gehrig will take your place.
For postponing the game till Tuesday because of snow?
First run play of the drive goes in for a TD on 1st and goal.
That guy is a player. He can go to the next level. There is more than 1 QB in this game. Ugh.
Channel 4 is awesome.
Edit: I really liked it.... can you tell?
This video should be double posted on any thread that mentions Millen or on any channel that pays him for his "professional" opinions.
There should have been an Emmy.
Edit: And I love the title - "Brutally Honest Television Scroll"
It just goes on and on.
The coverage is generally pretty good, and they are pasting the Tigers
receivers, but those guys are holding on. Hope Roundtree is watching....
second one gets intercepted. Jinx?
Now they all want to be Junior.
From Matt Millen to Lou Holtz. What did I do to you God?
Pam Ward, Lou Holtz and Matt Millen.
The Freep Creep Dream Team of college football analysts.
When asked about relying on Coker:
"He's got a scholarship too."
I love that. ALL of our players can, will, and do compete.
Watch Lou Holtz's take on osu....
I can barely understand a word he's saying. He needs to retire already. How can you be a football analyst if you can't even talk?
While defending his point he agrees with Mark May (exact opposite take), admits selling his team's stuff, and saying the penalty is too harshm, but one game, the next game, a bowl game, is not acceptable. Like May said, AJ Green was suspended the next game after his jersey scandal. The osu scandal has been a year in the making!
If sweatervest doesn't suspend those players, no one can say he has integrity. Even if he doesn't do it, the NCAA should step in and suspend them for that game. Somehow I think neither will happen. If Michigan and RR were involved the hounds of hell would be in AA the very next day. It is BS.
Lou Holtz sounds like a normal person speaking compared to listening to Pyror butcher the entire English language.
You know Pryor dominates the English language along with the art of apologizing.
Seriously though, he doesn't seem sincere at all from the video, and he can't even look the media in their eyes. He seems like an 8 year old who's apologizing to their parents.
I'm starting to think Pyror is going to the NFL. No way he can't be in the spotlight dominating for the first five games next year.
all I could think about was Depends?
Because he considers socks as a urinal only option for Depends. How does that image sit with you?
I don't know how it could but it got worse.
offense is all 5 wides and pussy lips. I'm glad that our team doesn't resort to small school tactics like these douche bags do.
Tell me how you really feel about Mizzou's offense.
I tried finding this offense online, but well, I got some different results.
Best. Punt. Ever.
"the returner can't let the ball hit the ground... whatever he does he can't let it hit the ground..."
No. Acutally the correct rule is that if the ball lands inside the 10 yard line, you let it go. Many ST coaches teach the returners to put their heels on the 10 to start the play and never back up to catch it.
Smoke some Koulianos and calm down. I do agree with you that Millen is a chump however.
feel sorry for the hitchhiker in that movie. Talk about the wrong car to get into... BAT COUNTRY
Maybe they should have been running Coker more the whole year? Or is Mizzou's run defense this bad?
"Mrs. Ferentz is a big fan of tight end play" - Sean McDonough
Bad throws on those last two plays.
Pythagorean Theorem passes.
Also, why do they keep asking him questions? It is like feeding a bear. Eventually the bear will become braver and spew stupid comments all over the unexpecting victim.
You can't stop the run, and if you let Stanzi throw, America wins.
Rick Six #1
When you're getting 10 yards up the middle on 1st down, there is no need to bomb it into coverage.
Ok Mark May HATES....HATES....WITH EVERY FIBER OF HIS BEING>>>>>OSU & Big Ten!! Give it a rest you"PITT I LOVE YOU IN A NON HUMAN WAY PLUS.... I EAT, BREATH & POOP BIG EAST!!"
Is it just me or does Iowa's defense look really really tired?
Looks like they are coming off their high of the first half and crashing hard.
I'm starting to like this new "Iowa = Druggies" meme.
But marijuana is all-natural, promotes good health, is grown in the good earth, and is in no way, shape, or form addictive...
Oh wait. I see what you mean.
You're probably right. Everyone is probably getting burned out by it.
You know what I need? Some more So Co. That'll keep my energy up.
I was just thinking of dipping into my gallon of Sailor Jerry's but thought it might be too late to start.
If you stop, maybe someone will suffer from withdrawal.
Why couldn't they finish squandering that 2nd half lead vs. us?!?
First a great catch over the middle of the field and now a TD. I am starting to drink the Egnew Eggnog.
The 4th quarter over the commercial break?
Still the 3rd quarter in the game I'm watching. Did you move forward in time by any chance?
Not, when they came back the graphic had it as the 4th with 53 seconds left. (Roll your dvr back. I'll wait.....All done? Good). But they changed it back. Which is bad because the game would be over now if they hadn't.
An incomplete pass can't be a overturned play can it?
And if it had actually been an INT, they could have given it to him. The return wouldn't have counted because of the whistle. Wouldn't be much different than judging a catch/non-catch for the offensive player.
If that had been a turnover, but it hit the ground first.
Personal foul call there was unwarranted.
# 91 from Mizzou looks like the kid from Superbad.
Get that thing away from me!
Incidentally, I love how the three of us have basically taken over the thread. Go us.
What she said.
The Board is ours! We are like the kids that form Captain Planet of this thread.
Polluted Earth = RCMB, MLive, and all the other rotten message boards
Captain Planet = Brian Cook, TomVH, and the other Heroes of MGoBlog
I've ever been called a "hero of MGoBlog". The villain a few times, I'm sure...
I remember you ripped me to pieces when I threw up a semi-ridiculous straw man argument one time. I was kind of mad at you for a while but my argument was pretty flawed so it's all good.
Yeah, probably. I like to argue. But of all the knock down drag out fights I've had, there are maybe only like 3 I just don't like or respect.
But now we've got a bond. We'll always have the Insight Bowl. And crappy interceptions.
Ditto. I guess we are the Dark Knights?
There has to be some degenerates watching a 3rd string bowl game at 12:38 in the morning of a weeknight. It's good to know your people. I just figure we're all in each other's living room, watching the game together. But with more gifs.
Either that or we the only ones who haven't realized Michigan didn't end up in the Insight bowl after all.
Remember when we were talking about the Motor City Bowl in 2009? And then we didn't make it?
Yeah, I'm glad we did better then the Insight Bowl too.
I think we were taking Pizza Pizza in 2010.
Or Bad Santa.
Gosh darn it, BIG TEN POWUR FOOTBAW is the BEST in AMURICA. Why can't the Hawks win the battle of field position with good old-fashioned off-tackle runs!?!!?!?!?!??!11?!!?11?!?111/
Why does Gabbert think he's an option QB? Everytime he runs it reminds me of Ryan "Oops" Mallett.
Come 1am, I will be torn if the game is still on to watch this or Conan...
Eh, Iowa is a first-half team.
Adrian Clayborn shows up for one play. Welp, that'll be all you hear from him until three years from now when he is in the UFL.
DAMN! Someone get the number of that truck!
Coker looks like Barry Sanders out there
Steal my thread, have us post in it, change your name, then disappear without a word...I felt like I was still dating. This is much better.
I was banned, so came back under "KickABitch"
This name was not very popular. FA gave me back my old username.
The thread's hoping now that Iowa scored.
Sad Sad Stanzi.
This Iowa downfall is HIGHLY entertaining. Die Hawks Die.
Not rooting for them then? I'm conflicted. I want the Big Ten to do well and I hate the many, many girls from my high school that went to Mizzou, but this Iowa heartbreaking loss syndrome this year has been sort of funny. I guess a sibling going to Iowa should have me rooting for them as well.
I think Iowa fans' egos could use a little deflating. I'm also tired of losing close games to those kids. Plus the Americanzi makes my soul bleed.
Another Ricky Int....it was this hippies fault!!!!!!1!!1111!!!!!!
It's hard to watch Iowa throw this game away - Don't get me wrong, I know it's far from over. Picks don't help things, though.
Look at Mo. If I could just find a Larry and Curly. Hey Mo!
All I can guess his Millen is doing community service for the ESPN, because they can't be paying him.
what the hell, Gabbert?
AHAHAHA. That was so entertaining. Alright, I know who I'm rooting for.
Micah Hyde FTW
Iowa pick six. 27-24
I'm rooting for the Big Ten. I don't care if there are some haters out there. I think that the nation's perception of our league is really bad, and it's time to show people why we play in the toughest league in the nation.
Iowa is determined I get every pick >25 confidence wrong.
Where only his guy could touch it, and he throws it short.
Well at least this makes up my mind on switching to Conan. I will have to flip during commercials. The Schadenfreude is too good in this one to miss.
Talk about bad defense on Iowa's part. They couldn't stop a 3rd down conversion if they tried. Losers. Good thing GERG can at least occasionally make a stop.
Please don't compare our defense to any other in the nation. Iowa total defense is in top 25, while ours... well...let's just say that out of 120 some odd teams we're right at the bottom
Punt it. You have three TO and Ricky may throw another pick.
On the field!
With swords! And pikes! Make me enjoy this game more!
Better hope there are no swords or pikes on the field.
4th and 6 conversion!
EDIT: under review
If I were a Mizzou fan, I'd feel robbed but it seems that was the right call after the review.
Ballgame. No catch
This might be the right call, but it seems like officals really don't care if there is conclusive proof or not
as he initially hit the ground. The ball was an inch or so off his hand, but granted, his hands were under the ball on impact.
If Moe's hands stayed under the ball as he bounced off the ground, then it's possible that he made the catch. But IMO, any angle showing any grazing of the ball with the ground during that initial bounce would IMO constitute an incompletion because Moe did not have control on impact. What does "conclusive" mean? That replay must prove beyond reasonable doubt, or beyond a shadow of a doubt?
Pick 6 to lose the game.
CALL THE TIMEOUT DIPSHIT!
Why aren't they calling the time-out????
The only thing I can think of is that they want to save one if they need to try a field goal but man you're making it hard on yourself by not using one there.
I'm confused about their use (or lack) of timeouts there.
Big 12 excellence in coaching there...
when you run a 5 wide offense that features passes to the sideline all day?
Timeout issue was ESPN graphic fail.
Nice call on the pass to ice the game.
You call it on the first two to for sure save time, and then put other team in position that if they throw and drop it, they'll stop the click for you. They just made it so Iowa could throw on 3rd down knowing if they dropped it Missouri could stop the clock anyway, so they couldn't eat the big chunks of time off they could by running it if the Tigers were out of TO's. And selling out on the run when they could either pass or run lost the game.
That, and the stupidest INT ever.
sick play call, nice excecution. Love it. Go Big Ten.
What a play! and damn after starting with three straight correct picks, I've gotten the last eight wrong, ugh
HA! Although I'm only 5-6.
Just watched that vid 6 times in a row. Damn it I picked Iowa to lose.
At least we can chalk this one up to pure, dumb, luck.
To get to Julie Bowen on Conan.
Fuck my life.
How long till the Military Bowl Open Thread?
Has this officially turned into the Conan thread?
Well played and well coached despite the distractions.
I am fucking terrible at picking bowl game winners. I think I have 2 right picks thus far despite picking 55% during the season. It's a good thing I'm poor and can't actually bet money.
Most of this bowl season has been an epic clusterfuck for those of us with a confidence pool. I mean, seriously, EVERYBODY and their mother had Mizzou. Pretty much everybody had Southern Miss over Louisville. Most everybody had Toledo over FIU (bad spot!). This has been an exciting and frigging annoying bowl season.
...who the hell would have thought of that?
Welcome to some NFL bench Blaine Gabbert; I'd like to introduce you to Alex Smith, Bruce Gradkowski, Chris Simms etc. etc. etc.
Chad Henne clip on Conan!
