OT - NFL Fantasy Football Roster Critiques

Submitted by MLaw06 on

As we ramp up for Michigan football, we are also heading closer to my favorite virtual sport - NFL Fantasy Football!  I thought it would be great if we can pick each other's brains and critique our fantasy rosters for the upcoming 2013 season, starting with mine below!

QB = Drew Brees (NO)

WR1 = Dwayne Bowe (KC)

WR2 = Andre Johnson (Hou)

WR3 = Antonio Brown (Pit)

RB1 = Adrian Peterson (Minn)

RB2 = Maurice Jones-Drew (Jac)

TE = Greg Olsen (Car)

K = Matt Bryant (Atl)

Def = Houston

Bench QB = Eli Manning (NYG)

Bench RB = Rashard Mendenhall (Ari)

Bench WR = Sidney Rice (Sea)

Bench WR = Michael Floyd (Ari)

Bench TE = Martellus Bennett (Chi)

Bench Def = Baltimore

That is redicilous. SO. What do you guys think about Steven Jackson? I drafted him in the forth round. I had the first pick in a 6 team snake draft. After AP, I went wide receiver happy and picked up AJ green roddy white and others including Coltson and Nicks. Jason Witten is my tight end. But I also picked up Gronkowski late. What are the outlooks for Gronkowski and Steven Jackson?

The Falcons staff has been publicly obsessed with Jacquizz Rodgers for unknown reasons, so Jackson might get less than half the carries because of stupid things. Fourth round isn't too much of a big deal, though.

Gronk is a huge gamble at this point due to injury stuff. Hope you didn't waste a high pick.

You got really good receivers, especially if you're in a PPR league. Same with Witten.

Thanks. With the last pick I picked up Sydney Rice. Then I dropped him for Gio Bernard. Are there any other sleeper running backs? Yes, I have AP, but with Steven Jackson splitting time and Gio being a rookie. Okay look. I goofed. I went way to happy with receivers after I drafted AP. I'm not to worried about QB, because it is a 6 person league. But I need RB help.

But in a league bigger than 6, they wouldn't be. David Wilson is a good one...Bradshaw is gone and it's pretty clear NY wants to feature Wilson. Ryan Mathews has evidently stayed healthy, but you can pick up Danny Woodhead if you're confident Mathews will get hurt.

Mendenhall, LaMichael James, whomever backs up DeMarco Murray, and whomever wins the Rams' starting job are also decent options.

If your buddies are dumb enough to have left LeSean McCoy on the board, make them pay.

For the record, this is why I always make my league draft date AFTER the entire preseason. It minimizes injury risk and paints a bit of a better picture.

Haha, that makes me feel good!  But, to answer your question, there are 10 players in the league.  I'm actually playing on Yahoo FF Pro, playing for cash winnings.  So yea, supposedly, the other guys put some thought into their picks because its for real money.

I actually don't know how this is legal (I would have thought this is gambling to some extent), but apparently, Yahoo is ok running this.

Its legal.  Your concern, my guess is, is the federal law prohibiting online gambling.  The law differentiates between luck and skill.  If the game is one of skill, its legal.  Also, if the game is specifically exempted, its legal.  Fantasy sports are exempted (and arguably a game of skill), so its legal.

I wrote on the UIGEA back in law school, so I'm pretty familiar with it, FWIW.

Is this a money league? Do you have to pay for pickups? That's the only way I could see drafting two D's and two TE's. What was Denard listed as position wise? He might turn out to be a decent handcuff for MJD if he can beat out Forsett.

I would consider dropping Baltimore D, possibly for another running back. Defense doesn't win a fantasy championship, and judging by the rest of your team, I'm sure your opponents left some potential stars on the wire.

Also, and this is purely my own personal bias so take this however you want, trade Andre Johnson immedaitely for Larry Fitzgerald or a package deal someone who is poised to break out like Randall Cobb (seriously) and a rookie RB. AJ is getting old and has had too many health issues where he was a (VERY) late scratch or had to leave a game early because he aggravated something. He is not worth the headaches and stress, trust me. This is 3 years experience of Andre Johnson ownership in at least one of my leagues.

My gut feeling says hold him. He seems a tad undervalued right now because of the ankle injury, but last year he had his highest YPC since '06. I think he will be fine. I think he's still got another year of top 5-ish play in him before the reverse Benjamin Button curse hits him.

That's a pretty sick team.  Nicely done.

Here is my team.  12 team.  We do keepers and allow draft pick trading and such and I think i took great advantage of it. (Amendola and Lamar Miller were kept in the 15th and 16th round.  My last skill position pick, Hillman, was in the ninth)

QB: Matthew Staford

RB1:  C.J. Spiller

RB2: Lamar Miller

WR1: Danny Amendola

WR2: Demaryius Thomas

FLEX: Dwayne Bowe

TE: Kyle Rudolph

D/ST: Texans

K: Phil Dawson

B: Andre Johnson

B: Le'Veon bell

B: Ahmad Bradshaw

B: Jordy Nelson

B: DeSean Jackson

B: Giovani Bernard

B: Ronnie Hillman

I think Bell will have a very good year, but I have heard nothing but disappointing things about Ball. He might vulture some short yardage TDs, but the trajectory seems to be "Hillman and Ball will split until Ball takes over" to "Hillman will be the primary back with Ball working his way into a RBBC" to "Hillman is taking all the first team reps and Ball is struggling."

Why not? Critique away. 10 team league. PPR. I won last year so I had the 10th pick. Got stuck with mostly potential sleepers on the bench for WR.

QB - Colin Kaepernick

WR - Reggie Wayne

WR - DeShaun Jackson

WR - Michael Floyd

RB - Ray Rice

RB - Trent Richardson

Flex - Frank Gore

TE - Jason Witten

K - Dan Bailey

D - New England

Bench:

Giovanni Bernard

Chris Ivory

Aaron Dobson

Ryan Broyles

Cordarelle Patterson

Jay Cutler

Denard

I think Michael Floyd will have a good year (getting more catches in lieu of Percy Harvin).  Ray Rice is always solid and Trent Richardson is reliable.

Frank Gore is a great TE and usually doesn't get injured.

I don't know who's on NE defense anymore (didn't they just pick up half of the Rutgers team in their draft). /s

How the holy flying shit stain did you draft that team?  What kind of morons are in your league? Even a league of 6 teams with the other 5 guys on autopick during the draft would've prevented a roster like that from happening.

YakAttack

August 14th, 2013 at 3:21 PM ^

but I have to pick 2 keepers from the following. All TDs are worth 6 including passing. I also dominated the league last year so I get the 14th pick in the first round.

QB: Aaron Rodgers, Matt Ryan, Kaepernick

RB: Doug Martin, Trent Richardson

WR: Colston, Wayne, S. Moss, Garcon, McCluster

TE: Owen Daniels

K and D/ST: I play weekly matchups

I'm thinking Rodgers and Ryan. I hate to give up two 1st round RBs, but QBs outscore them by a mile. Also pissed since the draft order rule just got passed and I lobbied to keep more than 2 (before the draft last year) but got outvoted.

EDIT: We have an OP position that can be a QB. So both would be in the lineup

Some of these teams are unbelievably good.  Holy cow.  Here's my 14 team league team.  I recently just traded Darren McFadden for Lamar Miller and Vincent Brown.

QB: RGIII

RB: Marshawn Lynch

RB: Lamar Miller

WR: Pierre Garcon

WR: James Jones

WR: Kenny Britt

TE: Brandon Pettigrew

Flex: Reggie Bush

K: Greg Zuerlein

DEF: Arizona

------

QB: Matt Schaub

RB: Fred Jackson

RB: Bernard Pierce

WR: Vincent Brown

WR: Greg Little

Critique away.

QB: Matthew Stafford / Jay Cutler

RB: Frank Gore / Marshawn Lynch / Montee Ball

WR: Andre Johnson / Lance Moore / Reggie Wayne / Michael Floyd / Desean Jackson

TE: Jermaine Gresham / Dallas Clark

DST: 49ers

Bolded are presumed starters. Not sure what to do with the TEs right now...

I just got done with my draft. I'm just going to run down in order 1-16 and put a * next to my starters. I'd lim,e to know what y'all think.

RB -- Doug Martin*
RB -- MJD*
Flex-- Stevan Ridley*
WR -- DannyAmendola*
WR -- Vincent Jackson*
QB -- Robert Griffin III*
WR -- Mike Wallace
RB -- Giovanni Bernard
QB -- Tony Romo
WR -- Tavon Austin
TE -- Jared Cook*
K -- Blair Walsh*
WR -- DeAndre Hopkins
DEF -- Rams*
RB -- Ben Tate
WR -- Aaron Dobson

Thought about drafting both the Browns defense and Jordan Cameron as my TE at backups but they are sitting there in FA and probably will for a while if I need them. Handicapped the Foster possible injury and Dobson/Brady connection instead

It's a PPR league too.
