OT: NFL Draft / Who Do You Want Your Team To Draft? OPEN Thread

Submitted by Mr. Yost on

I wouldn't create this type of thread if either Football or Basketball were in season, but since it's the slow period, I feel like it's okay.

That said, are your more following Michigan players in the draft or do you have a team? Who do you want your team to draft? Where do you think Michigan's players will be drafted?

Any and all discussion is welcome...

If Fisher is available then I hope they take him. If not then dee milliner. Ziggy Ansah is too much of a risk and the Lions could find a solid DE with their second pick.

which means I don't want any of them to end up with the Lions, or with any of the other sad-sack franchises. It would be just like the Lions to draft head cases like Mathieu or Teo.

In the early rounds, I would prefer that the first three picks be - positionwise - OL, DE and CB in no particular order necessarily (although addressing the O-line and and end positions would be nice to get out of the way). I would think Eric Fisher, if available, would be a nice choice for the Lions if we go with OL help early. The safe pick - if available - for DE is probably Bjoern Werner, although Damontre Moore might not be a bad get here either. DeMarcus Milliner - if available - would be a great get too, but I wouldn't complain about Desmond Trufant at CB either.

I saw in this article in ESPN the Mag where the Lions 3rd round pick at 65 overall has more surplus value than the Jaguars number 2 overall pick. Hopefully the Lions don't fuck up their top 3 picks this year. I agree with you on those 3 positions being an absolute must for their first 3 picks. I would love to see Fisher in round 1, and depending on who is available in round 2 and 3, the best available corner or DE.

Fisher is a LT but no way he lasts that long. We (Chargers) have the best chance at getting Lane Johnson to drop to us, but of course he's shooting up draft boards right now...New GM Tom Telesco wants to have better team speed and what better way than to add Denard into the mix of the many many possession WR's the Chargers currently have.

Yeah, I don't blame you at all. I wouldn't want my team to leave town either. But if LA gets a team, I'd rather it be the Chargers than the Raiders or Jags or Rams or something. But yeah, I love SD, and if I lived there I wouldn't want to have to come to LA to see my team play. I wouldn't want to have to come to LA for anything, for that matter.

Long Answer: IMHO our two biggest needs are our outside pass rush, and offensive line. We have issues in the trenches. I think we need another corner besides Chris Houston, but I don't think it's our biggest need anymore. Our secondary last year was devastated by injuries more than lack of talent. We had 7 different safeties record multiple starts last year, but I think our secondary is already vastly improved over last years by returning Delmas and Spivey healthy. Bringing in Glover Quinn was huge and bringing back Ricardo Silva should also help our depth.

Offensive line depth is obvious. I think we could improve our entire defense by getting after the passer better. Draft a OLB/DE type and everybody's job gets a little bit easier. Watching Mattisons recent interview talking about the South Carolina game and getting after the passer helping the secondary makes me feel that even more.

Our first two picks should be between a top OT and a potential top OLB/DE whos stock fell for no good reason after the combine. Barrett Jones could potentially fall to the 3rd round at this point and would be a great value get to replace Raiola if he's still available the third time around for Detroit.

Short Answer: 1st Luke Joeckel or Eric Fisher. 2nd Jarvis Jones. 3rd Barrett Jones.

I don't see Jarvis Jones falling to the 2nd. I think the Bears might be a player for him at 20 if he is there and a couple teams after the Bears could take him as well. I'd be very surprised if he fell into the 2nd. But then again, a lot of teams could have a no draft on him with his health and off field problems.

if Jarvis Jones was still there the Steelers took him at 17. No doubt in my mind he could play inside for Pittsburgh like he did at Georgia. If he's gone, and Kenny Vaccaro is still there, that would be another good pick.

Second Round, hopefully, DeAndre Hopkins. Big body, very quick and has strong hands. If not him, maybe Eddie Lacy. Justin Hunter, Ryan Swope and Robert Woods would be picks I wouldn't mind as well.

Third Round I would like Montee Ball is Lacy is gone and Ball is still there. John Jenkins would be a nice pick too if Ta'amu can't get his shit sorted. Hell, if Barrett Jones is there, they might take a punt on him and I would not mind.

FWIW, In Kiper's 3 round mock draft, he has Denard going to the Bengals in the 3rd round (84 overall). This might not be a bad team for him to land on with a superstar WR already on the roster to learn from. Here is his brief take:

"Finally, late in Round 3, I grab Robinson. This draft is extremely light on players who scare defenses with the ball in their hands, and Robinson is an interesting guy to experiment with. Offensive coordinator Jay Gruden can find ways to get him the ball."

I like taking either Joekel or Fisher in the 5 spot, but I believe that there is a great chance neither is there. If both are gone, select Milliner (or as a backup to that pick, take Chance Warmack). In the second round, I would take the OL out of UO Long. I  like him at guard.

Tampa desperately needs help at corner. I'm really hoping they grab Revis, pending a physical, but that entire situation with the Jets is one big clusterfuck. If they don't get Revis, I hope they trade up to grab Milliner. After that, maybe even another corner like Jonathan Banks out of Mississippi State. A little help on the defensive line would be nice after that, and then maybe, just maybe, a slot receiver. With is where I'm hoping they take a gamble and draft Denard. They've got a great setup with Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams, but great teams have 3+ reliable options to throw the ball to.

Trading up for Milliner would be good, but I wouldn't mind trading back. Get more picks and don't reach for the other CB's. Maybe get Minny's 2 first rounds or somebody's 1rst and 2nd. If we trade with Minny, get the best CB and Eiffert. Then depending who's available the best CB or DL available. Take the opposite of round 3 in round 4 and a QB. Hopefully Tyler Bray.

Eric Fisher or even Chance Warmack at 5 for the Lions, in the 2nd I'd like the best DE available so maybe a Margus Hunt or Alex Okafor. In the 3rd I think they should get the best CB or best WR that's there do a David Amerson or Robert Woods. I really and I mean really would hate picking Milliner at 5, he's nowhere near the playmaker the lions need, he's solid but he's not a game changer.

My 49'ers go with the best available DB on the board. Then in the second they can take a Bjoern Werner and jump in Marcus Lattimore and in the 3rd grab Denard.

I would really like to see my Vikes trade up to the 10-15 area to snag Austin. The offseason has been solid but we realllly need a stud WR to take the top off the D. I don't think he's worth trading both of the late 1st round picks we have, but on the other side if we have to give up those picks, that takes us out of Teo territory. Ideally we can trade up with a 1st+2nd and take a LB with the other 1st round pick....after the Bears select Teo of course (please please please). Later on, I wouldn't mind seeing Honey Badger in the late 2nd-3rd...we can handle that personallity. Swope in the 4th would be solid if we pick up a LB in the 1st. I'm still hoping we give Breaston a shot, if he can heal up he'd be a great weapon.

Would like to see them get Milliner. Unfortunately, I think Mayhem likes the current CB core. They've done nothing to help the DE position but looks like an OT will be selected.

1. Xavier Rhodes (trade down to acquire a 2nd rounder) 2. Bjoern Werner 3. Matt Barkley 4. Marquise Goodwin 5. Akeem Spence 5b. Brian Winters 6. Joseph Fairia We need a CB, a young QB a TE and line depth (offense and defense)

I want Ansah at 5. Has the highest upside of any player in this Draft, and is not as raw as everyone thinks. He’s just inexperienced (there’s a difference). I’d be ok with Fisher but he didn’t dominate the MAC like you would expect a top 5 pick to, and Milliner would be a reach at 5 (most overrated player in this draft IMO). This would be my ideal mock for the Lion’s right now 1.Ziggy Ansah DE BYU 2.DJ Hayden CB Houston 3.Travis Frederick G/C Wisconsin 4.Luke Marquardt OT Azuza Pacific 5.Courtney Gardner WR Sierra CC 6.Lawrence Okoye DT/DE/ATH Enlgand 7.Vince Willams OLB FSU

As a Lions fan I'd have no issue taking Mathieu if it was in the 4th or later but I think people will be shocked at how high he goes. If he makes it out of the 3rd round I'd be surprised. Just that kind of year, in my eyes. Manti will also go higher than some think. Low 20's at worst, IMO. The guy who will sadly fall VERY far (but for obvious yet unbelievable reason to some) is Marcus Lattimore. Some still consider him a 3rd rounder but I see him being the guy that the "experts" are shocked slips to the 6th or so.

And I'm hoping we have more than just Denard drafted. And I can't wait till we actually have a lot of guys to watch ger drafted in days 1 and 2.

as a redskin fan I'm so glad we don't have a 1st round pick this year. this is one of the weakest 1st rounds I've seen. All I want when we pick in the 2nd round is a decent DB or WR.
