I figured I'd start an open thread for all of our NFL draft needs. About 40 minutes until it starts. C'mon St. Louis take Bradford. My Lions need Suh.
mesmerism! presidential assassinations! circuses on fire!
Agreed. Suh is a difference maker this team needs on defense.
that over the last 10 or so years, more DTs taken in the top 5-10 picks have been busts than any other position. DTs are a big risk taking in the top 10.
Anybody else conditioned enough as a Lions fan to actually expect the worst and watch the Rams draft Suh?
The thought has crossed my mind. However, I am prepared for this possibility. As evidenced by this handle of vodka.
You think that's creepy? You should see what I keep in my closet.
I honestly hope they do and then we swing a deal with the redskins to swap 1st rounders and take Haynesworth. Dominate DT and a future LT.
I've seen several people here suggest this move. The Redskins would never do this trade. The people they would take at #2 (either Okung, Williams, or Berry) will be there at #4.
All about Suh baby, I'd rather have Suh than Haynesworth and Okung, who will be the next Stockar Mcdougle. Stockar Mcdougle, by the way, a native of Deerfield Beach, Florida, same as D-rob. Too bad he couldn't get any of that dilithium.
And then watch the Lions pick Bradford.
Quarterback: the new Wide Receiver of the Detroit Lions draft strategy. Please god, no.
rams draft bradford
lions take dez bryant
(i'm still haunted by this nightmare, even though he is gone...)
Please continue not to suck.
The draft is on ESPN right?
And the next day and the next day.
if you want variety.
I will be disappointed if we draft Suh at #2 considering how deep this draft is for Defensive Linemen.
deep in defensive linemen, but not dominate, game changing linemen like Suh.
Suh won't be dominant in the NFL. If you want a game-changing D Lineman take a pass-rusher. The gap in production between Suh and the #3 or #4 DL on the field next year will probably not be as great as the net benefit of taking the #1 player in another position of need.
When I said pass rusher, I should have been more clear and said outside pass rusher.
Suh was able to push around guards last year a lot more than he will be able to in the NFL. Most of his sacks come once the QB starts to scramble after the DEs have forced the QB out of the pocket. That won't happen in the NFL and it especially won't happen if we don't sure-up our secondary or get outside pass rushers.
Suh had 12 sacks getting constantly double teamed, I'd say that's a pretty effective pass rusher. He's the only player in the country that at one point I thought, "Hey, he's better than Brandon Graham"
I think I would be okay with trading down to get an LT and picking up an extra quality pick or two. If they don't trade down, though, and just take Okung or whoever over Suh I'll probably be disappointed. Dude launched a guy seven feet in the air and ten feet across the room on that ESPN Sports Science thingy.
We need 100 percent pure Columbian Awesomeness, and I think Suh will be a game-changer.
The most likely option is to take Suh after Bradford is taken at number one. Bradford not getting picked up at number one would throw this draft into a frenzy. I expect us to get Suh, and I'm pretty happy with that. Our DLine should be a good strength for this team. I'm a little more interested to see what we can get in the second round, though. Best could be a solid pick at #34.
Funny that some are selling Suh short. Seriously, if they pass on this guy, they will regret it.
so it is only fitting that the Rams pick him.
Look at their recent draft history, it is nearly as bad as the Lions over the same time period.
2000 #31 Trung Canidate RB Arizona
2001 #12 Damione Lewis DT Miami (Florida)
2001 #20 Adam Archuleta DB Arizona State
2001 #29 Ryan Pickett DT Ohio State
2002 #31 Robert Thomas LB UCLA
2003 #12 Jimmy Kennedy DT Penn State
2004 #24 Steven Jackson RB Oregon State
2005 #19 Alex Barron OT Florida State
2006 #15 Tye Hill CB Clemson
2007 #13 Adam Carriker DE Nebraska
2008 #2 Chris Long DE Virginia
2009 #2 Jason Smith OT Baylor
I want the lions to get Eric Berry more than ant other payer in the draft. with him and Delmas patrolling the secondary, we wouldn't even need corners. I don't think this will happen obviously, so Lions, please don't fuck this up.
Rd 1 = Suh
Rd 2 = Toby Gerhardt outta stanford.
Actually I have read that they are pursuing Keith bullocks and one other OLB for that position, FWIW.
Could they take a PSU backer?
I'm afraid of the Rams taking not Suh and then the Lions taking not Suh. I am going to watch hopefully and gleefully for us to take Suh, but since this IS the Lions we're talking about, I can't help but shake the feeling I'm going to watch the Rams take Bradford and just when I'm ready to celebrate, we take someone we have no need for and get the "He was the best player available" bit about it later.
I'm still holding out blind hope that nobody will pick up Graham and we can snatch him in the second round. That would make my entire weekend, short of acing my Diff Eq final tomorrow. Oh wait... *Leaves to study*
would be Okung or Berry. And I don't think anyone can honestly say the lions don't need a left tackle or a safety.
I want Berry, but I wouldn't complain about Okung.
I'm not really enamored with Gerald McCoy.
If the Rams were to take Suh, does anyone think that would help our chances to trade down? I could see Oakland or Buffalo trading up to take Bradford. At that point we could take an OT, Eric Berry, CJ Spiller, Derrick Morgan, or Rolando McClain - whichever is left. I think that would be our best option at this point.
They've completely ruined the Draft. What will they ruin next?
I understand the "Lions are idiots" theme we have going in this thread, but it might be time for that to pass. Just take a look at what Martin Mayhew has done in the 2 years he has been in charge. Starting with the Roy Williams trade, last year's draft, and this offseason's moves, I think it might be time to trust that he might know what he's doing.
Millen is gone (thank you Jesus!), and hopefully is the moribund state we find our Lions franchise.
Maybe I'm just slathering the hot butter all over my Lions cornbread, but I'm on board...
might be listening! We want us some Suh!!!
talking on the phone, either he's talking to some hot chick or he's talking to the St. Louis brass...
Time for Suh at no. 2.....
Either that or some blockbuster trade
suh on the phone...oh please not the dong...
Looks like the Lions finally found a spot and a pick that was so obvious that they couldn't fuck it up. This is the first pick I've been excited about since Barry Sanders.
I really didn't think that was going to happen, excellent!
About to get Suhed. Hope your lawyer double doctored in medicine Favre, because you're going down this year.
Coors Light Home Draft: New item on my grocery list.
LET SUH ITTTTTTTTT
(someone needs to tell him that to get the Lions back to the promised land, they had to have been there before)
