OT: NFL Draft Day 2 Open Thread

Submitted by M-Wolverine on

OK, it's still early, but the board is slow, and I've had enough of Sportscenter reruns hearing what they think of round 1, and while Day 2 isn't as exciting as Round 1, there may be some interest (and it practically carries us right up to the Red Wings game start). So till they hit the podium, who were the winners and losers of day 1 to you?

I hope I'm wrong, and it's NOT off-topic, but I'm thinking our players don't get drafted till tomorrow. So the Pats are on the clock. And are probably working on trading it as we speak.

Well this is where it gets weird... Depending on what the courts rule, on rules for free agency, the NFL could have anywhere between 175-400 free agents (using round numbers).  So cap room will completely hinge on who actually becomes a free agent.

Redskins need to stop trading down. I keep getting excited for Mallett and the see they traded their pick yet again. You cannot build a team with a bunch of 6th.

I was reading an article awhile ago that was talking about scouts calling Mouton one of the most underrated LB's in the draft.  Looks like they were right.

Pro Football Weekly draft analyst Nolan Nawrocki: This is the first "wow" pick of the draft. Mouton is a converted safety who graded out in the sixth round. He does not play with much physicality and likely was drafted to help fill the Chargers' shortcomings in their nickel defense. GM A.J. Smith reached big time to fill a need pick with ILBs Kevin Burnett and Stephen Cooper both unsigned and potentially not returning.

For mallet, I could see 4 teams taking him. Oakland, dallas, buffalo, or seattle. I have a feeling we see stanzi get taken first, but my guess is one of those two quarterbacks are taken at 68 by buffalo.

I'm not sure if anyone else has said this yet but I was reading an article about the likely hood of Martell Webb getting drafted in the later rounds to be a blocking TE! I thought that was pretty impressive since he was an after-thought in Rich Rod's system..

I really like their draft so far. Got a LT of the future that can also play LG this year and got the playmaker they need in the return game and in the slot.

I called them trading out of the first for a team looking for a QB, and that was about to happen with the Bengals, and with that pick they would take Cobb in the second. It might have turned out better since they got a good player at 32 and Cobb at 64. Now just need to find a OG/OLB/ and a S or CB.
