OT: Next to get "The Beckman"

Submitted by crg on
About a year ago we were treated to the Illinois innovation of a pre-season firing if its head coach - a move I expect to be known in the history books as "The Beckman". So this question is this: who should we expect to get "The Beckman" next and when (e.g. this season, next season, etc)?

The most qualified person to fill this job is Gregg Daniels aka 'Free Beer' from the Free Beer and Hot Wings Morning Show. He is smart, hates pukers (namely Pam Ward) and has been a play-by-play guy for the national radio broadcasts for Compass Media for years. Oh yeah, he is also a lifelong M fan. Please, God, save us.

I'm anticipating a weird and twisted sex triangle scandal involving Rick Pitino and Bobby Petrino except instead of being fired they'll both receive contract extensions.

So they should at least give him a couple of years. He already whipped up the fanbase to hate Michigan......Oh wait, he used to coach at OSU so thats the first thing he was taught when he went there how to hate UM. Well if he can get the recruits in New Jersey to hate Michigan then.....Oh wait they will go to OSU or Alabama. Well if he can instill these kids some cheesy acronym that will teach the kids how to.......Oh never mind. Just be thankful we are not Rutgers. Go Blue!

Western Michigan is Illinois' 3rd game on the schedule.  Before opening this thread, I thought the thread would be in reference to Larry Fedora's somewhat bizarre hiring of Beckman.

I get why Beckman would take the job, in his mind he can now "get back at Illinois" (as if UNC will likely need much help to beat Illinois).  I don't know why Fedora did it.

Oddly-timed firings like that are usually a result of either one big or several substantial off-field incidents, not results on the field.  I don't really think you'll see a firing like that over on-field performance at that time.  Beckman was let go because of alleged abuse off the field (and probably also just for being a giant ignoramus).

Other incidents like this I can think of are these:

Mike Leach at Texas Tech, December 2009 (alleged abuse of Craig James' kid).

Mike Haywood at Pittsburgh, December 2010 (on the job for two weeks before being fired for not his first domestic violence-related arrest).

Mike Price at Alabama, May 2003 (on the job for six months before being ID'ed at various strip clubs and soliciting prostitutes).

There may be more, but those are the few that came to my mind.
