This is awesome news. I wonder why they didn't decide to drop a trailer with The Force Awakens.

I am confused as to why you're asking us if you thought it was going to be a teaser trailer.

Regarding your other statement, Darth Vader is in this movie, but it will be for a short time. The story is about Rogue Group and stealing the Death Star plans, not about jedi versus sith.

Nope. It's the first of a series of separate, self-contained stories. I guess the reasoning was that they had built up so much of a mythology around the series that there were a ton of interesting stories to explore that might be tangential to the Skywalker-focused trilogies.

Supposedly they're shooting this as a morally grey, gritty war movie. Which could either be really really excellent or really terrible. Not sure how it will turn out. I feel like the floor for this idea is Batman v. Superman and the ceiling is unknown.

Excited either way though.

Thanks. Not sure how I feel about this. If they start putting these movies out every year, I wonder if the quality will be consistently there.

Kind of like when the original Star Trek movies kept coming out and got to critical mass. By then the series was just meh.

I'm hoping for the best, but kind of get the feeling that Disney may try to squeeze every dollar they can out of the momentum they gained with Force Awakens...for better or worse.

I understand your concern, but I don't think it's an issue becuase the stand alone films can be filmed without any of the same actors, directors, or even writers. So they can have two great projects happening at once. The key is that they keep everything together properly. I trust Disney.

Let me simplify that for your: "Nope. It's the first in a series of more obvious money grabs by disney.  I guess the reasoning is that since they just remade A New Hope and people paid for that, they can just throw "Starwars" on any script and make mint."

Personally I'm waiting for "Plan 9 from outerspacewars, a starwars story"!

Most every movie that is bankrolled by a major studio is a money grab. They're businesses. I like Star Wars, so I will be excited about these movies until they are proven to suck. At which point, I will stop.

Until that point, however, I'll enjoy them for being fun movies that remind me of my childhood and try to fight off being this jaundiced in my worldview.

This may or may not be the reason my wife is watching "The Force Awakens" on streaming as we speak. She is far more a Star Wars person than I am (resident Star Trek fan, in my case) and has been letting me know that the trailer for the new movie is coming out tomorrow for a couple hours now. Being the person that I am, I'll probably jump on the trailer and go see the film when it comes out all the same.

I work with one. Loves Star Trek. Watches old episodes of the original on vhs almost every night. He also thinks Star Wars is hot garbage and says anyone who finds Star Wars entertaining needs their head examined...worst movies ever made. He is extremely passionate.
Me? I'm with you. I can appreciate both. I happen to like star wars a little more but I like Star Trek too.

One is a space opera that is basically epic fantasy and the other is Sci Fi with a more philosophical bent. I'm more of a fantasy guy so Star Wars has an appeal to me that Star Trek can't match. It's not that I dislike Star Trek, I just don't get hit in the feels by it the way Star Wars gets me.

I'm pretty pumped about this. The Star Wars x-wing series of spinoff books is great. I'd love it if they worked it off in that direction, but they probably don't want to pay Michael Stackpole so I guess we will see. Hope it's a good movie, though.

I just hope they find a way to bring back Vader into this movie, whether he's a central character or he might have a few mins of airtime, but his presence is consistently felt throughout the movie.

I don't mind a Star Wars movie where there are no Jedi, force mind tricks or whatever, it might actually be a breath of fresh air. But I just want to see him brought back in some regard.
