OK, overreaction, but... no, this one is different than the MNF one.  This one gives away a LOT of the plot, at least, the opening of it and who the characters are.

And we find out in this trailer that Rey is a "nobody" on Tatooine whose family gets wiped out by stormtroopers, then she goes on an epic intergalactic mission.  Hmmm... haven't we seen that done before? Like, in 1977?

She's a lot easier on the eyes than Luke is/was, however.

I believe there is actually an entire subreddit devoted to the theory that Jar Jar Binks is in fact a Sith Lord, which for some reason I would find totally believable - nothing that immediately offputting and annoying could NOT appear without some malevolent intent. This explanation just seems to fit better than the "random stupid character" theory.

Great trailer, but this thing came out like two or three weeks ago.

EDIT: Someone said it's a Japanese trailer, which is different than what was released in the USA. I will pass. No more trailers are needed for me. I was sold as soon as Disney said a new set of movies will be made.

I played the beta. Yes, I know that isn't anywhere near the final product, but I was not too enthused about the game. I hate how you cannot go prone and that you don't have any kind of sidearm. That may be something they changed for the full game, but those are two things that stuck out big time. I also don't like how (again, this is something that might have been changed for the full release) the vehicles and heroes are timed. They should be worn down by gun fire/explosives only.

I am just hoping it is 3rd best of the 7.  Besting Empire Strikes Back would be a cherry on top.  If it's 3rd overall I'll be extremely happy.

And as a non Trekkie I enjoyed JJ's two Star Treks a lot so I have high hopes.  I am sure the faithful Star Trek peeps have diff views on him.

I am a Trekkie, too, and love JJ's ST movies. He turned them into sci-fi action movies. Lots of Trekkies say there isn't enough exploration in those movies, which is what ST is traditionally about, but it's almost impossible to have exploration as the main focus in a two or two-and-a-half hour movie. Even most of the non-JJ movies don't focus on exploration. If you want exploration, fine - go watch the TV series. They're great. I like the exploration factor, too, but it doesn't work with movies.

I loved the last trailer but the music just seemed off.  I know John didn't score that one and you could tell.

The new footage looked awesome!  How fucking MadMax did those Tie Fighters look coming across the desert??!!

I love Twitch. I don't use it when playing, but enjoy watching live broadcasts. It gives one a chance to see a game in action before buying.

Can someone please point me to a resource that will give me enough backstory to watch the new movie and know WTF is going on, but not so much information that I'll want to start having LAN parties in my basement?

While I think Episode 3 is pretty good overall, I think the story had potential to make it one of the best movies ever.  I think the choice to not show Anakin directly harm a good person is a huge mistake that removes most of the gravity of his transformation.  They should have showed him killing that child.  Or if they didn't want to push the envelope that much, at least have him fight and kill Mace Windu 1-on-1.  So much about that didn't make sense.

I also can't stand Hayden Christensen or his acting.  He makes the process of an incredible hero turning into one of the most fearsome and iconic villians of all time get reduced to a child being afraid of one of his toys being taken away.

I recoil/laugh at the introduction of Darth Vader in his suit every time.  That should have been an incredible moment.  It got ruined by George Lucas.

I thought you were actually asking for backstory on all of Star Wars without WATCHING them, which would be rather ridiculous. :)

Yeah, I'm sure stuff from the prequels will be referenced, but I don't think anything that happened in the prequels was so earthshattering that you will be lost if you didn't see them.  It was all rather obvious.  There weren't really many surprise reveals.  You might want to read a quick Wikipedia or some other plot synopsis just to be up to speed, but IMO the only reallly surprising thing revealed in the prequels was that the Stormtroopers seemed to be clones of Boba-Fett's dad.  And no one is really sure if that even stayed true into Ep 4.  You got to see a lot of Obi-Wan's development, but nothing that wasn't hinted at in Ep 4-6 IMO.

You have a couple options:

1) If you have, say 20 hours to kill, watch the movies in this order: IV, V, I (optional), II, III, VI. It has been called many things on Internet boards, but I like to call it "The Godfather" mash-up. You get all the back story in a context of emotional up and downs that preserves the twists and reveals of the stories.

2) If you prefer the visual methodolgy, but don't have 20 hours, find "Star Wars Droid Tales" on either the Disney XD app or some streaming service. 6 episodes, 30 min each. The last episode aired this week. It's basically Lego Movie-like animation of the entire Star Wars movie canon (including post-movie release material that is now considered canon like The Clone Wars & Star Wars Rebels) in 30 minute chunks that give you the recaps of the major plots of the movies and characters involved in humerous segments. Good if you're a parent who has to bring up to speed some youngsters on the entire Star Wars universe and don't have the aforementioned 20 hours + to spend in front of the TV, but want them ready to understand the new movie in front of you.

3) If you're a more reading type, and you're already familiar with the general Ep 1-6 movies, read the new books "Aftermath", "Lost Stars", the 4-issue comic book series "Star Wars Shattered Empire", and find a wookiepedia entry on "The Battle of Jakku". That will get you up to speed with who a lot of the new characters are and set the stage for The Force Awakens text crawl on Dec 18. Basically fills in the gap between post-Return of the Jedi and the new movie coming up. Ignore all the "Star Wars Expanded Universe" stuff written from the mid 90's up until now. That, for the most part, has been deemed as non-canon "Legends" material which the new movies will not be subject to. If you hear people complaining in the theater why there's no "Mara Jade" or "Thrawn" in the new movie, it's because those were popular characters from the Expanded Universe novels that Disney has decided to excise from the "New Canon" in order to make new movies and TV shows / books / comics under their purview fit together consistency wise. The people complaining likely spent hundreds of dollars and hours in previous years reading and following all the Expanded Universe storylines, only to have the House of Mouse tell them its means NOTHING. Kind of like Michigan fans who spent hundreds of hours learning intracacies of spread offense philosophies to then learn that Brady Hoke was hired.

Hope this helps. Can't wait for 18 Dec!

I love how Disney is handling the release, and not totally bombarding you with trailers, but giving the audience just enough to be excited. When they were pushing Aladdin and the Lion King you didn't even have to go see them, they aired something like half of the movie content in the ubiquitous previews.
