That is a great trailer....
The special effects are so good I can't even tell they're special.

That must have been the obligatory snow scene shot on Hoth.

Makes me wonder, what if Bob Ross was in the Michigan football film room on Sunday and the subject of "mistakes" came up?
"Goddammit Bob!!!"

I read somewhere that they used a lot of practical effects in the movie. CGI is not yet good enough to make things look completely authentic. Practical effects give a sense of weight and realism. They are making a bit of a comeback, which is a good thing.

What's Star Wars? Is it like Dancing with the Stars? I LOVE that show.
November 6th, 2015 at 10:20 AM ^
Little known fact...George Lucas originally intended to do Star Wars with Chimps and Koala bears ala Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp.

Same here. I have a feeling this one will trump all six previous movies. I love what JJ did with Star Trek and most of his other work. The guy is a phenomenal director.
November 6th, 2015 at 10:32 AM ^
for complimenting JJ. The most recent Star Trek movies are an abomination. Although, I blame the writers more than JJ.

Last good one was with the Next Gen cast fighting the Borg. So, 20 years ago?
Not a fan of dicking around with the timeline and JJ has a penchant for lensflare that I can't stand.
November 6th, 2015 at 11:21 AM ^
I like the lens flare.
First Contact is the best of the TNG movies, but JJ's ST movies are awesome.

I actually went to the first JJ Trek movie at the theater, and the audience was way younger and less nerdy than I had ever seen at a Trek movie before.
I think as stand alone films they're fine, but they're not Star Trek.
/also pissed about how they fucked up the ending in Wrath of Khan, which they never should have remade because the original was perfect in every way.
November 6th, 2015 at 12:29 PM ^
They didn't fuck up anything with Into Darkness.
And yeah, they're not your traditional Star Trek, which is why they're so good. I'm not taking anything away from other older movies (OS and TNG), as they're great, but JJ successfully resurrected a dying franchise. He made them into sci-fi action movies, which is perfectly fine with me. The case is excellent and they play their parts very well compared to the original actors.

The first time I heard complaints about the lensflare issue, I was walking by a table full of grown men playing Magic the Gathering or some other D&D type game. Now I notice it when I watch the new ST movies... It is kind of annoying, but in no way ruins the movies, for me. I think JJ did an awesome job of reviving that franchise (my wife actually likes them) and look forward to any future Trek movies he might be involved in.
And to stay on topic, I'm really looking forward to the new Star Wars movies! I'm afraid my 7yr old will break me financially with his desire to scoop up anything that has 'Lego' or 'Star Wars' attached to it, but that's the price I pay for getting him into it in the first place.

Negged for dissing JJ. The most recent Star Trek movies are excellent. Although, I blame incompetent people watching them.

LOL, that's a great meme.

For some reason I expected Chewbacca to look older or at least be greyer...

November 6th, 2015 at 12:04 PM ^
Apparently Wookies live much longer than humans, and Chewbacca was not very old to begin with in the original movies. So even 30 years later he's not that old (for a Wookie).
AKA you can make up whatever crap you want to when you are doing a science fiction movie.

Yes earlier trailers show him in the swamp (where Yoda chilled?) and his robot hand on top of r2d2. He had on a cloak like Obi Wan so you don't see his face.
November 6th, 2015 at 11:22 AM ^
We know that is him, but it was never confirmed.

This trailer was released on 10/19 on MNF though. Believe this was already posted too.
