Hoke was top notch at this aspect of his job.
OT - New Mexico hires former ND coach Bob Davie
Brian Urlacher wasn't bad either. They produce several average players a year and a great one every few years. New Mexico and West Texas are damn near the same so if he can keep players at home and grab a few from Texas and a few from Arizona he should be able to make them an average Mid Major.
and he's a good and decent man. He'll do well in NM.
connections, he'll be able to recruit Texas pretty well, since there are like what, 3 d1 kids a year in New Mexico.
I really do. I'm just afraid of what will happen when he names Holtz as his OC.
Today, we work on the path! Tomorrow, the ruth!
Wellth Ith calledth Bobth todayth andth thaid "Heckth ofth a jobth, coachth"
I live in the Albuquerque area and think Davie is a decent hire. His ties to the state of Texas, where there are so many 3 and 4 star types, should really help with recruiting.
Like somone else mentioned, New Mexico produces a handful of 3 or 4 stars each year. Last year, a top 100 player nationally from the state committed to Notre Dame. Quickly looking at the 2012 class in NM, there's a 3 star OL that has SEC offers (interestingly, he's from Switzlerland and would be the first Swiss person to play D-1 football).
Nothing but upside in this hire (considering the state of the program though, any coach would offer optimism).
